This story honestly might not be bigger but might be a better read than the Superman Returns story!

Welcome to Marvel where if your name has "captain" in it...you are totally hosed.

I realized what it was about when they previewed the cover on Saturday. See those arms to either side of Cap? That's Bucky and Namor. Just from seeing that one could have deduced that the story was an Invaders story.

It'll be interesting to see what Ross does now that he's back in the Marvel sandbox. To be completely honest I think the DC universe suits him better...

The Hitman

Yeah, I think DC's more his style.

While, in theory, this is a great idea for a story arc, I bet it'll be morphed into some sort of cop- out way to return Steve Rogers.

Having said that, I will probably pick it up, if only for some Golden Age Human Torch action, as well as Alex Ross' art.

Yeah, I'm a fiender for Ross' work. He's like the Norman Rockwell of comics.. DC and Marvel seem like the same thing to me anymore.

Agent

Between this and The Twelve, Marvel seems to have gotten really interested in spotlighting Golden Age characters.  I'm interested to see what Ross has planned.

I'd be A LOT more interested in this if it were free of modern Marvel continuity, but still.....since it's got a great team behind it, I'll give it a chance.

Anybody else notice that we're getting all these Golden Age revivals at roughly the same time? You've got this Invaders thing,  Marvel's The Twelve (a mini-series showcasing some pre-Marvel/Timely Comics characters), Image Comics bringing back Golden Age staples like Fantastic Comics, Speed Comics, and Crack Comics in their "The Next Issue Project", and Ross and Kreuger reviving some public-domain heroes in their upcoming "Superpowers" title.

That is exactly what I was getting at.  Marvel already returned one Captain to us using the "plucked out of time before he died" scenario; why not hit us with it again?

Well I dont know if using golden age characters has made DC a lot of money but it has given them a wealth in story telling options. Hopefully Marvel can tell some good golden age stories and work some other side projects (like the twelve) where hard nosed 40's heroes shine.

True enough. I've been hooked on JSA for about 3 years now..
