Quick Version- Keanu Reeves has been signed to play Klaatu in a remaker of The Day The Earth Stood Still. Anyone else think this is a bad idea?

I think Keanu playing in anything other than Bill & Ted is a bad idea.

The man has the acting range of a doughnut.

There was talk of a possible Bill & Ted 3, but apparently his agent talked him out of it.

Personally, I'm still hoping for a Point Break 2.

There are some things that should never be remade.

That is all.

Yeah, I heard his agent told him it would "ruin his career."

I thought his acting "skills" already ruined it.

Like what, Cat?  I have to disagree...

The Day the Earth Stood Still is/was a great film, but it also was apparently adapted from a short story called "Farewell to the Master" from a Science Fiction magazine called "Astounding Science Fiction".  So technically, it is itself,  already a "remake".  Fiction is fiction, whether it be on the pages of a Shakespeare play, a Danielle Steele novel,  etc... or on the small or big screen, Like Lost In Space, Battlestar Galactica or even the original Star Trek.

Whether something can be remade well and be a success, is all up to those doing the "re-making"...But it's silly to believe that certain things should never be remade, that they might be sacred or untouchable.

If it's a bad remake, ignore it and move on...It really does nothing to sully the original.

All fiction is subject to reinterpretation, revision and re-creating.

However, I agree about Reeves...I think he's a very...Well...Limited actor.
