Of course... you know how the hype is..  give the game sites out there the really good stuff.

Dual blades are here...

QuoteIssue #11 for City of Heroes/City of Villains looks to be a very promising and exciting update for players. Not only can players expect new story lines and stuff to do at level 50, but there are also two new power sets being introduced for the Melee Archtypes. Willpower will be more of a defensive power set, while Dual Blades - the second - will be offensive in nature.

Dual Blades will allow the Brute, Scrapper, Stalker and Tanker Archtypes to wield pared weapons to devastating effect! The Cryptic team has been hard at work for some time on Issue #11, and with its beta test approaching they've offered the Curse community a look at the Dual Blades power set.

You've heard all about the power set on the City of Heroes forums, but now Cryptic has given us a chance to show off the Dual Blades power set in action, with these four exclusive screen shots!

Willpower is here...

QuoteThanks to PlayNc and Cryptic Studios, we are able to present these excellent screenshots of Willpower.

Willpower is one of two new power sets that will be included in the coming Issue 11 expansion to City of Heroes and City of Villains. The other power set is an offensive set called Dual Blades. Available to Tankers, Scrappers, Brutes and Stalkers, the Willpower set offers a strong mix of abilities to ignore pain and press on through insurmountable odds!

Back Alley Brawler sez...
QuoteHey guys, a couple of quick caveats to these screenshots.

1) These are mainly grabs from the activation or pulses of the the various toggle/click effects. The first screenshot is of the Tier 9 power. The 2nd is an activation effect from one of the toggles, and the 3rd is a random pulse that happens when one of the toggles are on. Overall, these really represent the MAOF (maximum avatar obscuring factor) you'll see from all of the Willpower FX. That's marketing for you.

2) There's really only one common visual effect for all of the toggle powers, and it's fairly subtle. There are different activation effects and some random pulse type effects here and there, but for the majority of the time you're running around with any of your toggles on you've got one persistent effect.

4) We'd already pretty much decided that what we have now is still too much. We still want this to be a defense set that is very minimally FX graphic intensive, but trying to find a delicate balance between having nothing at all and having functional indicators of what powers are active is tricky.

This is basically the first pass on these FX. We've still got closed beta and then open beta coming up. Plenty of time for everyone to get a good look at this set and its FX in game and make comments about it. Plenty of time for us to make multiple iterations and try to find a happy medium that will make everyone happy.

Let the love/hate begin.

No thanks.

I spent all my my childhood doing the pen & paper D&D thing.  I've had enough of that for a lifetime.

I am however just waiting for the second that Pirates of the Burning Sea is released.

Midnight

I have an empty toon slot in case they don't suck.

I also have a copy of Counter Strike and a server that hasn't banned me, so I'm good for the forseeable future.

Dual samurai swords? Seriousme? Not even scimitars or energy blades like the Vanguard, but just katana times 2....

Lazy bastiches.

I agree, energy blades like the Vanguard is the way they should have gone.  They look cooler, they're already in the game so they could hopefully just expand on what's already there.  Those dual blades there are rather weak.

WEAK!

Nah, the blades are different.  They do have a bend to them, as ever so subtle as it is, they are different.

I'd love to see energy blades, things of the sort.  That stuff is best left for CoX2 er... MUO because we know they're not going to do that with this game.  Why?  Because they're going to save that for something that features power customization.  Thats something we will never, ever see in CoX.

Lets face it, they made the bed --- we get to lay down in it with all this lazy baked in crap excuse then been using for years.  Its way too late to do something about it now --- and they know it --- which is why we will never see it.

Think about that.  How messed up is that?  They kept pushing it off, saying it would be too time intensive... and now a few years later, its one of the few things left in the game they can actually do.  But we'll never see it because its too far along into the game to do a change like that and...

... it just wouldn't matter.

Think about that.  Day late, dollar short.  They know now, all that work... its just not worth it at this point.

Shame too.  A lot of the problems that people had with powers and such... would have been solved easily with a system of basic powers, that allowed customization.

Honestly, the best thing they can do in regards to things like the Vanguard energy weapons, etc... is to allow them as temporary powers you can earn or craft with inventions.

WEAK!

Very.

So... will Cryptic try to do the right thing and improve the game with a new box expansion or offer us CoX2?

Hell no.

Thats what they're going to do with MUO.

43 Hunter on Alleria. Been playing about a month.

Had a 70 druid on Kil'Jaeden and a slew of alts around 40 that I never played.

It stays fun for a while, couple years for some months for others, 60+ is especially nice. My druid looks like a ninja wielding an octopus on a stick... good thing I spend most of my time as a bear or a cat.

I imagine you are enjoying yourself somewhat... I can't imagine you'd consider buying another game card if you weren't.
