I don't know how many of you have played Jedi Knight Academy, but it seems there's a pretty heated topic going on right now.  Here's the link:

It's a pretty long thread, but if you read the first few pages and the last few pages you'll see what's going on:

Seems some guy, back in 2002, promised to make the best Star Wars mod EVER!  Complete with new scripting a reverse-engineered source code ( :o ), custom maps and models, and a new campaign featuring all the great sequences from all the Star Wars movies.  He even had a great video.  Only problem is that he didn't have a good enough computer, and if people would just donate a few bucks to him ( :o :o) he would be able to finish the GREATEST MOD EVER!!!!  So people donated money ( :o :o :o).  Believe it or not, the mod was never released.  Fast forward to 2007, and this guy promised the GREATEST MOD EVER will be released Jan 1, 2008 (Turkish time) for download on all the file sharing sites.  However, if you wanted a DVD copy of the mod and a custom designed DVD cover, you could just send him $100 and he would send it to you express mail via UPS ( :o :o :o...you get the idea!).  The mod is free, of course, you're simply making a donation to cover the cost of shipping and maintaining the web site....


I bring it up here because I know there were issues in the past with some of the big boys and their characters', but I've never heard of anything this audacious and I can't believe anybody ever fell for it.

I'd like to hear some of your opinions/experiences with anything even remotely close to this.

EDIT -- I forgot to add that 3/4 (roughly) of the content (models, skins, and maps) in the teaser videos was other modders' work...taken without permission.

Oh man, I would totally donate $100 to this but all my funds are currently tied up in a security deposit on the South African national lottery that I was just notified I won.

But when those winnings come through, I'm totally gonna help this guy!

In some ways it makes you think it serves them right for being so gullible. I seldom have any pity for these people when it's so plain to see it's a scam.

And anyway how can he have the greatest star wars mod ever made? When i actually have it and for $99.99 you can have it too, mines even cheaper than his ;)

Star Wars junkies seem to be made of money. Us  :ff: folks, however are all broke. We'd never be able to fund an endeavor like this, even if it were real!
