Hi. Where can i download some generic voice packs for  :ff: and  :ffvstr: ?

John Jr.

You can find a good list of vps here (some are inactive):
http://freedomreborn.net/archive/index.php?topic=41060.0

And you can get a lot of great vps in Sledgehammer's site:
http://ffvc.web.officelive.com/default.aspx

Or you can just use VPMax and get a huge variety of vps:

Hope it helps.

Off the top of my head, I'd recommend Zetor's packs (found on cmdrkoenig's sites), George Ledoux's packs, Glitch Girl's packs, and Yellow Lantern's packs for generic voice packs.  I really haven't had enough time to review a lot of the newer content, though.  All of those should be findable from that archive link.  If you see some that you just can't find, list them individually and I'm sure someone can direct you to where they live now, or can just have them sent to you.

I can't seem to make the voice pack working. I'm trying to install Zetor's male british in  :ff:. I have been following different tutorials from the FR wiki ,Zetor's readme file, and Yellow Lantern's readme file. At the template tab, i used the ffx tigot as a base for the new character template. I tried the char_obj_minion, the char_obj_hero in the template tab and also the library/cutscenes/blank in the characters tab.The only thing i'm not trying is the "optional" instructions for the captions? So far i've managed to get the new voice name to appear on the list of voices, but when i select it for a custom hero and test it in game there's no new voice.

I think i'm having the same problems like in this thread?

What are the usual mistakes people do when installing voice packs?

Panther_Gunn

Ok, let's back up a step.  First, I want to verify that you're installing to  :ff: and not  :ffvstr:.

If you're installing into the first game, stick with Zetor's instructions -- if I remember, they were pretty concise.  Also, there's no need for anything on the Template tab to install voices in the first game.  I don't think the cutscene makes any difference (I never noticed any).

Have you copied the entries into the speech.txt, and then compiled the sound .dat's? (going only off of memory -  about the middle of the main tab)  This is what tells the game where to find the sound files, and which ones to use for what event.  Adding it to the Characters tab lets it show up in the game, and links the "name" to the voice ID code.

Yes. I'm currently trying to install the voice pack for  :ff:.

Here is the readme instructions i am following.

Quote1) Copy the files into the Data\Sounds\Speech\English subdirectory.

2) In folder Data\Lang\English, open speech.txt with a text editor.

3) At the bottom of the file, paste the following lines:

-------------------------CUT--------------------------------------

!!ENSURE THAT THERE IS A SPACE IN FRONT OF EVERY LINE!!
Done. No problem there.

Quote4) Open FFEDIT, go to Characters tab and create a new character with any
name you want. Give it whatever attributes and powers you want, but ensure
that "Campaign Only" checkbox is UNCHECKED, the "Cutscene Base" box says
"library\cut_scenes\blank", and the CGenericHero AI is selected in the "AI"
dropbox. In SpeechID box, type in "SN". Press "Save".

Ok. I created SN_Male_British as a new character and followed #4.

Quote5) Go to Templates tab and create a template for the character you just
made (press New, enter the name you used for your character, pick Flesh or
whatever else you want for material, pick GAME_OBJ_HERO as Class, and
choose a character.nif for any custom character in the Example .nif file
textbox). Press "Save".

Same here. The new template i made was SN_Male_British and i chose the default character.nif which was-> custom_characters\ffx_tiggot\character.nif

Quote6) If desired, open your Strings.txt file in Data\Lang\English, and give
your new hero a proper name by typing "<your new hero name>_01, <proper name>"
at the bottom of the file.

I skipped this "If desired" step.

Quote7) Back in FFEDIT, go to Options tab. Ensure that the proper path is selected
in "Output Directory" textbox (It should be pointing at your Data\Lang\English
directory). Click "Generate Language Files" and select your strings.txt,
captions.txt and speech.txt when prompted. If everything was done correctly,
the FFEDIT will compile new speech files and give you a SUCCESS! message at
the end.

8) Launch the game. You should be able to pick the new sound scheme from the
drop box now.

Then i checked the output directory, generated language files, selected speech, captions, and strings txt when prompted and finally got a "SUCCESS" message. Launched the game and picked the new sound scheme from the drop box of voices. The only problem is when I go to the danger room to check if i can hear the new voice from my custom character. I get nothing.

Panther_Gunn

Sorry it's taken me so long to get back to you.  I don't usually get much time to dig into the back-up during the week.

I had forgotten that *everybody* put a step in about the Templates tab.  I found it to be unnecessary.  Here's the specific steps for FFEdit that I outlined in the EZVoice Pack Installer (if you're interested, let me know, but it's kind of big).

1. Open FFEDIT, go to Characters tab and create a new character with any name you want. Ensure that "Campaign Only" checkbox is UNCHECKED, and the CGenericHero AI is selected in the "AI" dropbox. In SpeechID box, type in the appropriate code for the voice pack (found in the speech.txt file). Press "Save".

2. Go to Options tab. Ensure that the proper path is selected in "Output Directory" textbox (It should be pointing at your Data\Lang\English directory). Click "Generate Language Files" and select your strings.txt, captions.txt and speech.txt when prompted. If everything was done correctly, the FFEDIT will compile new speech files and give you a SUCCESS! message at the end.

3. Launch the game. You should be able to pick the new sound scheme from the drop box now.

The other thing that comes to mind is the file path for the sound files in speech.txt.  Did you unzip the contents into the main Data\Sounds\Speech\English directory, or did you make a subfolder for them (almost a requirement once you start having lots of voices)?  You would need to add that subfolder into the path, so that the entries in speech.txt look like SPEECH_SN_ALERT_01, speech\english\new_folder_name\SNAL01.mp3  (with the requisite space at the front of the line, of course).

Thanks for the reply. I think i've already tried doing the steps you mentioned. I unzipped the mp3 files in the english directory but I haven't really tried putting them in a separate folder or skipping the templates tab step though. I'll give it a try and see if that works. It would be nice to try the Ez voice pack installer too.
