Pretty good casting, I think. I can sort of imagine Shazaam as a film targeted at teens/young-adults ala Sky High.

Ares_God_of_War

I actually like this casting choice personally

Considering the age of Billy, this could work.  And adult fans would still go to see it.

And I think the Rock would do fine as Black Adam.

Me, too. I can even see Brandon Molale as the Big Red Cheese, if that's how things turn out.

BTW, an interesting pic: http://www.imdb.com/gallery/granitz/6157/Events/6157/BrandonMo_Jesse_13757023_600.jpg

Silver Shocker

I could see Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson as Black Adam, he probably has the build and look for it, but I don't think he's the greatest actor.  We'll see I guess.

Sigh. I did a picture last year of Marvel and Adam, knowing very little about the bad guy. I worked from two concept images that showed him being skinny. Near the end of working on the picture, my friend looked at it and was just completely puzzled at how I'd drawn him.

"Why's he so scrawny?"
"Isn't he supposed to be?"
"No, man. He's huge. He's like... he looks like the Rock."

Sigh.

THIS THREAD BRINGS BACK BAD MEMORIES.

NomadX

Do you smell what Black Adam is cooking?

That Brandon guy does have a good look. But, the Big Red Cheese should go to Patrick Warburton. He's big and looks the part better, I think.

TheMarvell

I've never even heard of these comic book characters...>_>

And man, can he do cheese!  (Although personally I think he looks better in blue vinyl.  With little antennae.)

captainspud

Patrick Warburton can't do "serious", though.

detourne_me

i'm stoked. i think the rock would be a great black adam.  he was a heel when i was into wrestling, so i think it would fit him well.
who cares about seriousness though. this is the story of a boy trhat says a magic word and transforms into the worlds mightiest mortal.
patrick warburton would be plain awesome,  but i think he mioght be a bit too old.  i'd like to see someone a bit younger than the rock be the big red cheese.

get robert rodriguez to direct this, with some script help from jeff smith,  and man that would be an awesome movie.

captainspud

Don't confuse "serious" with "realistic". Patrick Warburton can do a realistic character (See: Big Trouble) but he has never played a straight character. He's always doing the "big dopey guy" routine. Always playing for laughs.

I just can't buy him as heroic.

Talavar

Patrick Warburton would make an awesome Captain Marvel!  He's even got the eye-squint thing down.  How did I never picture that myself?

murs47

Oh heck yeah! I can see it now....

Black Adam: "What's that wizard's name?"

Cpt. Marvel: "Sha---"

Black Adam: "--IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT HIS NAME IS!"

:D

catwhowalksbyhimself

Captain Marvel couldn't say that name anyway. . .

He has the the look.  His acting is not bad.  He's not oscar winning acting, but he a decent actor.  I like his role in be cool and he was cool in the scropion king movie.

looks the part? the guy has waspy white guy looks!? i donno how you could look at both and say that. he does not have darker looks at all. molale is far better suited to the role looks wise.

 I'm having trouble parsing that sentence. Are you saying that Warburton is too white or not white enough? Because Captain Marvel (aka "Captain Whitebread") is about as waspy as superheroes get. Cap was originally modelled after Fred MacMurray, for whatever that's worth.

thanoson

Yeah, I'm not sure I'm following you IPS. Did notice that your spelling was a little bit off. Which is weird for you as it's always incredibly correct. Perhaps you've been hittin the bottle? :D No, I think Alba and her hair color was very painful to my eyes. She is nothing special to me, however my friends think she's the knees bees. Whatever that means.

both of these characters are supposed to have darker complexions (naturally black hair, thick heavier eyebrows - more rugged and less pretty) typically associated with a more south-western european ethnicity.

"Rugged"? We are talking about Captain Marvel, right?

Quotethe white guy you guys are talking about looks typically British and waspy and doesn't resemble the art work for the character at all.

Captain Marvel: Big beefy guy with squinty eyes and dark hair. Patrick Warburton: Big beefy guy with squinty eyes and dark hair. Plus he's got a knack for comedy, and any proper Captain Marvel movie ought to be at least a little tongue-in-cheek. Not to say that Molale couldn't do it too... I'm not familiar with him at all.

Quotethe same is true with the guy you are talking about. aside from him being large you can dye his hair black but he's never going to look dark featured enough (naturally) to look good in that role.

Are you sure you're not confusing Warburton with someone else? He's not even remotely fair-haired.

Courtnall6

The Rock is a great choice for Black Adam.

I just hope they call him Black Adam and not get all panicy PC and call him "Teth Adam" or something...

stumpy

I like Patrick Warburton. He adds a very dry, comedic presence to all the roles I've seen him in. I don't know if he looks the role of Captain Marvel or not or if the comics ever imputed him with any distinctive ethnic look, besides the straight black hair and thick eyebrows, which aren't exactly rare in lots of places. He's a little older than I think of Cap, too, but makeup, lighting, blah, blah, whatever.

My issue would be that CM always seems like the straight man in whatever humor surrounds him (e.g., he is the sincere type who isn't necessarily in on the gag), whereas Warburton has that deadpan delivery and that little smirk that gives the impression that he knows the score. I guess I am just saying that Warburton usually is funny in whatever scene he is in (either by acknowledging the absurdity of the situation, as per Rules of Engagement, or by steadfastly refusing to acknowledge it, a la David Putty) while Cap is more just innocently there while funny stuff happens around him. Just my impression, of course.

Anyway, as much as I like Warburton, I would be happy with someone like Molale, even if mostly just because he looks the part well enough for me and I don't really know him well enough to have his other screen experience color the CM role.

Protomorph

I'm fine with it.

I even like the look of Brandon...even though I have no idea who he is.
