AFBL - Season 3

It's come up before, but this time I'll do my best to make it happen.

Who wants to participate in a Season 3 of AFBL (Brute Bowl was Season 2, kinda)?  This would require a COMMITMENT to your team and to other participants.  I know that sounds too job-like, and it can kinda get that way, so if that's not something you're interested in, then don't sign up.

What I'm looking for is a smallish group -- preferably 4-5 teams.  I don't want to be exclusive or elitist at all, and I think I've always been good at doing otherwise, but in this case, AFBL is not for everyone.

We are looking at going back to the rules that were created after Season 1.  Yes, there'll be tankers, scrappers and blasters.  Team positions will be based on the number of players we get.  If we have enough for 5 to a team, it'll be 2 tanks, 2 scrappers, and 1 blaster.  If we only have enough for 4, it'll be 1 tank, 2 scrappers and 1 blaster.

We will use the old team names and logos that TJ so awesomely designed.

So, if you're interested and you KNOW that you are committed to some of the best weekly PVP you'll ever come across in CoH, sign up here.  If you have questions, please PM me.

Ephemeris

I'm in!!

Go Sentinels!!

It's not like I'm doing anything else with my time.

I would be able to commit for sure if I knew what kind of schedule you have planned.

gdaybloke

Will depend on schedule for me. Hope so though. Monarchs forever!

Tortuga

From my experience, AFBL required a somewhat open schedule.  The games were usually held on Friday nights, but we took RL into consideration too, so sometimes they'd be changed (which actually led to problems, so it would be easier to simply say "___day is AFBL Night").

Game night was usually one night per week, but involved players were posting on the forum regularly to discuss strategy etc throughout the week as well.

Preparation before the season is somewhat minimal.  Team names and uniforms are already decided, it would just be a matter of roster adjustments and getting the toons to the right level (which would take 2-3 play sessions).

The Funpic site keeps assaulting me with German. Does a rule reference exist still?

Tortuga

I need to do some troubleshooting with the site.  Actually, what I should do is cojole Spud into redesigning the site to make updates easier.  I still like the aesthetic design of the site, but the coding is annoying.

captainspud

Toss me an FTP login and a laundry list of requests and I'll see what I can do.

Tortuga

Will do, Spud.

If interest warrants it, we would potentially move to 3-person teams (1 tank, 1 scrapper, 1 blaster).  A wise man said, "More teams of fewer people is more ideal than fewer teams of more people".

captainspud

I don't think anybody actually said that.

Tortuga

Ephy did.  And then I did.  Are we not wise?

TJ and TW are both in as well.

Sounds very interesting but I'd need to have some idea not just of the day but, given my geographical remove from the majority, the time you'd be playing and how long a game lasts.  I can generally find a fair bit of time for CoH-ing but a regular slot on Friday or Saturday nights would not really suit.  I could probably pull a late night at some stage during the week though.

I know you said to PM you with questions but there's likely a few more in my boat that know nothing of the mechanics of this game so I thought I'd fire a few questions to the masses to get a flavour:

- You mentioned rolling characters specifically for it and levlling them up.  What server do you do this on and what level do they have to be?

- You also mentioned that the team uniforms have been decided already.  I know that the colours can be changed on a character once they join an SG but is there a template on what items of clothing to wear (helmet, pads etc?)

- Does this game actually invlove carrying and passing a football and reaching an endzone or have you guys come up with a system or workaround to simulate that within the existing game rules?

Er, that's all I can think of.

The day has not been decided yet.  Once we get folks who are willing to commit, we'll nail down a date.

Characters need to be specifically designed for AFBL: names, costumes, power choices, etc. all have to fit within the regulations.  That's why we can't use existing toons.  We already have teams from a previous season: Brickstown Sentinels, Talos Island Minotaurs, Skyway Towers, Independence Port Authority, and Kings Row Monarchs.

AFBL operates on Infinity (we've got mega-influence stored up there).

With the arena glitches recently having been fixed, I suspect a game night (two 10 minute games played back to back) would roughly take about 45 minutes -- 15 minutes to gather; 10 minutes for game 1; 5 minutes to discuss strategy and stock up on insps; 10 minutes for game 2; 5-10 minutes for post-game trash talking etc.

Costume-wise, they look like football players, but AFBL stands for Arena Foot Brawl League.  Brawl being the keyword.  AFBL is all about tactical team PVP.  Oh yeah, and fun.

Agent

I'd love to participate but I think my schedule's going to be too constricting (I'd only be able to do it on Fridays or weekends).  Hopefully I'll be able to come watch a few matches though.

Tortuga

FuzzyOne (Krunch Kaplan from the Minotaurs) is in for another season.  NightMission (Throb Thompson from IP Authority) is also most-likely in.

That brings us to roughly 12 people (Agent and PE are still unsure).  I was hoping for 15 for 5 teams.  I would like to get planning and possibly running games by early August.

Any late comers still wanting in?

Stopman

I'm interested, but my schedule may not permit it. :(
If you start at 11pmEST on Fridays, that would be easier for me to attend the games.  :P

I'd definitely need to redesign my KRM toon, the Contessa, though....

El Condor

Okayokay - I'm interested in this!  I've just been hesitant with my dad coming to town for heart surgery; I have no idea exactly what my life will look like for the next two months, as my brother and I will be parenting him quite a bit.  However, if y'all's plans are leaning towards doing it later (10 EST or later would be best for me), and we were'nt nailed down to Fridays already, I would feel pretty comfortable saying yes.  I hate being high-maintenance, but don't want to say yes and then have to bug out later.

I'll wait and see, but put me down as a strong maybe.   :)

EC

Tortuga

Hurray for EC and hopefully Stoppy!

DireWolf

How soon and what day are looking at? I am out of the country just about all of August.... (same story as last time...)

Viking

If it'll help get your last team put together, Tort, you can count me in.  I can pretty much always make Friday evenings.

BlueBard

What about a subs roster?  Y'know... folks who can't commit on a regular basis but might be available to sub in if a regular player can't play?  If the teams are organized around the SG concept (and I can't imagine why they wouldn't be) then 'trades' from one team to another would be easy as pie.

I've got pretty much all of my slots open on Infinity, I think.  Reserving 3 slots for scrapper/blaster/tank would be no biggie.  I just can't commit to a regular play time.

Another thought occurs to me... if you do the matches in Pocket D, you could open up teams for a mix of hero and villain AT's to make things a bit more interesting.  Corruptors and Brutes would fit in there, wouldn't they?
