There's no sense in that statement Komm.

As a veteran of the armed forces, I take offense at that remark myself.

As a veteran of a thousand conflicts, the Odinson taketh offense on behalf of those who doth not read thine forums and canst not become offended themselves.

Forsooth.

Uncle Yuan

While I'm inclined to agree, I could point out that he could have just been making a generic comment about the state of things in the Middle East.

On topic: I enjoy CoX still, but I maust say my enjoyment these days is waxing and waning.  Daily play sessions happen less than they once did.  I would totally consider a game that had a siginificant number of the fine folks from FR (it was the activity in these threads that prompted me to buy CoH in the first place).

On a practical level, I'm not sure how likely it would be for me to pick up a new MMPORG after this, though.  The time I have to devote to CoX is due to my attending school away from my wife and son.  And I will be graduating next May.  To say nothing of starting residency shortly thereafter.

I made a stupid remark out of anger, and for that I apologize.  I'll be staying away from this thread now.

Why yes, I am.  We'll just admit you now and get you stabilized over night.  We're going to give you some fluids, run some tests and the surgeons will decide in the morning if they're going to operate . . .

Huh? Uh, no.  Sorry.  No glowing green auras.  This is real life.  Now if we can just get a quick urine sample . . .

I might be interested in trying out Tabula Rasa, or possibly even LotRO.

Let me know if you get into LOTRO (if you want, of course). There's still five servers Heart's Fire and I don't have characters on yet. :)

If we think we can swing lifetime subs to LOTRO, we may restart CoH after Christmas. Nothing set in stone yet, though.

Thing is, I can do all that stuff in First Life. Plus the graphics are way nicer.

wouldnt that require you like... leaving your room... and possibly being "nice" to some people?

Dude, that was the weakest attempt at a snappy comeback I've heard in a long, long time.

Let's see, where to start...

1) It's a long-standing rule of nerd arguments that no nerd is ever allowed to play the "get a life" card in an argument, because we're ALL just varying degress of the same brand of pathetic. Never mind the fact that in many cases, it's flat-out baseless (since the growth of nerd culture now means that a huge chunk of nerds are just normal people. Basement trolls don't have nearly the iron grip on the demographic they used to.) Ignoring this rule either means you're a colossal hypocrite, or in an extreme state of self-delusion.
2) Actually: no. If you'd read the statement I was responding to-- not a single item on that list requires me to be nice to people. Not a one. But don't silly things like "making sense" get in the way of a sound byte.
3) I like that you didn't try to respond to the Big Post. That's okay, I wouldn't have either.

I take Kom's bowing out and your pathetic "laying on your back, legs desperately flailing" jab to mean that you're both giving up. A wise choice.

So this all has a happy ending. I may not have orchestrated a migration, but I *did* smite the wicked, finally and utterly.

*bows*

*catches bouquets*

UnfluffyBunny

1) so far the only member to pull that was Valandar with his "getafirstlife" link

2) probably a little to subtle, nevermind, tho I would like to point out a very easy way to do one of the things on kommando's list "improving yourself" may be to not fly off the handle with the "i'm never wrong" routine every time cos it does get pretty damn annoying, and yes, this may include, being nice to people, or if thats too hard, how about just not being an asshat to everyone?

3)the big post about you saying secondlife isnt a "game"
when did I say it was? i'm sorry why would I reply to something like that? are you really so eager to argue with someone that you'll purposely derail yourself to point to a non-subject which has absolutely nothing to do with my comment atall?

koms "bowing out" had nothing to do with you if you take the time to pay attention to the world outside yourself, and the biggest case of hypocrisy I see here is you calling me pathetic.

and I dont even know why I bother writing this, because more than likely you'll spend another 2 minutes perring out of your own colon to half arse read what i've said, disregard and flail off into trying to stir up yet another arguement because, lets face it, what else do you actually do? I cant even remember the last post you made that wasnt self obsessed, complaining about something, or telling someone they were wrong.

end of the day, you're a voice, a single voice, in a world of millions, and you're no-one special, and I cant be bothered to deal with you, so yes go fill that little empty portion of yourself with the satisfaction that i'll no longer be acknowledging you, go you, you made someone ignore you, put a notch on your bedpost 1 step closer to your life goal. be damn proud of yourself in your hollow victory cos frankly, I couldnt care less.

I dunno about that. We're definitely getting SOMETHING done here. :P

RTTingle

Allow me to try to get it back on track...

... might I suggest Sword of the New World?

Not a bad game.  Cool premise.  Take the coolness of a very French Revolution like old world and have them come over to the New World and try to rid it of monsters in a fantasy setting with swords, muskets & magic.

+ Beautiful world.

- Avatar customization is very, very limited, but you can play 3 characters at once!

+ Awesome music.

- Grind.

+ Free to download and play!!!

- Which means you need to pay for really cool items.

Any matters... if you're interested, swordofthenewworld.com.

I'd be hip to something Steampunky or Sci Fi.

Uncle Yuan

Man, wouldn't Foglio's "Girl Genius" just make a freaking awesome game world for an MMORPG!!!

Well, Tabula Rasa would fit the Sci-Fi bit. It's guns AND magic.

I've never seen a proper steampunk game, nevermind an MMO. Arcanum and the Thief games had elements of it, but nothing with the right atmosphere.

GhostMachine

Personally, I'd love a Shadowrun MMO. Especially if I could re-create my main character (well, one of my two mains, but the other would be a bit difficult to do) from the pen and paper game, the Surgeon.

We have yet to see how well it's going to translate into a GURPS pen and paper game which IS on the table as opposed to an MMORPG which is not.

I like the "Girl Genius" comics but I don't think it's well suited for an MMO.  It wouldn't be much fun if you couldn't play a Spark, and you can't do that without being able to build weird science gadgetry like clanks, rayguns, constructs, and high-efficiency coffee makers.  And THAT would be fairly difficult to pull off and make fun.

As long as we're tossing out ideas that will never ever be translated into an MMORPG, I think Anne McCaffery's Pern novels would be an excellent backdrop for an MMORPG.  Heck, who wouldn't want to be a Dragonrider?

Back on subject, I don't know of any current game besides CoX that would appeal to everyone here... certainly none that fit the comics genre theme FR was founded on.

I, too, am looking forward to the GG source book, although I'm a bit disappointed that it's coming out for GURPS - meaning you'll need at least two other expensive books to be able to play well.  I might buy it just as a resource and use it to back up a FATE campiegn.  I disagree that it wouldn't make a great MMorpg, though.  First, Sparks are relatively common (even if not all first order like Agatha).  Second, there are numerous other possible playable classes - Jaegerkin, Ghost Maidens, contructs of various kinds (Like Punch and Judy), even some of the more complex and autonomous clanks.  (Tell me that playing a Jaeger wouldn't be an absolute hoot!)  I'm sure developers could even come up with a couple of new ones that would fit well in the universe.  Aside from that, the whole setting is just chock full of cool content to turn into encounters and plot lines.

Yeah, so going to have to buy the sourcebook . . .

Well, if we all really need to , we can all just play with ourselves.

Dweomer Knight

I played some Tabula Rasa at GenCon.  I didn't particularly care for it but that doesn't mean it's a bad game by any stretch.  I didn't get to play it enough to make that kind of assessment and everyone has different tastes and expectations anyway.

As I work full time and take classes I've never had daily play sessions unfortunately.  However, since I don't play every day (and sometimes not even every week), I'm far from bored.  I've been playing over 3 years and I still have no one near 50 on any server.  Right now I have accounts for CoX and LotR.  With limited playtime the only reason I signed up for LotR was 1) it's Lord of the Rings and 2) I selected the lifetime account option and then immediately paid it off.  So though I need to play for 20 months to technically break even, it feels like I'm playing for free.

Lionheart - Do you have a Group on Arkenstone?  I have a Hobbit Hunter that I rolled recently that I'm enjoying alot who would like to join if you do.  I admit that my play time is limited though.

GenCon? You wouldn't have stopped by Author's Avenue in the vendor hall, would you? If so, we might have actually met. I was helping my brother out as his booth (Jonathan Rudder, author of Sharamitaro, The Road to Elekar, and A Howl on the Wind).

As far as Arkenstone goes, we've got characters there -- as long as you don't mind running with an eight year old too. My wife and I both made characters to run with our daughter on occasion on that server.  :) They're all fairly low level right now (I think our highest level team is 11).

I have "solo" characters ranging from 13 - 23 on Silverlode, too.

I don't remember that name specifically but I would have definitely seen him.  I'm usually in the Vendor's Hall for the entire time when it's open; there's just so much to see and do there.  And I always peruse the Artist and Author areas (I peruse every area; I'm a gaming generalist).  I've noted his name, if he's going to be there next year I'll make it a point to stop by.

Not at all; it's great that you get to play with your family.  As a lowly Hobbit I'm running around the Shire and will be for some time yet.  Do you have a fellowship/group name?  Who should I look for?  Any particular time you're usually on?

Yah, I couldt play az a Jaegar.  It vould be lotz uv fun.  But you izn't seeing my point... Ze point iz, you'd haf to haf un invenshun-makink mechanizm zat gave lotz uv options for creativity.  Ozzerwize, beink a Spark vouldn't be much fun.

If I was a spark, I'd want to build something, doggone it!
