Yeah, so it turns out pretty much every skoped mesh and skin i have previewed in my skins thread has been lost to the electronic oblivion.
All of it.
Needless to say i'm far from happy about it. It'll take a while to redo all the characters, and time is something of a premium these days.

So while i get my hand back into skinning where i can, in between my savage RL schedule, i have discovered that character tool for FF1 is playing silly buggers.
Any mesh/skin i preview ends up looking something like this:



And thats one of the better examples. Its pretty hard to make anything like this. I figure, rather than it being a graphics card thing (which is unlikely cos its never happened before) it might be a XP vs. FF1 thing. I'm using the first version of character tool, and the download for the update available on the FF/Irrational website is broken or corrupt, it fails to download properly.
So my request is for someone, anyone, who might have the update file archived, could you send it to me or just upload it to rapidshare or something? without a working version of character tool i pretty much can't even start remaking my lost characters. its very frustrating to have all these ideas and not be able to act on them

So sorry to hear about your data hit.  Did you just loose your projects in work or all of them?  I know I have quite a few of your released skins on archive CD - so if you need them all you need do is ask.

I would also be interested in getting my hands on the updated CTool file should any kind soul have it out there.

it was just the work in progress stuff, but to be honest, that was my best stuff! thanks for the offer though.

I have the same issue with the Character Tool. But when I applied the update, I found that the CTool started crashing constantly. You can't win.  :banghead: I can send you the update if you want to try it yourself, maybe you'll have better luck.

These days, I just use the 3rd Reich CTool or Nifskope for previewing skins.

that'd be grand, mate, i would appreciate it. character tool crashed constantly for me too, it was a pain, but at least i could see the figures whole, not like they are now.
I use character tool 2 for 3R meshes, but a lot of my stuff is not converted yet (still!) and i find CT1 less of a strain to my outdated computer.

I am sorry to hear that and if there is anything I can do, let me know.  I have all the original tools ( :ff: and and  :ffvstr:) and updates saved to cd, and if necessary, can mail you 1 next week, or post to my google groups.  You let me know how I can help, and I'm there.  Work of your caliber should not be lost...permanently.

One other note.  I had the same problem with CTool1 when I first updated to SP2.  Then I uninstalled the pack, and started over.  It worked fine after that.  It's a pain to do, but it may work if you have a backup of your other work.
