I've heard it mentioned that having two travels is a no-no to lots of people. So if I were to get rid of one I would probably dump flight since I rarely use it. I would like to pick up hover so I could have something to help me over some big obstacles.

Anyone have suggestions, based on Ver's build of course, on what I should take in place of flight?

If I don't pick up hover are there any Super Speedsters that can give me some advice on how to get around some of those obstacles?

Em,

I used to have SS as a travel, and Hurdle plus Combat Jumping (which could replace Hover for you) made the majority of obstacles, save for the giant walls in some city zones and the nasty parts of Terra Volta, manageable. I believe that Hurdle and CJ stack to add height to jumps (plus CJ gives you unbelieveable mid-air directional control), while your jump enhancers will increase airborne velocity and, therefore, the distance you cover with each jump.  An additional intriguing option would be to purchase the Good vs. Evil bundle-of-goodies from the CoH website (if you don't have it already), as it includes the GvE jump-pack.  This straps a "click-power" (aren't you glad you know what that means now? :P) jet-pack to your back which adds pure vertical to your movement for a period of time.  The jet-pack, plus Hurdle plus CJ and SS (all slotted up), was the final piece that made fast travel anywhere possible for me.

I'm sure that there are other alternatives to choose, but this is my slightly-less-noobish-than-you success to share.  ;)

I put hover there as your knockback protection during combat, as well as your vertical movement. You can ditch fly and take anything else there, but I'd stick with hover as it's way cheaper than the alternative of acrobatics, which is an end whore.

Uncle Yuan

Another option is to make sure you get a raptor pack temp power from the security mishes.  Used only for those rare occasions when you need to get over a single obstacle it should last essentially indefinitely.  I also suspect that it may be able to craft something equivalent soon . . .

As for taking combat jumping, I may have to consider that.  I have a pure speedster type toon and super run + hurdle is horrible - no control and really rather poor height.  If he falls off a dock in Striga or tries to get around Skyway, it's just a painful nightmare.

MJB

I forgot about crafting.

Heh, I just hope that they don't change so much that I'll need to respec again.

Ver, I'm having problems with the build you gave me.

First off the slotting is off a bit. You have lvl 27 slots going on lvl 30 powers. Also both hover and fly are 3 slotted. If I keep fly it would be pointless to 3 slot hover wouldn't it? I'm a total n00b so feel free to smack me around if I'm wrong.

If I get rid of fly and only use hover to get over obstacles should I still 3 slot hover? I can take pretty much anything in place of fly but I'm worried about how I'm going to slot it. I'm leaning toward Whirlwind.

The reason I'm spazzing is I don't want to do that damn respec TF again. LMAO!

**EDIT**

I was fooling around with the Hero Builder and came up with this...

I didn't change much. I mainly changed the slotting order and added Whirlwind. Did I break yoru build? LOL

As I said a couple posts up, I put hover in there as Knockback protection, it keeps you from being kb locked, and allows for great range of movement while fighting. You'd essentially run it constantly when fighting.

Not seeing where my slotting is off, but whatever. That build you got is fine, I'd maybe move whirlwind to 30 and get build up and aim at 26 and 28. Whirlwind is mostly useless, since they got rid of the animation removing bug, and hell I don't even know if it works with hover.

But yah, that build there should work perfectly.

That's just strange. I printed off your build a while back and the slotting is completely different than the one posted in this thread. Odd. My apologies Ver.

I just grabbed Whilrwind because I was already dipping in the Superspeed Power Pool. Should I throw in Shiver or Frozen Aura in it's place? I suppose I could also dip into another Power Pool if necessary.

Actually, since you already have melee attacks and are taking hover, maybe take air superiority? With Ice Sword and Frozen fists, adding air sup gives you a nice melee combo, and you could literally keep a boss on his butt for eternity with air sup and ice patch. If you do take it, I'd take out that extra slot in super speed and throw it into air sup.

GhostMachine

I'll definitely second Ver's recommendation for Air Superiority. Its an underrated power, as it can be used as a set-up for a combo or as an emergency power to give you time to adjust if you end up with an opponent on top of you all of a sudden. I have it on both my Bots\Dark MM and my Bow Defender, and it gets used quite a bit on the Defender. (MM only has it because there wasn't any other power I really wanted at the time and didn't want Hover)

(For anyone asking why I'd take it on a Bow Defender when using AS causes me to have to redraw the bow, I use it to knock an opponent down then hit either Blazing Arrow or Entangling Arrow on them, or as part of a combo: AS, Brawl, then Sands of Mu)

B A D

Air superiority Yes. Frozen Fists, no. Its not neccesary at all.

Somebody gets that close to you, thats what Freezing touch and/or Slippy Patch of DOOOOM is for.

Then you blast the moogies outta them and  finish em off with the Ice Sword.

And its an absolute MUST you put shiver in your build. Perhaps one of the Best slows, period.

Figure Fan

Oh, and don't take whirlwind..

Eep!
