Valandar, you should post those options for stuff for you to make in the polls board. You could get more voters that way.

It's something you COULD do in 3D Studio...
Yup it's called a 'render to texture'.

Great to see you back Val^^

Valandar

As I mentioned, I've started doing the schtick where you render to texture, using a hi-res version of the mesh as the base.

And since Movie Ironhide seems to be winning the poll, I started work on a hires Ironhide head:

Note that, unfortunately, the Ironhide mesh will not actually transform in game - there's just waaay too many parts sliding and moving and stuff, so he'll have a secondary "Topkick" mesh along with him.

But, like Armorhide, I -WILL- include a "base skin" for those that want to give him a new paint job... :D

Valandar

And the actual game mesh's head!

I need to clean up the "ears", but otherwise it seems pretty good to me. :D

And a warning... Ironhide will also likely end up being pretty high polygon, probably... the head, alone, is 290 polys

BatWing

this is great!
his head looks awsome!

The Pwime

oh my GOD, that's AWESOME!  :o

The hi-res Ironhide body is moving slowly. Looks like some of the detail will have to be added in Photoshop, anyway...

once again we have been blessed with your work Val....i hate to beat a dead horse because ive asked this before ....will you ever produce a Ravage and Laserbeak from gen 1 those were 2 i really enjoyed playing with in my youth and they seem to be the only ones missing from the originals but from the looks of it you have you hands full as always but i still wanted to throw the idea out there .

It's POSSIBLE... I have the Big Cat keyframes I made for the Big Cat mesh and the Predacons, but right now I really don't have a "Bird of Prey" keyframe set.

On the other hand, I -DO- currently own Ravage and Laserbeak. They come with the reissue of Soundwave ($35, currently available as a Toys R Us exclusive). :D

Valandar

Oh, and as I promised, there will be a base skin for the Ironhide mesh included, in case you decide you want to make your own skin for him:

Right now I have the upper torso and arms complete, along with his forearm guns. The hips and legs are next, then I bake in the details, and use Photoshop to add in the finer details.

XLR8er

whoa dude! thats so cool
will u make jazz or ratchet after the poll  mesh is dun?!

detourne_me

He's looking Great Val,  i'm currently playing the first ironhide level in the pc game right now :)

YokoBeast

Hey, really nice job. Are you going to make a BumbleBee mesh and skin, from the movie.

Valandar

-IF- i do, it'll have to wait until I can get ahold of the 2008 Bumblebee Deluxe toy. As for what's coming after Ironhide, here. well, I have a poll in the Polls section of the forums, and Classics Grimlock looks to be winning.

At this point in time, the actual 3D mesh for Ironhide is complete - I am rendering to texture now, then I'll start adding all the various details to the skin that I couldn't model onto the hires version (for time reasons).

YokoBeast

Cool, when you finish are you going to release it.

Valandar

Of course!

And the Render To Texture is nearly complete, by the way. Then I add details, rig it, modify the ranged animation from my default TF keyframes, and let 'er rip!

Valandar

Okay, the rendered detail and shading is done. Now to add further surface detail (to both the standard and the base skins), and rigging time!

Carravaggio

Maaaaan, that looks tidy. Hope you don't mind that i'm already thinking of other uses for this mesh in games of FF, mainly end boss robot enemies?
I really like the twin wrist guns, are you planning on having a range of animations with a different number of shots? sometimes meshes come without a single shot animation, leading to HUGE power costs.

Valandar

Oh, don't worry.

There'll be single shot, four shot burst, and sixteen shot OMG BARRAGE! animations. :D

BTW, the skinning is almost done. :D

Valandar

The skin is done! Now to rig, and to add the final 2 animations:

Valandar

And he's done!  Here's a shot from the Character Tool:

For some reason, my webspace is letting me get on via FTP, but can't connect to any actual pages or files... so it'll have to wait on that before I can upload this puppy...

Carravaggio

Cant wait Val!
...I mean I can, cos I have to, but I am looking forward to this a lot.

detourne_me

oh my stars and garters.  that mesh is incredible Val!!!

Blkcasanova247

:eek2:  :shock2: :faint ..and that's all I have to say about that!

Valandar

Aaaaaand... it's out. My webspace is behaving. :D

Arilou Laleelay

Thank you so much! Your robots rule Valandar. I love robots. And you finished it so fast, amazing.
