After 'skoping a file to create a new character, if I rename the folder that the nif is in, or move the folder somewhere else, the nif converts to it's original setting.   Is this a common occurrance?   Is there anyway to stop this from happening?

Ooooooh budy this Is a problem I never really had but what I do first before I skope a character is I copy the file and give it a new name first then convert it (usually for me it's already converted) and then I skope it.

Make sure when you save your file, that it's saving it in the right location. I've noticed that sometimes, the save command defaults to a directory you were working in previously, rather than the one you're working in currently.

The problem I'm having working with preconverted meshes, is that I get an error message saying that "Nif versions Differ, results will be unpredictable".   When this happens, I am unable to add the new piece to to 'skope that I am working on.   I figured that this was just a Vista issue though.

You convert both the mesh you are getting parts from and the skope you're working on. ;)

I've reconverted the base meshes, and that solved this problem.   I think the issue was that I had originally converted one of the meshes on a pc that has an OS of windows 2000 while the other I did on mine which is the vista.

The other issue though, for example, I skoped tommyboy's superman_tvlite mesh down to just a male_basic with a cape to use it for some Superman skins that I had for a Male_Cape_Nobelt mesh.   But I figured since I already had that stripped down, I would use the 'skope as a base for a Sceptre 'skope that I wanted to do.   when I copied the the new superman skope, and opened it up with nifskope, the original superman_tvlite mesh appeared.   This happens anytime I try something like this.  It just gets frustrating after a while.   So I wasn't sure if it was a vista issue, reverting the nif back to it's original format, or if something else was going on.

Try this test.
Take mesh into nifskope.
Pick a piece and "delete branch".
Save. Check WHERE its being saved to (ie its best to make a copy of the mesh folder and edit and save in this copy).
Close nifskope.
Open nifskope and open the recently edited file. Is the piece deleted, or still there?
It's easy to forget to save or to save in the wrong directory, but I've never had a problem with Nifskope if I operate it properly.
