Where can I find hero files and their skins and meshes? It seems pretty hard to find them both together. I don't see why it isn't easy to download both at the same time.

Here are some links to hero files that I know of:

Jimaras8's Hero Files Mostly Marvel hero files that are meant to go alongside BentonGrey's Marvel Adventures and DCUG (DC Universe According to Grey) mods.  Really well done and definitely worth a look.  They are also the most updated of the bunch.

Taskmaster's Hero Files Has Marvel, DC, and quite a few Indy stuff.  Pretty much the premiere hero file pack. He creates his files by taking a look at Marvel RPG stats and using his own formula to convert them to Freedom Force (and its expansion). That can be found here.

USAgent's Hero Files This guy also has a lot of content and is another premiere hero file artist.  You won't find any shortage of characters, here! (Also, he has two groups with skins and meshes that he used for some of his files. Link 1 / Link 2

Mr Aratak's Hero Files He has a LOT of content.  A lot of heroes and even more villains.  He has everything from classic Universal Studios monsters to Marvel to DC to Dark Horse and many more! His hero files are all made for :ff:, however, but they can be converted to :ffvstr: using Alex's EZHero Tool.

Afghan Ant's Hero Files You can find them in the downloads tab.  All of the meshes that he uses are his own and they can all be found on the same site.

The main (and possibly only) reason that I can think of is to keep file size down.  Some users like Taskmaster X, Jimaras8, and Mr. Aratak release hero files in bulk, sometimes including over 50 heroes per update.  To include the meshes would make the download size substantially larger, and for some members, that can be a problem.

I know Abenavides (aka Alex) used to have a direct link to the mesh that he used in his "Recipes" (hero files), and some users like Afghan Ant keep their hero files on the same site as their own content or even include their hero file upon the mesh's release.

I hope all of this helps you out. If you need anything else, please don't be afraid to ask. ^_^

I just assumed it was due to not just the variety of hero files there are, but for the fact that we all typically have our own interpretations of how they should be made.

That said, if it was just hero files you were looking for Distorto, then spydermann's been pretty exhaustive.  As far as skins and meshes are concerned, a few sites to should look at are:

www.alexff.com
www.heroforce.freedomforceforever.com
www.tommyboymeshes.freedomforceforever.com
http://forceofparadox.byethost31.com/index.html
http://catman.freedomforceforever.com/index.html

Those are the main ones that are mostly used.  However, there's also pretty much everything else, which would be in individual Yahoo Groups respective to who created them.

http://ffportal.negative-10.com/dir/36/Meshes-(Yahoo)
http://ffportal.negative-10.com/dir/37/Skins-(Yahoo)

Those two should cover about everything not on the Master Mesh List that's been around for a few years.  If not, here that is too:

I know they're all separate and that might be the source of your frustration, but it'd take some cobbling together either way.  IMO, it's part of the fun of the game.  But that's me.

Another option is to pull from some of the Game Mods. I would highly recommend Benton Grey's "DCUG" or "Marvel Adventures" Mods: https://bentongrey.wordpress.com/

Distorto i think my fellow Freedomers  :D covered me in a great extent. There is a lot of content in the links they provided you, all you have to do it decide which ones fit your ideas fo the heroes you want to make. Have fun, hero creation is one of the best parts of this wonderful game . Tinker and mix away!!!!

P.S Guys i will upload v.10 of my hfs in afternoon. Now that spyder has mentioned it if anyone has any problem finding the mesh meant for my hero file e-mail me away and i will send it to you.
