So some fella', John_Roy, PM'ed States about streetfighting... and he got a response!  Supposedly he said and J_R paraphrases him...
QuoteEventually we'll get to it...it's just that the players voted and we got Dual Swords.

Artists are ultimately responsible for animation; they'd like to do brand new stuff rather than recycle old ones. Rest assured, we know how popular Street Fighting is...we'll get to it.

States responds...
QuoteYep, it was in a PM. I didn't think it'd be posted, but that's OK. I stand by it. We definitely want to do Street Fighting. Really. We want to capture the feeling of those "two fisted" vigilantes...and as one poster already noted, we want to make sure that it stands out from the other melee sets.

I think they're really going a tad bit overboard with wanting unique animations for this set.  I think people are looking for a nice mix of everything else we see and aren't asking for much new.  So to hear that they actually want something unique as a whole is interesting.

Gimmie a simple kick like the archers have, maybe another fancy one to add flare.  A simple punch and a nice combo would be the meat and gravy.  Toss in a headbutt for a dash of a spice.  Anything else added for me, would be the cherry on top.

So, it seems its now a question of when.  Any guesses?

There's only one thing I can think of that would be a problem with adding streetfighting (other them possibly using some of the martial arts animations for some of the attacks):

No way they'll add a knee or kick to the groin.

RTTingle

Oh!  Oh!  Oh!

How can I forget... a good old fashioned judo/karate chop!!!  Thats a must!

Kommando

Just give 'em the old one two!  Or jab, jab, uppercut!  More scrapper goodness!

Vulcan Nerve Pinch!

Ooh, sorry; wrong genre.

Isn't that kick the same on from the fighting pool? I could get behind a Chuck Norris roundhouse kick though. :P

Unfortunately, that's not as effective on groinless enemies. ;) Personally, I think a knee to the stomach is well within the possiblities.

Viking

Bah!  Vulcan Nerve Pinches are not what someone uses in a streetfight!  We need things like:

Lacing one's fingers together to hit someone with a double-fisted smash;

Shoulder chop;

Doing a quick somersault forward, coming out of it to nail the opponent with a punch;

Two quick jabs to the stomach followed by a right to the jaw; and

Two-legged flying kick!

The Phantom Eyebrow

Can't they just render some footage of Captain James T Kirk in action from the old TV series?  He had some moves that boy...

Okie, I'm in.  Who can we get to be our third?!?  ;)

RTTingle

A judo/karate chop would rule.

Its used by so many people and in so many genres.  Martial art heroes, secret agents and spies, and the well trained super hero.  I hope this is something they consider.  Honestly, its a great thing to add and unique!  Its in no other set.  You could even make it so its like a blade with the damage instead of just smashing.  :)

Not to mention - would be perfect for my hero, Knuckles Norris.

You want to distinguish it from Martial Arts and Super Strength somehow, with different moves but possibly incorporating some elements of both.  You also want to avoid entirely obsoleting the Fighting pool.

The purpose of the set would be a fighter who really wears down opponents and makes them vulnerable to attack (without necessarily lowering defense).

Some attacks will have a small chance to stun or knockdown (as opposed to knockback).  Other effects that could be thrown in would be -end and/or -regen to simulate wearing down an opponent.  It would be mostly smashing damage.  The drawback would be moderate to heavy end costs and/or lack of melee AoE's; it's really all about mano-y-mano.

Gotta have the bare knuckles, so let's have a the old one-two, a right cross and probably a kidney punch.  The old one-two would be pure damage and -end, the right cross would stun and -end, and the kidney punch would do lethal damage and have a chance to stun.  The kidney punch would also -spd and -regen (hard to walk, hard to recover from).

A flying kick would be cool, but animating it would be kind of messy.  So, we compromise a little and go with a leg sweep that can catch multiple foes in melee range... no real damage but a hefty chance for knockdown.  Maybe throw in a kick to the head or a backhand for knockdown and -end.

A nice block (or fancy footwork) and punch for parrying might be useful.  A headbutt would be cool, too, with knockback or stun.

For the KO, it should have a Knockout Punch that does really nice damage with hefty stun, hefty -end and some -regen.  Maybe, just maybe, a Fighting Fury attack that acts much like 'Sands of Mu' but instead of the -accuracy it does -end.

We need things like:

- A poke in the eye.

- A two fingered poke in both eyes.

-The nose grab and twist.

- The 'Nyuck, Nyuck, Nyuck" taunt....

:Direwolf "Oh, street fighting, I thought it was stooge fighting... Never mind!"

I like it!  Especially the taunt.
