Do People Only Make Mods, Skins and Meshes for FF and not FFv3R?

The topic essentially. I look around and all I see are mods/meshes/skins for  :ff: and really, I havn't come across as site that's completly centered on  :ffvstr:. This kinda stinks for me because FFv3R is the only one I have :(

EDIT: For the record, I have the EZ converter thing, so I can occasionally get lucky and manage to scrap together a full set of Keyframes, a mesh and a skin to go with it and get them in game. Still, this seems to be rare.

XLR8er

people make skins/mods/meshes for  :ffvstr: too.

like renegade he made meshes for  :ffvstr:
and c6 he made skins for  :ffvstr:
benton is still working on dc mod for  :ffvstr:

so yeah people still do make skins/mods/meshes for  :ffvstr:

Panther_Gunn

You're not going to find a site that's "completely centered" on  :ffvstr:.  Most people that make content for the second game also made/make content for the first.  There's been a lot of mods made for  :ffvstr:, notably by Premonitioner, as well as others (I've not kept up, but I think the Liberty Bay mod is multiple people).  There are some meshes that are made specifically for  :ffvstr:, to take advantage of things in the new game, but, yes, most meshes are made for the first game, and are convertable (mostly).  So far, it's probably been done because it seemed like more people owned & still played the first game than the second, but also so that new content didn't *exclude* people that didn't have the second game or couldn't get it working properly.  As an artist, wouldn't you want your work to reach as many people as possible?

There are plenty of people willing to help out, if you say you're having trouble locating X mesh or skin, either to help you locate it, or to get it converted (the new game will still use .tga's, but sometimes it works better with the other file format).  With a little patience, you shouldn't have too much trouble getting what you're looking for (unless what you really want is one of those few meshes that just *won't* convert properly, and nobody's made a replacement yet).

Jakew

you should be able to use 99% of the meshes and skins from ff in ffvttr.

but yes, there are more maps available for ff.

Just to reiterate, most of the character meshes and skins have been (and largely still are) made for the first game for good reason: Making them that way means they will work for both games. Most FF meshes will work straight away in FFvT3R and almost all of the remaining meshes can be successfully converted using nifcovert.exe (either in command-line form or wrapped in one of the GUI interfaces). And, as noted, some meshes are now available for FFvT3R exclusively, taking advantage of the lighting features of the newer game.

The mods are not compatible between the two games. Though, it may be true that adding bounding boxes to the object meshes would make many mods for the first game work in the second. The incompatibilities due to scripting should be very minor.

Volsung

I disowned FF.FFVTTR is graphically superior.
Now that I use ffvttr exporter on max 5, I don't even try to make my stuff compatible with FF1.
(Ok ok, I admit, my stuff is rare, for now...)

Now that FFX is up to date, FF1 should be left away from modding.

Thats very hard to believe that you "occasionally" cana get a FF1 mesh/skin/keyframe to work with FFV3R, because out of the over 2,000 meshes/hexes that I have, only 6 didnt work after converted.

street, how hard did you really look? If you look around the dedicated threads, you'd find out that several of the creators have switched to FFVTTR only such as AA, Podmark, Volsung, etc. Tommy is essentially the only mesher creating ff1 meshes at the moment which is good for those who've yet to upgrade or like to play ff1 over ffvttr.

all new FX, though not mentioned, have all mostly been for FFVTTR. If you even took a second to look at the mods threads, you'd see tons of mods dedicated to FFVTTR (IE: threads, on the wiki, the link to some mods in the stickied threads, the FF links on NPI). This also goes for maps since there's quite a few by Gengoro, Humanton, and Cmdrkoenig.

So basically, all I'm saying is, it's not like all that stuff is hidden. It's pretty much in open view for everyone to see even if they give a quick glance.

*note* This post isnt meant to come off as harsh. Just a wonderment.

P.S. There's no site that *focuses* on ffvttr because content was, until recently, created for both games excluding mods and FX based on FFVTTR nifs. Not to mention that most FF oriented sites havent been updated in awhile.

for mods and maps, go to Freedom Reborn Productions:

http://www.frpmods.com/index.html

Joemama started a map site, but he (or she?) seems to have disappeared (RL issues?) from the boards and is not replying to pms.
Anyway, there are two regular maps and a set of pre-linked EZ Script maps for FFVTTR.  The pre-linked maps are done for EZ Script, but I think most of them work as standard RR maps.

All FF1 Skins will work in FF2 (.tga or .dds).  You don't need to convert anything.

With a few exceptions, all my humanoid meshes right now are Tom Versatiles (http://tommyboymeshes.freedomforceforever.com/index.html).  Tom Versatiles have many editable parts/weapons/costumes/etc.  Since they are designed to portray many characters rather than a specific one, however, so they are a bit generic.  Renegade's Toybox was my favorite for custom meshes, but it seems to be down indefinitely... :(.  In the meantime, New Power Inc offers a wide variety of custom meshes.

Finally, for keyframes, go New Power Inc Meshworks (http://newpowerinc.com/meshworks/index.htm), and follow the link for keyframes.  I've found a working keyframe set there for 90% of the meshes I've downloaded (except for the PVs....I think they need their own keyframes) and they have much more variety than standard keyframes (especially Beyonder's and Grenadier's).  I converted all the keyframes, but I think some might work as-is(?)

PS--I also use a handful of Azrael's keys, but I can't remember where I got them!

Hey again everyone,

Sorry about my OP. I knew that people DID in fact make mods and skins and meshes and all, but I was sort of mad and ticked off because I had troubles finding good mods and meshes.

Also to previsionary- I would have tried to look harder, but unlike some people who have been around here awhile, I'm new, and I don't know what the hot spots are, or who does what well. It's overwhelming to come into this community because there are so many things you need to piece together.

Often times, if I find a good skin, I can't find it's mesh, or vice versa. Sometimes, I'll get lucky and get both, only to realize I don't have keyframes for it. 0_o It gets tiring and irritating after awhile.

In short, I'm just overwhelmed. It's hard to dig through a bunch of outdated websites, or to get X and Y, but not Z, or to find something REALLY GOOD, then realize it's for  :ff:.

Boalt- Thanks a lot for posting those links. I found a lot of good meshes in the keyframes one (go figure 0_o)) and better yet, they had really good keyframes! ^_^ (that one was obvious :p). I also got a lot of good maps from one of the links.

You see, I understand the "being new to everything here" feeling, but my point was, that quick glance at a few threads on this forum wouldve given you the feeling that most stuff was being made for ffvttr as opposed to ff1, imo. I didn't mention sites in my post until the end because that wasnt my main point.

Small point...you cant find good mods or meshes? Ouch. :(

*nothing personal, aye.*
