No, I'm afraid not, for now.
For a few months after my father died (last September) I didn't really feel like making anything.
Then at the end of last year I got a new PC, and found that 3ds Max simply won't work on it, no matter what I tried.
So I assumed I could use my old PC just for 3d modelling, except that somewhere along the line my windows installation on the old PC has been corrupted, will not boot, and will not re-install.
So until I can persuade Max to work on my new PC, or repair my old PC, I couldn't make anything even if I wanted to.

sorry to hear that tommy.
i didn't know about father passing.
take you time, because you know we are no going anywhere.

Whoah! Sorry it's been such a rough stretch, Tommy.

Unfortunately, I don't have Max and don't know about Vista problems, but I wonder if some of the others folks here might have gotten it to work under Vista. At least someone might know a good site to check for Max/Vista compatibility issues...

I feel for you on the secondary PC as well. I had mine go unbootable about a month ago and I haven't been able to get it back. It don't do much on it these days (before the crash), but I was using it as an archiver for a ton of files that I would really prefer not to lose and prefer not to have to dig around on a ton of old CD-Rs, hoping they are still readable.

Condolences on your loss.

About the 3D Studio issue, hopefully someone on the 3DS forums will be able to come out with a solution/workaround, so you can resume your creative endeavours.

Perhaps a virtual machine running Windows XP is in order.  My understanding is that the C-Dilla license mechanism used for 3ds max 5 (which, IIRC, is the version tommy's used) is incompatible with Windows Vista.  If tommy had the memory and CPU capacity to run a virtual XP machine with 3ds max installed on it, perhaps it might work.

P.S. tommy, I salute your courage in coming forward about your loss.

Sorry to hear about your loss, Tommy.

Thanks to those offering condolences.
I just fixed my old PC tonight, (the one with the working 3dsmax on it). I need to buy a new mouse tomorrow, but thereafter I hope to actually MAKE something in the coming week(s).
What, I'm not sure.
I have an urge to make (or more accurately RE-make) some New Gods, inspired by the 'Death of the New Gods' comics.

Hmm... Take it for what it's worth (i.e., not much), but if your new comp is using Vista and if (as is probable 3DS is based on OpenGL), the issue might be there, as MS has decided to remove support for OpenGL in Vista (they just don't like any kind of competition, no matter how small, it seems).
