Marvel announced/confirmed their next set of movies at SDCC. Ant-Man, Thor 2, Captain America 2, and Guardians of the Galaxy.

Some very exciting news. The highlight for me was:

QuoteNext, a logo for the sequel to "Captain America: The First Avenger," officially called "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" appeared onscreen, triggering a wild reaction from the crowd.

HECK YES!

Full article can be read here.

Ant-Man?

Can't wait to see what they do with that

A concept pic of GotG was shown. Looks really good.
Really excited about the Winter Soldier storyline being used.

Hooray for Bucky!

Perhaps we'll find out that Peggy Carter was also cryogenically frozen in the 1950s?

I know I'm excited...I'm not really an Iron Man, Captain America, Thor or Avengers fan (as I'm more of an underdog hero/team fan)...But I've really enjoyed all of these Marvel movies (my least favorite was Thor).  I really wish Marvel could get the movie rights back to Spidey so they were making Spider-Man films, instead of Sony...I'd like to see Spider-Man included in this universe too (The X-Men and Fantastic Four also).

I'm also glad to hear of the possible Guardians of The Galaxy movie too...I really started to like that team, until Marvel put the book on hiatus (translation: canceled it).

well.Antman fills me with inertia but Marvel studios has an incredible track record. I hated the Winter soldier stuff but then again I hated Doomsday and Dc animated Justice league made him pretty tolerable. thor 2 yipeee! Guardians of theGalaxy could be great or horrible depending and again Marvel has a great track record.

Can't wait to see what they do with the Ant-Man film. I hope they stick with Pym for the movie without portraying him as a psycho. Nothing against Lang, I just prefer the original. It would also be hard for Wasp not to be in it to.

Captain America and Thor sequels sound awesome, loved the first ones.

Guardians of the Galaxy I'm unfamiliar with (I'm a silver-age fan), but given Marvel's previous work, it should be good.

MJB

Yes to Pym. NO to psycho Pym. Give it a rest already. We had a semi-sane version of Pym in the Avengers cartoon. We don't need a big screen version of "crazy Pym".

Pretty much every snippet of actual information we've gotten about the Antman film is that it's going to be Scott Lang in modern times, with flashbacks to Pym.

That said, we haven't actually seen any forward momentum on that film at all for years. Antman was supposed to come out with the first set of movies, and it's still at the exact same place it was five years ago. All that's changed in the last few months is that somebody went into photoshop and made a logo. Seriously, when it is news that they're finally testing out the cgi of the pym size changing to see if it even works (Have we heard about any movie doing that? ever?) I think it's safe to say a movie is solidly in development hell.

What? Size changing? I doubt the special effect people have been doing for 70 years is the problem. I think it's more a master of no one cares about Ant-Man or wants to see a movie about him.

Winter Soldier is one of the best comic book stories I've ever read, so I'm ten kinds of titcited for that. Marvel's movies deserve every billion they've ever made. And though I liked Amazing and loved First Class, I'd love to see them work with their two best franchises. Maybe after Sony and Paramount manage to screw up these reboots as well they'll sell the rights back.
I apologize in advance for everything I say on here. I regret it immediately after clicking post.

You misunderstood me dude. One of the big pieces of news they came out with recently to prove that Antman is actually moving forward was that they were doing mock ups of the cgi for the pym size changing effect. My statement was meant to convey how ridiculous that is, since no other movie has felt the need to share that kind of info with us this early in production, especially with regards to something as simple as size changing.

BWPS

Oh I get what you were saying, sorry about that.

Uh, the news out of Comic Con was that Edgar Wright (the director) shot a test reel for Ant-man.  Not to test the FX work, which was roughly done apparently, but to show how he'd use those FX, and give a sense of how shrinking is actually a useful power for fighting crime.  When you've got the director shooting test footage, that sounds like forward movement to me.

detourne_me

Word is the test footage was pretty amazing. Ant man was doing stuff that he never did in the comic. Apparently one of the big selling points was him running towards a gunman at full size, shrinking down, running along the gun only to punch him in the face then go full size and judo throw the gunman, all in one fluid motion.  People were calling it 'size-fu'

catwhowalksbyhimself

If they can pull that kind of thing off, make the size changing into a fighting style all its own that looks effective, then that would be something I'd really like to see.
I am the cat that walks by himself, all ways are alike to me.

BentonGrey

Cool, that sounds interesting and promising, though, that is the kind of stuff Ant-Man has done in the comics.

Sounds good to me!

But I'm not sure what to think about the live action Marvel tv show. Live action hero shows rarely turn out better than "ok."

I've heard rumblings about what the live action TV show is going to be and if it is then it will work with Whedon's style.  That said, if it is that project then I've got some questions about various parties commitments to the overall project.

Another things I have heard is that Cobie Smoulders has a nine picture deal to appear as Maria Hill.  If you are keeping score, that is the same deal that Sam Jackson signed to appear as Nick Fury.   I know Cobie to be committed to the role but wondering if her being on the cast of "How I Met Your Mother" is going to affect any future projects.

(Before you say anything, think about what the TV project might be.)

I wouldn't mind a Marvel TV show, if it was about the Marvel Universe, and not just Daredevil, or Spider-Man or any particular character specifically.

While an excellent idea, that might be a tough sell to a studio/network, and the general viewing audience.  Both like to have a central cast of recurring characters they can identify with and follow; making it more open ended might not work for them.

Now, if they made it SHIELD-centric, and had different heroes coming in to assist the agents in different episodes (preferably in story arcs, so we'd get to see 2-4 episodes of a particular hero or group), I think that could work rather well.  Thanks to the Avengers (and the tie-ins), the public is aware of SHIELD, and kind of what they do.  Start the series off with Iron Man and/or Hulk, have some cameos by any of the remaining four movie Avengers, and then branch out from there.  An awesome Daredevil/Black Widow episode could be done. While most of the X-Men (those featured in the movies), Spider-Man, and the FF would be off of the table for this (at least without difficulty), there are plenty of mutants and Avengers that haven't been in any of the movies.  I'm finding it hard to think of any heroes that don't fall into one of those two camps that haven't already been done (I'm sure I'll come up with a huge list once I'm done posting this, though).  They could introduce the skrulls, the original Mar-Vell, the Inhumans, AIM, expand on Hydra, etc.  There would be plenty of room to branch out & write great stories.

But, of course, they won't do that, will they?   <_<

Yeah, I had heard that, and it seems like pretty good casting to me.

Apparently, Daredevil is soon going to be back in Marvel's wheelhouse as a movie property.  That seems like pretty good news to me.

I'd still love to see the original X-Men (as well as Prof X and all their villains) in a series similar to Smallville (but better and sticking closer to the comics)...Super powered teens, but in their case hated by the normal humans they're fighting to save.

martialstorm

I think that's a great idea Dana, the seasons could show progressive mutation or development of abilities. Plenty of scope for teen angst as well.

I completely agree.  I can't remember the book, but I remember reading one at earlier last decade when Smallville got big, but it was an X-Men book, Beast was the popular football jock, Angel was your typical rich kid with rich people problems, Cyclops was a kid from a broken home being used.  It almost worked in a concept I'd love to have seen in a episodic format.  They could have done a lot with it.  The X-Men lends towards that format with so many characters, real life themes and stories to tell, it just makes sense to me.
