How do you back up your games?

My FF folder is 9.81 GB and my FFV3R is 3.92 GB. My PC only has a CD burner which can burn CDs up to 702 MB. That doesn't seem to really be an option.  So how does anyone else back in their stuff as to still have it in case of a crash?

Well, I have 2 computers networked togeather and I have a copy of the games on each computer, but that really isnt practical, but before I had the 2 comps I burned my game on CDs and since the CDs only will take so much KBs I only burned the important stuff on them like my custom characters and other custom content like my fx and voices and such, I think I have everything on 4 CDs somewhere.

I have a couple USB external hard drives that I use for regular backups. They aren't as cheap as CDs, but the backups are faster and you can probably find one that will hold over 100 GB for under US$100 and under fifty cents per gig for the larger drives. My 500 GB MyBook is about US$160.

Zip discs.  Yeah, I know, outdated, but, being a techie, I was able to score about 4.5 Gb worth of them from work for absolutely nothing since they weren't being used anymore.

After much procrastination I finally got a usb drive. Now my question is do I leave the usb connected all of the time or do I store it someplace else and only hook it up when I want to do another backup?

It all depends on what you want to use the external drive for.  If it's strictly for back-ups, and you have no intention to ever use it for regular access, leaving it disconnected would be the most logical.  If you're *really* worried about physical corruption/destruction of your original material (fire, flood, etc), storing the HD in a completely different location/building would be the best bet, although a tad extreme.

However, if you will tend to move things to & from it on even a semi-frequent basis, leaving it connected, but turned off, when not in use would make more sense.  I've stored all of my zip files only, both for back up, as well as freeing up some space on my HD, but from time to time I might need to get to one of the zips, to check out documentation, or to send it off to someone.  Having to go & get it out of storage & hook all the cables back up again would just be a pain, so I leave it connected, but only turn it on when I need something from it (it's also got all of my mp3's now.....that alone cleared up almost half of my laptop's HD).  And just for clarification, I use the zip discs for the main back-up, with frequently required zips (skins, meshes, voice packs) on the external HD as well, both for ease of locating, and ease of transport (one drive + cables, as opposed to one drive (relatively same size) + cables + 4 or 5 discs).

Ok thanks, I'll just have it unplugged when not making a back up then.
