'Could Not Create Sound Instance'

I want to edit sounds in FFEdit, but every time I try to play back an effect from within the editor I get this error message.  I have installed FFvs3R, Alex's EZFX 6, and FFX 3.1

Can anybody give an ultimate definition of what it means?  And a way to make it stop?  I keep having to open Windows Media Player to preview sounds, and that's a pain. 

I suspect that my directory is not set properly.

While installing sounds for FFX3 i have my Primary & Secondary paths set like this

It will demo custom sounds but, will not demo ingame sounds :blink:

I get that error too, and I've heard of it from others as well.  I'm pretty sure it's a bug in the editor.  I don't think you can fix it, but it doesn't effect the sounds in the game itself.

Does it play the FFX sounds that utilize FF wav files?

nope you can't demo them this way - I thought you where wanting to demo the sound of an edited wav file :blink:

Yeah, the original one has this problem, also.  It won't play any of the built-in sounds, but will play anything placed in the Sound directory.  Not very useful, but not completely broken. <_<

the way to fix this prob in ff1, and maybe ffvttr as well...been forever since i tested it, was to install all the sounds files in the appropriate place(s).

Yeah, you have to unzip the sounds.ff file in order for the sounds to play in FFEDit.

Yeah, I kinda figured that, but is it really worth the trouble & HD space?

unzipping it doesn't take long of take much space. Most of the files are 1mb MP3s, although there are a lot of them it's not too bad. Mines only 390mb in total.

That's not much space to you, but to someone with barely any space at all...that's a lot to just play sound samples. SO back to PG's question, it depends on how much space you have and how badly you want to listen to the sounds. I myself wouldn't bother with it. :P

I'll unzip it until I get to know all the sounds by name.. right now I just re-installed FFvs3R and I want to edit the FX and powers a lot, so for now it will be feasible to devote the 340MB.  You can always delete those files if memory becomes an issue! 

Ohh mental note... better make sure not to delete any custom sound files that get added over the course of installing...
