Yahoo UK has put up the first 5 minutes of Alien vs. Predator: Requiem that you can watch*:

While it whizzes by it does sorta clarify a few things for me:

1. Its gonna be just as dumb as the last one appearing to do away with exposition and starting basically right at the moment the last one ended.
2. It doesn't look like its gonna pull punches (at least not when it comes to a certain movie convention that annoys me to no end)
3. It really makes me wish they'd drop this whole AvP thing and just do another decent alien based movie (The more they flesh out the predator stuff, the less interested I become)

At least it the first five minutes you don't have a guide with a magic compass watch that can tell her anything, or the scientist who can read "predator" writing after 2 minutes of looking at a wall... so already its ahead of the game  ;)

I saw an "R" rated trailer for it, and it looks loads better than its predecessor.  It looks much more gritty and action based, like Aliens or Predator 2.  I use the sequels for comparison because the originals spent alot of time in "setup".  This movie needs very little setup as shown in the 5 min. clip.  The production design is also quite impressive.  Both species look as though they've taken cues from previous designs, which is a good thing.  Watching a Pred "snikt" his claw-blades and they not be 2 feet long was a big plus. ;)  I can't post the trailer because there's some pretty graphic violence (i.e. lots of human head damage and other miscellanous deaths) and a most audible "F" word.  But looking at the wiki entry should get you the link.  Don't even look at the wikipedia article OR the trailer if you don't want to see some major spoilerage!

I had seen that trailer a while ago, and I totally agree that they are trying to be more action packed and gritty with this one. What's really funny, is that if you really go back and watch aliens...its not that action packed at all. It creates the illusion with a couple of set pieces and some great directing of tension by Cameron. Predator 2 on the other hand really is wall to wall action, but it doesn't hold up near as well in my opinion because there is no characterization or any kind of building...its just gunfight after gunfight...

AvP2 is gonna fall into the Predator 2 camp. Which is fine cause as you say its a huge step above the previous one, but that doesn't mean its gonna be good.

Now I feel like I should watch Aliens....
