What's all the fuss over the Hulk returning to earth?

So what if he is ticked? The Sentry will calm him down or flat out squash him if he doesn't behave. Seriously, now that the Sentry is in the Marvel universe there is no villian or hero that can beat him. Bring it on Silver Surfer, Thanos, Galactus whoever. Unless you have the Infinity Gauntlet you will not stand a chance againt the Sentry.

I'm gonna guess that hulk won't be alone in his quest, he will probably have his alien buddies with him and I wouldn't be surprised if a few heroes/villians join him. Sentry usually doesn't like to interfere in "hero" matters that much from what ive seen.

SingleMalt

Sentry could take Hulk and a couple of planets worth of his alien buddies out before Lost breaks to commercial if he wanted to.  Lame? Maybe but it's Marvels fault for creating a being as powerful as The Sentry. Unless they find a weakness for him, there is no threat that he can't handle. I am sure that Sentry will not allow Hulk to hurt innocents in his quest.

Yeah, but if absolutely necesary they could sick li'll miss Emma Frost on Sentry, who know's the inside of his head better than he himself does. Just saying... it's a story option if they choose to take it.

is that why there's going to be a world war hulk:x-men series?? hmmn ;)

thanoson

You guys really think Sentry could take the Surfer? Or thanos? Not gonna give him that much credit.

AND the surfer just got amped up by galactus.

captmorgan72

That depends, can Surfer channel all of the cosmos? If he can, then he has the power of billions of exploding suns which beats millions.

GhostMachine

When the Hulk returns, his number one target should be S.H.I.E.L.D., and the recent shake-up in that organization should make things really interesting when it happens.

I skipped most of Civil War because I knew it was going to be crap (and was right, unfortunately), but I'm kind of looking forward to World War Hulk.

gdaybloke

Unless I'm mistaken, Sentry's powers are purely on the physical plane. Thus any half-decent telepath/psychic or mage should be able to shut him down.

Of course, I have no idea how he "batted" away Somnus' dream blob thingie in the second issue of Silent War, but still...

starlock

one panel says, the power of a thousands suns,
another power of a million suns
and now you are saying power of a billion suns
i like how the sentry is coming along, but please he is a basket case emotionally

thanoson

I think he hypes himself up too much. Hell, Photon was hunting him around the universe I recall. But I do know one thing; Wolverine can't beat him.  Unless he possibly got him in the eye. Then maybe. Now, if Liefeld was drawing Sentry in X-Force, Shatterstar's swords would suddenly be able to cut through stars. Or some drivish like that.

B A D

Wake me up when its the power of a gajillion suns.

Jezus, its like Control Freak from the Teen Titans Cartoon is running Marvel.

"well, my dood is sOOOO powerful he can beat Thanos! and Galacticckyus!"

If he does head for S.H.I.E.L.D, I can see him giving Iron Man the beating alot of people think he deserves. To be honest I think they should have kept Hulk in space, and maybe even involve him in the next Annihilation, I mean he has a ship right? They could have made him like the 'Exiles' of space, helping planets in need. I mean space is like the only place where Hulk will meet foes that are equal to him. I mean I'm really disappointed they're bringing him back to Earth, since there are so many new and interesting possibilities. Also I think doing this so soon after Civil War is nowhere near enough time to see the repercussions of the event. Sorry for the little rant, Marvel is my favourite company, and Hulk is a great character, but right now Marvel are making a mistake with him, and I just hope this is a good event.

I don't have a lot of expectations for that to happen. However, I would like to see Stark use a new version of the Hulkbuster armor, only for the Hulk to rip through it like tissue paper. But I would like to see the Hulk wipe the floor with S.H.I.E.L.D. so bad that fixing the damage wipes out 3/4 of their annual operating budget.

Frankly, I don't think Stark will really get a comeuppance unless some writers (and I mean intelligent writers, which leaves out Mark Millar and Joe Q) decide that every hero who was on the anti-reg side and some of the pro-reg heroes who think that the ends don't justify the means and disapprove of the underhanded, if not outright villainous methods used, turn their backs on Stark and make him persona-non-grata. Same thing with corporations who deal with Stark. It would be pretty awesome if he ends up almost bankrupt because companies suddenly pull their contracts from Stark's company and won't even give him or representatives a meeting.

A lot of the Sentry's power at this point is hypothetical; we just haven't seen him fight enough characters, or do enough things.  We don't know how he really rates compared to Silver Surfer, for instance, and you just can't take his tag-line literally.  I mean, is Superman actually made of steel?

MyndVizion

The Sentry's a wuss.  The guy was in Civil War and what did he do?  Got two teamed by Hercules and Hulkling and dropped out of the fight like a narc at a biker rally.  The Sentry is one gigantic media machine.  The media hype is huge, but when it comes right down to doing anything he wimps out and falls over.

When the Hulk comes back he's going to be just a tad displeased. I'm thinking he throws Sentry to the dark side of Jupiter by his face while he pummels Iron Man with his big toe.  Basically World War Hulk is like your mom saying, "Wait till your father gets home."

SingleMalt

Sentry didn't fight because he never wanted to fight his fellow heroes in the first place. Instead he allowed people to pound on him and just take it, because he can. He feels torn between Tony and Steve but choose Tony's side because he feels he owes humanity the right to feel safe. He understands the public's need to feel that the metahumans are not going to eventually see themselves as gods among mice.

To say that the Sentry is a wuss is just crazy. He certainly is one of the most powerful beings to exist in the marvel universe. There is a reason that Hulk pisses himself when he hears the word Void.

Despite the storyline debacle about Roberts/Void/Sentry, I still really like this character. The first volume was excellent and the New Avengers story was good too.

I hope Sentry will not be tarnished by bad writing like Hercules has been, but we will see.

Dweomer Knight

The Sentry fought the collective force of (almost) every single mutant on the planet and came away without a scratch.  The best the Michael Collective was able to do was push him away...briefly.  Sentry pounds enraged Hulk into gamma-irradiated goo.

He must have some mental vulnerability or "The General" would never have been able to affect him in the first place.  However, since it took "The General" years to accomplish this feat and he needed help to do it, I'm guessing that any super of lower mental caliber than Dr. Strange or Pro. X doesn't stand much of a chance.

I don't know how "ramped up" the Surfer is now so I can't comment there.  But I'm guessing Sentry would mop the floor against Firelord or Terrax.

I'm sorry but frankly I feel he was tarnished in creation and given a retroactive rep he never earned. Another symptom of Marvel's complete writing failure.

Sword

Hulk is ticked because the most powerful heroes sent him into space before Civil War.
During that time, he went from being a gladiator, to a military general, to messiah and ruler of that planet.
Now something draws him back and this is going to be the worst Hulk any hero of villain has ever seen. Allthe rage of the normal hulk, but with Banner's mind and the strategy of an alien world's best army. And who's to say that the alien army isn't coming with him? He saved them from destruction and led them to prosperity, so they'll follow him to the ends of the universe.

Blkcasanova247

Wow!  Did anybody read this weeks issue of Hulk......I think you see the icing on the cake for his return to earth in the next ish! Greg Pak is doing a superb job with the Hulk.  I can't wait until next month!

gengoro

Maybe sentry might not even be enough.

Thats pretty damn impressive.[/spoiler]

Carravaggio

yeah thats tough...do we have confirmation that all the members of the illuminati were in on the plan to send hulk into space? i think i remember namor being outraged about it and refusing to participate. i'd like to think BB acted similarly.
although if thats true neither of them stopped reed and tony, right? kinda makes them guilty by association.

Blkcasanova247

Conspiritors: Reed, Tony and Black Bolt. Namor and Dr. Strange left and Chuck (Xavier)...well....he as you know was indisposed. The Hulkster gonna run wild on the Illuminati brother....wow...I'm so sorry for goin' all "Hulkamania"!  :P

The Sentry is an interesting character. I think you have to take the "power of a thousand suns" more as a tagline than is regular power level. It's a simple fact of comics, and has been for decades that some characters run on a sliding power scale, only showing their upper power levels against super powerful threats.

The concept for Planet Hulk didn't interest me at all at first, simply not a Hulk fan, but what I heard as it went on seemed interesting. Again Planet Hulk is of limited interest, but the X-Men mini will feature the New X-Men (yay!).

Hulk supposedly has no upper strenght limit if he gets mad enough, so in theory him and Sentry could really go at it.

thanoson

Umm....he took a shot from Black Bolt. He is surely ticked. He maybe on perma rage.

Verfall

If Hulk pounded Sentry into thousand sun goo, I'd certainly enjoy it. After the killing off of Cap, I'm all up for Hulk turning anyone on the "Pro" side into various shades of paste. Including Joe Q.
