Of all the video games to make into a movie...

...I'm baffled about this one. I mean, there are a lot of games that were "plot thin" that got turned into features, but this one kinda takes the cake.

uhhhhhhh.......

What's next, Pong: The Movie?  <_<

Mr. Hamrick

I have to agree, what the heck? Would it be a movie about characters running the lives of simulated people, or just a movie with simulated people, like every movie? It just seems like whatever the success of The SIMS is, it's pretty tightly tied to the interactivity with the player. Translating that to a passive medium is kind of missing the point, isn't it?

BTW,...

...not exactly encouraging.

Besides, why do this when the eight hundred pound gorilla of video games, Q*bert, is sitting there untouched?  :P

PS: Which reminds me, the other day I caught part of a talk radio show (I forget the topic) where the host used the phrase, "How can they ignore that? It's the four hundred pound elephant in the room!" Of course, I am sitting there thinking, "That's a pretty small elephant, chief." "laugh"

Reepicheep

So its basically a semi sci-fi soap opera but the viewers don't know what anyones saying?

Uggh!  One of the most poorly done book to movie conversions ever.  Although from what I hear, The Seeker may beat it.

So no, not encouraging.  Really though, it's just a game about people doing ordinary things.  There are thousands of movies that already fit that description.

Outcast

Interesting. I wonder what the story and plot could be.

This film could have massive potential for performing a metacritique of the film and video game media and cultures, not to mention an exploration of questions of agency and teleology, but I very much doubt it will realise any of that potential.  To echo Reep, 'twill be, in all likelihood, a soap opera (with strictly integrated adverts).

heh i still remember to this day, what happeneded when i banished everything sim related from my life.
i was sitting there playing it in my room for a really long time. my roommate came to my door and asked "what are you doing?"
I noticed... I was watching myself play computer games.  that is, the character i made to look exactly like myself was playing computer games, and i was sitting there watcvhing him... kiind of like one of those mirror facing a mirror things. and my roomie just pulled me back into reality.  instantly after i noticed what was happening, i had exited the program and gone to add/remove programs and deleted the sims (2 i think it was)

whew,  if i'm going to use computer games as escapism, they have to do something i can't do in real life.  thats why i play freedom force.  and not the sims or leisure suit larry.

Actually, I'd say Leisure Suit Larry pretty solidly represents something you can't, or at least, shouldn't do in real life. :P

Sword

And by extension, Space Quest would also be bad for movies.
