Getting the most out of my Neverwinter Nights

I have the original - Gold edition.  I never finished the main quest or the one expansion included - although I did get about 2/3 through with one character.  My questions are:

Should I do the main quest?  Is it worth the time and energy to start over?

What mods do you recommend?

How does multiplayer work?

Should I just forget NWN and go out and get NWNII?

Oh man, UY....DEFFINETLY finish it, and play the expansion, and see if you can get your hands on some of the others.  That was one of the best games I've ever played.  I espeically loved the Shadows of Underdark and the Hordes of Undrentide...or was that the other way around?  Anyroad, it great, and the campaigns are fantastic.  The new one is...at best....mediocre compared, at least in my opinion.

I just love modding for NWN - it's like therapy for me. I probably have about 4-5 mods I'm working on all the time, slowly playing other mods and building up my script arsenal.

Most people, including professional reveiwers, say that they mods are better than the main campains.  There are thousands!  Yes, you read that right, thousands!  And I'm not talking about all stinky quality either.

You can find most on http://nwvault.ign.com/  They have a rating system and Hall of Fame that makes it easy to find good stuff.

The official Bioware forums also has suggestions for taking a character through several smaller campaigns.

I would STRONGLY recommend getting either Diamond or the second expansion.  The extra classes and creatures it adds, plus the fact that most mods need both expansions, make it a must.  I started out with gold and bought Diamond for that reason.

I personally like the official compaigns, by the way.  I've finished all three.

The expansion campaigns, however, are not meant to be played with your character from the first, but with a whole new one, who in the story is the same character for both expansions.

Diamond edition.  Then go and download the Community Expansion Pack 2.  Then go multiplayer and find a Persistent World and have fun for a while.  You will get more than your money's worth.  As for NWN2.  Wait a year till the bugs are sorted out.  Ok sure, I got mine the day it came out, but I still rarely play it.

Making this an MMORPG kind of thing?

Ditto, Kommando, I have barely even started playing it.  The combat is just so....wonky....it takes two minutes to complete one 'round.'

Yes, although on a much smaller scale, often with real DM's hanging around, making things more interesting and setting up quests just for you.

I've never gotten into those, though.

I've always wanted to play through the game again with some else.  Let me know if you're interested Yuan, or anyone else, for that matter.  It would be even more fun then playing them through solo.

Not so massive, but multiplayer, online and Free.  I played in the Itropa world for quite a while.  Had a blast.  It does feel like D&D, though you will discover NWN is its own game as well.  Worth a try though.
