i didn't like the ending, all what happens is kreia is dead. then ebon hawk flew by and fly away from malchaior
then credits

i liked the 1st one cause theres 2 alternated endings

I Loved the first one.
But I could never finish the second one....
Something just seemed off about it. I couldn't get into it.

BatWing

try to beat it you'll see what i mean.

Lunarman

It's odd, I just played this through and finished it on tuesday. I thought it was great! The ending is different depending whether you are dark or light, the MSG doesn't get activated if you are dark side.

I thought it was good becuase every time you play it different parts of the story emerge. To see the full plot you really have to play though 2 or 3 times, which gives it replayability. The only thing is you never see how the general escapes the planet, so I was a bit miffed that I might have died.

Thankfully this is all set before Phantom Menace so therefore the Jedi exile must escape and be the last force user in the galaxy. The Exile teaches all the future jedi the ways of the force.

Verfall

The problem with 2 is a large portion of it was cut to leave it open ended for a 3rd. It starts out well, but eventually you start hitting parts where stuff has been removed, from there it just fits haphazardly together plot lines and ends up leaving you feeling "meh".

The robes and inventory were much better, as were the upgrades for items. The addition of stances and such was also great. The story was better too in my opinion. ironically the game was done by many of the guys who did the first two Fallout games, so that alone made me like the game. I just wished they had been able to finish it the way they wanted instead of bowing to the sequel screamers.

Team Gizka, Trying to restore KOTOR2 to what it should have been

Interesting find... Some of those cut endings would definately beat what we have.

I loved KOTOR 2 right up until the final stages, from around when the player character fights whats-her-name, (the one in all the white robes) onwards. Sorting out a decent plot for that bit would solve all the problems for me.

Kamachi

The woman thats training the handmaidens? The Jedi bird who has issues, I know who you mean I cant recall her name either...

Yeah, it sort of rushes to the ending from that point onwards, I'm just glad you could get a decent speed in the spacesuit in the sequel, anyone whom has bimbled around the kolto facility in KOTOR Knows what I mean :P

My big problem with KotOR 2 was that by the time I finally got my chosen party (Disciple and Visas the first time, Bao-Dur and the Handmaiden the second time) to be Jedi and got them all the powers they needed to function properly, the story hit the "on rails" portion and I was never again able to use both at the same time. I absolutely hate it when RPGs force your team selection in the ending segment. That should be when your guys are at full power and you should get to play the team you've developed.

Sigh.

Overall, I thought KotOR was mechanically awesome, and the whole game up to the last Atris fight was great. But from then on, the story really sucked.

BatWing

kotor has atris?

i thought kotor was great cause the story has a little twist :o

It think Spud was referring to KotOR 2. There is definately no Atris in Kotor 1, and the ending definately did not suck.

KotOR 1 is one of my favorite games ever. KotOR 2, while good, was ultimately disappointing for me.

Kotor 2 has such a phenomenal build-up. Which makes it all the more painful to play through the about last fourth of the game, where it is ridiculously obvious it was rushed to make holiday sales. Had LucasArts given Obsidian maybe 6 more months of development to FINISH the game, it could have easily surpassed KotOR 1, and that's saying a LOT. As it is though, we play through a game with such great exposition, such wonderful build-up that you're anticipating some sort of revelation to happen with emotional happenings with your crew, not to mention finally meeting the villains of the game...and it never happens. I played through the game once on the good side, and that scene in the Jedi Enclave with Kreia is so good, it rivals almost the excellent twist in the first game. But after that scene, the game rather sucks. A lot of people didn't like Kreia because of her ambiguity, but she is one of the most developed characters I've seen in a videogame. She makes that game worth playing till the end, imo. The ending confrontation with her is one of, if not the only good thing about the ending of Kotor 2 (or rather a lack thereof I should say).

I've seen worse endings, but Kotor 2's is bad because of how much potential it could have been. Have you guys seen the deleted dialog and scenes from KotOR 2? I mean, holy cow, each character has a huge scene, including very, VERY powerful death sequences and emotional lines between your crew. If this was included, it would have blown KOTOR 1 out of the water. But instead, we get a really rushed, tacked on ending, that's quite formulaic and of course left wide open for a future game (which, as far as i know, isn't even announced yet). Gah, LucasArts should be ashamed of themselves for forcing this one to be rushed.

Don't even get me started on the villains. I will say this though: the main villain on the freakin cover of the game is in it for like what, 5 minutes? His name is never said by anyone in the game, and he virtually plays no role. God damn it that ticked me off. Such a prominent villain said to be so destructive in the game ends up being practically a nameless, faceless ghost.

Ugh, ok, I'm done with my rant. Don't get me wrong, I loved Kotor 2 and think it's a worthy sequel to Kotor 1, but in no way is it better with that tacked on ending. It also suffers more bugs than the first, and the games new "influence" system, is horribly broken. I'd give kotor 2 an overall 8/10, simply for how great the first 3/4ths of the game are. The ending isn't bad enough to ruin the entire game, but it definitely leaves a bad aftertaste in your mouth. At least for me.

That's one of the reasons Obsidian made this game instead of Bioware.  Bioware doesn't like being pushed around by publishers and license holders.  If they don't feel like they have enough control to make a good game, they'll often pass.  Obsidian has inherited sequals twice this way, and in both cases, and sequal was considered inferior to what it should have been due to being pushed by the publisher for a fast release.

Yeah, I know. It just kills me knowing how fantastic Kotor 2 could have been, had Obsidian been given the time to put in those wonderful deleted parts. Obsidian has some GREAT talent...they just aren't big enough to tell LucasArts "no, not ready yet" whereas Bioware is.

Has anyone heard anything of KotOR 3? I looked at that other thread about an MMO, and good lord, I hope that isn't the case. Leave Galaxies the only SW MMO.

BatWing

i hope in kotor u can team up with other people
or kill em
