on bloody consoles!!!

Why in the hell is a game that was a million times better on PC than Xbox being made into a console online game? I mean sure, they may announce a PC version when they actually formally announce the game, assuming this rumour is true, but come on, console-twits can barely feed themselves nevermind play something like a KOTOR online game.

GRRR -_- I wanted KOTOR3, not a damn MMO >_>

Reepicheep

Ach. Not good. I was hoping for another in the sequel. KOTOR 2 had something resembling a cliff-hanger after all.

How come we end up with an MMO? ANOTHER MMO.

Co-op KOTOR wouldn't be bad. MMO is way out.

Reeps unhappy.

The first thing to consider is that at the moment this is still just a rumor. Yes, Bioware has set up a separate body to work on MMO type projects, but they've also stated that for the moment they only want to work on their own IPs. Note also that KotOR 2 was handed off to Obsidian so that raises questions as to whether they would go back. Lastly, it does not seem likely to me that LucasArts would begin another Star Wars MMO in the wake of Galaxies.

By the way, I'm not entirely sure I understand the "million times better on PC" comment. Of course the graphics would be improved to a degree, and some people may have preferred the PC controls and interface, but was there some other big difference that I am forgetting? I've only played the XBox version unfortunately, simply because there is no way I could get the PC version to run on my machine, so maybe you know better, having played both.

First of all, Verfall, I assure you that as a console owner I am perfectly capable of feeding myself.  As for your comments, I find them very insulting and the kind of material coming from someone trying to start stuff.

Second, not everyone owns a PC.  And while KOTOR was released on the Mac, the sequal as yet to come out on the Mac and I doubt will.  Before you go insulting me for owning a Mac, it is for business purposes primarily.  The only game I have for it is Civilizations 4 and it's expansion.

Third, as for the idea of a KOTOR MMO . . . I'd rather have a KOTOR 3.  I'd also not mind having "Galaxies" out on the Mac but even then don't know that I would get it.

@ mr. hamrick
first, tho I believe I cans ee your arguement at taking offense to the solitary comment made at th end of verfalls post (comment. not comments as you posted, the barely feed themselves is the only part I would take exception to) I find your reply to be more flame bait than the original post.

second, "not everyone owns a pc" is about all you needed there, you certainly didnt need "Before you go insulting me for owning a Mac", more flame bait, I dont think verfall has ever brought up mac users in any debate.

third, valid for the conversation.

now i'm sure you didnt mean any of your post to come out as specifically flame bait, i'm just trying to show that you can say things that can be taken the wrong way with little thought.

Actually, the PC version has a number of bug and glitches that are not present in the console versions.  The game's still playable, but still.

Tortuga

Awhile back I heard that Bioware was working on a 'Star Wars MMO'.  Considering Bioware's track record, I'd say there's not much to worry about.

Camma

Hmmm, i too would rather see KOTOR continue in its running incarnation.  If they want to take advantage of online play set up a multiplayer deathmatch thing.  But do we need another MMO (granted itll be years before we see it)?  I wouldnt mind seeing it as an MMO but only if they look for new ground to break in the market.  Someone really needs to go a new direction with the entire leveling/character and skill development thing, i dunno what but the kids are dying for something fresh.

As for a consol MMO, ugggg. Didnt we all learn from Everquest Online Adventures for ps2 that MMOs and consols dont mix well?  Maybe the next gen systems can handle the persistant world game database and graphics, but i will always doubt the UI when using a simple consol controler.

captainspud

How can you play a MMO without typing?

And once you're hooking up a keyboard and mouse, why not just put it on the PC?

I own tons of consoles, Wii, N64, Xbox, Gamecube, PS2 and plan to get a 360 when my finances get sorted out. I was talking about the console-only folks, the ones that play Halo online constantly but get utterly destroyed when they have to use a mouse and keyboard to achieve the same goals. My sisters friend Daniel is a perfect example of a console-twit. Kid thought City of Heroes was too hard to play. I mean come on, my 8 months pregnant sister played for hours at 4am when she couldn't sleep, and her usual computer gaming time is spent playing poker. She could figure it out but he couldn't? I don't like playing GTA games on PC, and I'm a big fan of wrestling games, so of course I need to keep a console around.

But seriously, KOTOR, and after hearing the news of the Fallout MMOG liscence being sold, are not the kind of games I wanna see as MMO's. The core of the gameplay ends up being lost, and all you end up with is bad PVP and nerfs. Make an MMO using something that hasn't already been established with a gaming storyline or a style of gameplay that people enjoy(if Fallout 3 isn't turn based someone dies). I know WOW breaks that rule, but seriously Blizzard could crap into a box at this point and probably sell a couple million copies. Nevermind Warcraft was a strategy game compared to the other two being Role Playing games.

I wanna see a Shadowrun MMO, or any cyberpunk MMO really. Anarchy Online was kinda close, but is such a mess when it comes to items you basically need a math degree to even think of getting into the high levels. There has to be other genres that could use a game based on them done by a company with enough bank to do it right.

Hell, a Transformers MMO anyone?

Verfall

Oh...*points at Camma's sig* Sepultura!

Camma

I figured Ver would be one of the few to appreciate the current sig.

Exactly what i thought when i got into EQ:OA (online adventures for ps2) and had to get a keyboard.  No mouse support at all for that one.  It hurt my brain to have a consol controler and a keyboard.  IMO they need to be mutually exclusive.

NARUTO MMO FTW!!!

GhostMachine

A KOTOR MMO would have one serious advantage over Star Wars Galaxies: it wouldn't be run by Sony. That's the one reason I never played SWG, despite signing up and reserving a name of my character ahead of time, because it was bad enough playing Everquest with it being run by them.....

If they destroy the goodness that is Fallout, I will also join you in this killing of people.

Kommando

I have the KOTOR games as well as both Neverwinter Nights.  If there had been an option to play persistent worlds in KOTOR then I would have never had to shill out a couple of grand US to run a Star Wars sim on Second Life.  I could have used the money to by a dedicated server compy.  Not the MMO is just...  bleh.  Come on, let's take the RP out of RPG and add a dose of World of Warcrack?  :banghead:   Granted it is Bioware so there could be a half decent story to the missions.  And I'll enjoy playing my games with Revan10156 and bastilagrrl457, particularly when we are PVPing againt anakin1337 and nihilusdude122 and the Darth Kids.  Did I mention RP being removed?  Go ahead, just try and RP somewhere in an MMO - its not pretty.  I might check it out mainly because I buy everything Star Wars.  Only thing that could salvage it IMO is if it was on PC and I could play with friends.  Meh, we'll see.

MyndVizion

Well first off all of this is stil simply rumor: about the KOTOR MMO thing....

Second, Microsoft's development tools between the 360 and PC games is basically the same. This was intentional so that developers could code once (basically) and be able to release a game on both platforms without a complete redesign. This is a good thing.

Third there are new games in development that will allow players on 360s and PCs to play together - which is very cool.

Fourth if the whole KOTOR MMO on 360 thing is truth then it's possible it could be released on PC as well - which is just good for gaming. I'm not 100% sure but I think the Marvel Universe MMO is going to do this exact same thing, or was that Conan - I forget now.

Fifth, I agree with others here that a KOTOR 3 would have been preferable. But there's the thought that such a fantastic property of Star Wars needs to be an MMO. SWG is dying - Sony can't do anything right in the MMO department (MHO). I have faith in BioWare that they could do a superb job with the Star Wars license and make a great MMO experience.

Lunarman

Well KOTORII seems to have the interface and game system of an MMO anyway. I makes sense they'd release an MMO based on it. It will be nice, especially since KOTOR II has such a good plot. At least there's subplots and treachery and murder and hidden motives and secret histories. It's one step ahead of GW/WoW/Jedi Academy.

Hooray for computer games I have to play through three times to understand!
