At first she spun counter clock-wise, but with a little concentration I got her to spin clock-wise. Now I can get her to change pretty much at will. A neat experiment!

I've been staring at it for 20 mins, and i cant see how anyone could possibly see that as counter clockwise. her outstretched leg, if view like a clock hand, clearly (to me) moves around from 12 oclock (behind the figure) around to the (our) right as we view the image on our screen, then closer to us at 6 oclock, then back around to 12.
am i doing it right?
is there a right?

Thor

The Odinson doth see the twain.

At yon same moment.

BEHOLD THE POWER OF THOR!

Clockwise.

Car-- it's orthographic, there's no front or back indicated, not even slightly. It took me almost five minutes of staring and blurring, but I got it to change direction. It works just as well in each direction... in fact, once you "decide" which way it's moving, it's difficult to unstick it. Your brain makes a decision about which leg is raised, and it's hard to convince it otherwise.

Adamence

It's totally clockwise.  Just save the gif and open it in your favourite image editor to see which way they've got it animated.

You're missing the point. There's no actual indication in the image of which side's her front and which side's her back- viewing it one way, she's going clockwise, and the otehr way, counterclockwise. Neither is correct or incorrect, and the animation is actually exactly the same both ways.

I see it clockwise, and was unable to see it counterclockwise until I covered all the image except for the head, which suddenly began spinning counterclockwise to me, as did her whole body when i removed my hand. I then couldn't get it to go back to clockwise until I covered her top half and just looked at her legs- suddenly, she was clockwise again.

stumpy

Yeah. It looked counterclockwise to me at first, but I can get it to go either way. It's pretty cool.

That actually helped, i was staring at the reflection of her foot on the ground and for about three seconds it was spinning counter-clockwise. My brain quickly reasserted the clockwise motion but i see what you mean now.
its kinda cool  ^_^ With a bit of effort i can see it moving counter clockwise, but then its hard to get it to go back the other direction.
and while i don't apply the sweeping pop culture quiz mentality of defining your character through a visual test, I will attest that overall the 'right side' traits apply to me more than the left side.

Lunarman

Lol, we were showns this is maths class, very wierd. Half of the class couldn't get it to move at all, and then we all ended up shouting which way she was going at different times. :)

No way man, its totally counter clockwise, as hard as I try and cant see clockwise....I need to use my brain more......

And today we learn what a joke is?

Keep talking.  I've learned much about our community from this thread.  Pretend I am not here, watching the dancer move in a clockwise direction...

Actually, I've found that, by watching the reflection of her foot and calf, I can see her moving counterclockwise as well; however, as soon as I look at the rest of her silhouette, she begins moving clockwise again.

Tomato

Am I the only one who's seeing her doing figure 8's?

Outcast

 Turn counter clockwise....turn counter clockwise....

 Only my head is turning counter clockwise....

:banghead:  can't do it...

why force it?  :P I'm just getting a headache....

Volsung

Clockwise^^
I understand how it works but if I continue to focus in front of that picture i'm gonna... miss my train!

Volsung

I found the trick^^ simply scroll down the image so only the feets are visible, it's much more easier to change de direction.

But how can we when she is rotating counter clockwise!!

I finally seen her move clockwise when I focused off the screen and keeping her in the corner of my eye and pictured her going clockwise, but then if I look away from her again and then back at ther she is back counter clockwise. .......I guess I'm a lefty!

El Condor

Um, I just think she's kinda hot......

She has sticky-outy nipples. She is full of win.

BlueBard

Initially, it was totally clockwise.  Then I did as other posters have suggested and looked at only part of the image, and got it to shift.  Had trouble shifting back to perceiving it as clockwise.

Then I found that blinking helped to 'change the channel', as does looking away briefly.  Blinking one eye in semi-rapid succession helped to control which way she appeared to be turning.  In fact, I managed to change the channel by keeping one eye closed and just blinking with one.  That worked with both eyes.  Every single time I go away and come back, the image 'resets' so that I am perceiving clockwise rotation.

I think the kicker is not so much how you perceive the rotation... it's how you perceive her spacial orientation that makes a bigger difference.  If the movement of the image was only in two dimensions, the effect would be different.  Since at least some of us can train their brains to perceive it one way or the other, I really think it has very little to do with whether you are a right-brain or left-brain thinker.  I think it has more to do with the way your brain is wired to process spacial orientation and perspective.  I would assert that is far more critical than brain-hemisphere dominance.  If that were the case, I doubt any of us would be able to make the perspective shift at all.  Or maybe only the 'right-brain' folks.

I don't entirely subscribe to the notion that brain-hemisphere dominance is determinative of your ability and personality, any more than I do which sign of the zodiac you were born under.  I don't deny that it (brain-dominance) may be a factor, but I wouldn't give it quite as much weight as some (the 'left-brain' people?) do.  Going by the listed traits on that website, I am both right and left brained.

I believe the correct term for me is 'scatter-brained'.

Pyroclasm

See her move both ways, and can switch it at will.  Guess that corresponds with the test I took which indicated I use both sides almost equally.  heh.  sonftw.

wickerman

this is looking more like a crock the more I look at it.  The figure changes which leg she is holding up th emore I look at it and when I substitute the refresh button for concentration she magically changes direction 8 of 10 times
