Tortuga

When the non-combat pets were announced, I didn't think Tortuga would grab one.

Then I remembered Stumpy.  Tort's garden gnome running mate from the later issues of Dr. Manbot.

Tortuga and Stumpy are now reunited in Paragon City!!  Watch out, City Hall!

Heh...

I should be getting mine in a week or so. Probably won't take any for most of my characters... one or two may take the imp...

I have to say, I'm extremely... underwhelmed by the 3-year rewards. I mean, they're for THREE YEARS!!! They should be something that everyone's going to be excited about- like wings all over again. Instead, what do we get? Let's see;

1: A badge. All vet rewards come with badges.

2: Non-combat pets. I like the basic idea, but I don't think much of the selection. They just seem boring to me.

3: The vehicle base items. These look to be the best part, but they're for the base, not the character.

I am looking forward to seeing what the next year's worth of rewards will be, though...

Do me a favor, Turtle? Put a flyer in the Imperium base? There's a hangar next to the arboretum. It's been sitting there since the reward was announced, waiting to be occupied...

Tortuga

Will do, Spud.

The biggest dissappointment is the lack of interaction with your 'pet'.  You can't target it...at all...therefore you can't do any of the fun stuff available to MM pets.  No renaming, no emotes, no binds...nuthin'.  It just follows you around and will take ages to catch up to a Jumper or Speedster.

It does confuse folks in Atlas Park though.  Which is fun.

Has anyone tried summoning one of these pets on a Mastermind? I wonder if they'd be able to do some of that stuff... Probably not, but it would be worth a try...

Cool! Hey Tort, can you tell us what other pets are available? Do any of them fly at your side?

These new pets are 36-month veteran rewards- you have to have had an active account in the game for three years to get them. They include: a robot, a Clockwork, that gnome (actually a redcap), a Rikti monkey, and a little imp (the only flying pet available).

For more info, see here.

I just want wings...  I think I have two months to go.

I also received my 36 month badge and rewards at midnight last night.  The red demon is by far the coolest looking pet and the only pet that has the power of flight. The clockwork pet has its own unique summoning animation(the summoning animation used by an Assembler Prince Boss).  The mini mekman pet has the same 'ringing bell' sound effect as the Council Mekman.  I was flying through Steel Canyon and I could see my pet clockwork pet running in the street and climbing buildings below me trying to keep up.  All pets appear to be are intangible.

Thanks for the link, Alaric.

I'm surprised that they didn't go for some more traditional pets like wolves, birds, or dragons. Still, the idea of a pet is cool. Can you remove it from your character on a per-costume basis, or is it stuck once you take the reward?

Well, the devs have said that they haven't been able to make four-legged animals look reasonably good, which probably explains why there are no wolves, cats, dogs, etc. I do wish they'd included at least one bird, though.
