I just caught the east coast airing and it's an instant classic in my book... SO many icons and wallpapers are going to be spawned from this episode. It was almost a challenge to find how many in-jokes they would put into this hour-long episode that I almost lost track of them all - especially since I was nearly splitting my side laughing so hard.

The biggest impression the episode made however is how amazingly well they reproduced scenes from Star Wars using their animation style that I almost swore they were using clips from the movie (you can tell it's animated if you pause it but it matches the scenes so closely it's very hard to tell the difference). This episode should earn an Emmy for this show on the animation alone.

I'm sure you folks can come up with quotes alot better then me at the moment.... Anyway, If you are on the West Coast and have not seen it yet - WATCH IT and TAPE IT so you can rewind and watch again!

Wow! A pretty consistently funny episode of the reborn Family Guy. I never thought I'd see the day!  :P

That really was one of the best Star Wars send ups I've seen.

Some of the scenes I liked.

  • [in a booth at the cantina]
HAN: I'm Han Solo, captain of the Millennium Falcon and the only actor whose career isn't destroyed by this movie.
LUKE: Is it a fast ship?
HAN: Are you kiddin'? It's the ship that made the Kessel run in less than twelve parsecs?
LUKE: Um... Isn't a parsec a unit of distance, not time?
HAN: <wavng hands dismissively, mumbling> Nah, nah, nah, whadaya wa?...

  • [on board the Millennium Falcon]
    LUKE: They're gaining on us!
HAN: We'll be safe once we make the jump to hyperspace. Besides, I know a few maneuvers. We'll lose 'em.

[cut to shot of MF making tiny, slow alteration in trajectory]

    [on board the Millennium Falcon]
LUKE: <unimpressed> Uh, that... That was your "maneuver"? Moving slightly to the left?
HAN: Well, we're not in the same place we were, eh. That ought to confuse 'em.
LUKE: Yeah, but you hardly did anything. You just started listing lazily to the left. I'm pretty sure they can keep up.

[on board the pursuing Empire ship]
IMPERIAL OFFICER #1: Where did he go?
IMPERIAL OFFICER #2: There they are! They're listing lazily to the left! Go left! Left!
IMPERIAL OFFICER #1: <impressed> Boy! This guy knows some maneuvers!

  • [on board the Millennium Falcon, OBI-WAN coaches LUKE on using "The Force"]
HAN: Hah! You guys seem like crazy morons to me.
LUKE: You don't believe in The Force, do you?
HAN: Oh, you mean that thing you just found out about like three hours ago and are now judging me for not believing in it?
LUKE: Do you believe in anything?
HAN: Uh, yeah. Didn't you see my Kabbalah bracelet?
    LUKE: What's Kabbalah?
HAN: About a buck seventy-five. Hahahaha! Honestly, I have no idea. I'm just a slave to trends.

  • [looking over his rescue reward loot]
HAN: Oh, look: a light-saber cheese knife!

:D

"Hold your fire! There are no life signs aboard!"
"Hold my fire? What, are we paying by the laser now?!"
"You don't do the accounting, Terry. I do."

The lines that made me laugh the hardest were the two times they stuck jokes from "Airplane" into the show.

It was also interesting to me that for the Hellen Reddy and Simply Red references, they cast the real people.

ubergreendragon

had to be the funniest family guy ive seen cant remember last time i laughed so much for one episode they should spoof the rest of them.

the animation was great.  and there were a few solid jokes...  stolen from Airplane.
the funniest joke was in the beginning though:
Meg: Tell the story of how I was born.
Peter: We were halfway home with the afterbirth then we turned around and switched for Meg.

that was perfect.

now the outrageously unfunny pedophilia and "black" jokes,  not really cool to begin with.... why they kept them running so long ??? beyond me.

but well,  i haven't really laughed at family guy until the 4th season started.   or wait, i should change that too "i havent really laughed WITH family guy"
i've laughed AT them plenty, south park's cartoon wars was awesome,  and so are the simpsons vs. family guy videos on youtube.

Silver Shocker

Stewie: "My god look at this mess. 'Hey, Darth Vader's gonna be here. maybe we should clean the place up? Nah, he won't mind.'"

My favourite joke in the episode was the shot of Porkins from the actual death star run in A New Hope. I laughed out loud about that.

For anyone who missed this episode, it will re-air on [adult swim] Sunday October 14th.

You know, my wife and I watched this, and we really enjoyed it......except for the creepy old man as Obi Wan, that JUST ABOUT ruined it for us.  Just about every time he was on screen, we were cringing.  It's just not that funny, more disturbing than anything else.

If I had to pick one thing about Family Guy that I would change I would probably kill off Herbert ASAP. It's just demented humor that takes away from the jovial quality of the show. In the Wikipedia article on Herbert the Pervert, it claims that he was greatly expanded after season 3 due to fan acclaim. Hard to believe, huh?
