February bites

Glitch Girl

Well, it's February again, worst month of the year and this one seemingly doubly so.

As mentioned before, I'm one of thsoe people who needs sunlight for regular mental health, and it's been overcast for days around here.  Lots of rain too so there's a dampness to everything.  Couple that with two funerals going on this week (one for a relative and one for a friend of the family) on the heels of a very depressing December and I'm about ready to buy out the local Godiva chocolateer.

And it's not even a week old.

The month's not a total loss yet, but I swear, it's really not starting out very good.

Lord, give me strength...

AncientSpirit

Stay strong, Glitch!

And just remember the words of the prophet:  "Things always look darkest right before they turn ... pitch black!"

(And February can't be all bad:  It gave us that great Bill Murray movie, Groundhog Day.) :D

The Phantom Eyebrow

Ouch Glitchie, not a great start to February there and no mistake.  Not seeing a lot of sunshine around here these days either but at least the sustained gray drizzly misery of January is over.  Perhaps this is the start of better things?  Spring is coming and all that.

Clutching at straws here I know, but we live in hope...

Cardmaster

I'm with ya on the needing of sunlight for mental health thing..

At times when I'm bummed my mantra in life is the following: "It can only go up from here."

There's also the brilliant words of Stephen Hawking: "Where's there's life, there's hope."

BlueBard

GG, you could have shortened your post to "Help! Send Chocolate!"  ;)

I recommend watching puppies, kittens, and babies, not necessarily in that order.  (And I mean 'look at', not 'babysit'.)

Actually, nothing says 'Entertainment' like observing somebody else's toddler.  But I make do pretty well with the one I live with. :D

We shall make it our mission to provide temporary amusement until the clouds break.

(And I'll send up some prayers while I'm at it...)

Qwazy

can I have some chocolate too puh-lease?

Midnight

It's sunny out and the snow is melting... go Maine?

BlueBard

Hm... Apparently chocolate is the wrong prescription.  You should be eating sardines instead.

Or visit a tanning salon, but I'm not sure how many of those you'd have down there.  I mean, in Michigan it seems there's a tanning salon everywhere but then we're chronically overcast.  They might be viewed as redundant where you are.

Qwazy

ill stick with chocolate thank you very much!

and no i will not turn myself orange - fake tan = epic fail
:P

and where i am in the UK, there seems to be at least a tanning booth in many hair dressers/salons as well as a bunch of dedicated tanning studios (...) scattered amoung the place (the nearest one just so happens to havea  huge bright orange sign, isnt that warning enough!!?!??)

BlueBard

Quazy... the tanning salon comment was directed to Glitch Girl, who lives in an ordinarily sunny and warm clime.  ;)

But hey, I guess you could just get chocolate sardines and have the best of both worlds!

Protomorph

I hereby grant BOTH Glitch Girl and Quazy permission to indulge on many fine chocolates.

captainspud

I grant Protomorph permission to eat half of a Snickers bar.

Don't eat the whole thing or you'll ruin your dinner.

Kommando

I like chocolate too.  I've had to deal with so called clinical depression for something like 25 years.  It sucks.  You might want to try taking a vitamin D supplement, since the body needs sunlight to manufacture it and it has been known to have a good affect on seasonal affective disorder.  That may or may not be applicable, but it won't hurt to try.  Also, my latest thing has been to every other day, fill my blender full of various fruit and pretty much use that as a meal supplement for one meal a day.  Sometimes its easier to drink fruit instead of eat it if you don't get enough in your diet.

In any case, good luck to you.  I'm sure the sun will be shining on you soon!  Take care of yourself.

I don't really enjoy the Snickers so much. I can't mix the peanuts and the chocolate in the same bite. It's just...wrong somehow.

Thanks guys.  This helped.

Last funeral was today.  Got to see an old friend who's now a priest in Detroit and seems to be doing well.  And the sun's finally come back out.  Right now I feel like a could use a nap, but won't get that luxury today unforunately.

One week down, three more to go.

Viking

Sorry to hear of all your woes, Glitch.  Maybe taking a gander at a musical interlude will help restore your spirits.

If you need advance warning, this is a redo of the Little Mermaid's "Part of Your World" using characters from the webcomic, Looking For Group.  It's new title is "Slaughter Your World," and it gives a rather different perspective on happy shiny people, bunnies, puppies, and kittens...
