Xmen Origins Wolverine

All I have to say is WOW. This game is fantastic, a truly authentic Wolverine experience. The wounds and the regeneration is just freaking incredible. I never tired of watching all of his wounds, gapping holes and deep lacerations heal in real time. When Logan gets really torn up, you can see his bones as the muscle and flesh is torn away. You actually watch the muscle tissue regen then the skin and then the wound starts to close. Just like in the movies. The graphic violence is so spot on for Wolverine too, dismemberments, decapitations you name it. If your a Wolverine fan you have to pick this one up.

A movie based game that's good? The End of Days is at hand. Of course, the movie looks pretty hideous, so the game might be the better of the two. I'll have to check it out. Thanks for the encouraging words.

Just got off of my first test run (wanted to see how easily my comp could handle it, so I played through a level or so.) And I gotta say... the game is good. It's a bit hardcore for those only following the movies (he brains a guy in the first fmv, heh) but you know... it's Wolverine. He should be brutal.

I came into this game expecting something slightly better than X3 was(kinda like the movie, heh)... and I was very very surprised. This game is awesome, and even though I liked Wolverine Origins, this game is more then it deserves.

I've played the game some and am really happy that it looks so great,although it is from what I can tell a movie game still very well done.

I just finished playing through the entire game... and I'm ready to play through again. Between the absolute primal joy of just cutting apart your opponents in a flurry of blood and gore (I'm not usually a big fan of gory games, but this converted me. There is nothing more fun then executing a quick kill and... well, let's just say you remove less then the top quarter of a person's body.) and the fascination I get just watching the bullets actually sync with the bullet holes, or gashes with sword strikes, then slowly heal as Wolvie's healing kicks in. I literally could spend hours just trashing infinite enemies in a single room.

That is, of course, not to say the plot is a downside. Even ignoring the sheer wealth of additional storyline bits, such as the creation of Sentinels and Mystique showing up and being pregnant (!), this game even tells the movie's plot line better. For instance, Gambit, who did not speak with an accent or even get a proper fight in Origins, is presented in top form in-game, having been stretched into a full-fledged boss fight stretching through various casinos, through recently constructed buildings, and across flipping rooftops and signs.

Even Weapon XI, arm swords and force beams in tow, is almost bearable because of the game's graphics. Like Wolverine, throughout the battle "Deadpool" takes damage from your various blows, and will teleport away to heal several times while you're fighting. The arm swords, rather then looking like poorly CGIed blobs of adamantium, actually look enough like blades in-game that I didn't even mind them being added.

That is not to say that this game goes over everything though.

For better or worse, the X-kids are never seen (and neither is Xavier, which I think should be seen for no other reason then it's obviously intending to tie into the First Class movie.)

Also sadly missing is Ryan's portrayal as Wade, the character being on-screen for two seconds without so much as a decent 3D rendition of Ryan's face nor even attempt to mimic his voice. Regardless of Weapon XI, Wade's mouth was an important enough aspect to what they're trying to do with this it should have been kept.

That all being said, why aren't you, I dunno... BUYING THIS GAME. Go on people, salvage what little respectability the movies have left you and buy this.

Just played and loved the xbox demo. I had to wait the 7 day waiting period since I don't have a gold Live account (and never will). I was definitely aching for more, but as for buying it, well, I don't know that this one has the staying power. I think I'll go the less honorable route and just rent it. that way I can get my fill of slicing and dicing and move on to something else. Actually, this game reminds me of that Punisher title that had the torture sequences. Great game to play, but not necessarily one of those that'll keep me glued to the gamepad weeks later.

It looks like a keeper, but not for $60. If the price drop soon since Star Trek killed Wolverine in the box office, then I'll pick it up.

If I could rent it I would, but as a PC gamer I'll wait until it is down to $40. The game looks like EXACTLY what I want to play, but I usually only pay full retail for games that I feel have small audiences and that every dollar I spend keeps that sort of game alive.

Lugaru, I feel the same way on the full price purchase- reward the low hype games and wait for the price drop on the bestsellers.

Since Champions is a no go for a bit longer I went ahead & picked up this game yesterday & haven't quit playing till a few hours ago except for the little nap I took - I love all the attacks especially the leaping moves - The pace of the game is what really kept me playing - Just when i'm about tired of ripping baddies to peices, there comes a puzzle or just something cool to do like fight on the back of trucks etc... - The moves are a bit limited but what he has is all he really needs & i'm glad they didn't go over the top with FX or giving Wolvie moves he can't do like an energy slash projectile or whatever - The graphics look great as most Unreal games do, It especially shines when climbing the gigantic tower in the jungle level & looking out over all those waterfalls - Not the best game in the world but, it's fun & it's probably the only good Wolverine game i'll see in my lifetime LoL

There was a great super nintendo game back in the day... probably unplayable by todays standards though, I've never gone back to it.

Good ol' Wolverine Adamantium Rage. Pretty unplayable these days. I guess the SNES version must be slightly different, as the Genesis version was really bad though. Wolverine could turn into a ball (no joke) Metroid style and there was a timer. Don't complete the level fast enough, and Elsie Dee shows up and kills you. I might break down and buy the Origins game...the only Blockbuster near me has merely one copy for rental, and its never in. Oh well, it looks fun enough. I always end up collecting Marvel games anyways.

Thats one thing that kills me about blockbuster. Brand new game comes out and the store has one, maybe two damn copies.

The demo was sweet. The only thing keeping me from buying this is the gameplay time. I read in reviews that the game can be finished in 8 hours. I'm not shelling out 60-70 bucks for that.

That is exactly why I'm going to wait until the Wolverine movie hits DVD. I'd bet a dollar that the Wolvie game will get it's price slashed when the DVD comes out. I really want the game but I don't want to pay $60 bucks for it.

I feel you on the money side but, you can trade it back in next month for 30$ or more store credit (GameStop etc... ) Then pick up Batman:Arkam Asylum for only 30 or less bucks - Anyway I wish there where a couple more outfits to work with - maybe a Patch Wolverine with a crossbow http://www.amazon.com/Wolverine-Classic-Vol-Chris-Claremont/dp/0785118772/ref=pd_sim_b_4 - I never wore that awfull wife beater outfit that he wears in the movies & went with the classic wolverine costume but, that was the only cheat code I used - The cutsceens with dialog didn't express the costume changes but the other ingame cutsceens did which was cool

I'm not a hardcore gamer, but i've played much longer than 8 hours on it. and since the storyline is actually better than the movie (and relates more to the established movie franchise) i wouldn't mind playing it again... plus, I love how realistic they've designed his classic costumes

8 hours going straight through, maybe. Personally, I'm on my second run through, but I keep going back to the beginning to decimate my enemies with my newer skills. I've only recently discovered the different ways to set people on fire... it's fun to watch them run around afterward

As far as costumes... eh. I like his Brown one a lot, but for some reason, the seam on the Classic looks like they went too crazy with the bump mapping.

Well if you have the 360 version, it has replay value for the achievements. I'm loving it and so does Mrs. Jey. She's not a gamer, but loves how real Hugh Jackmen looks. She also like it when his shirt gets shot off. lol!

Ok, Got it for south of $40 and I'm really enjoying it. This is one of those games where the criticism set my expectations low, so they where easily met and exceeded. If I was to guess I would say I'm 1/3 through...

Pros
- Regeneration: enough that you feel super powerful, not so much that you never feel like you are in danger.
- Violence: I rarely list violence as a pro but in this case or the punisher game it feels appropriate.
- Crowd fights: it is great how are being attacked from all sides.
- Animation: very fluid and exciting.

Cons
- Challenges: the game has a few instant kills which will send you to a loading screen that takes way too long. If I'm just going back two steps, why cant the game re-load instantly? Also I hate going from action hero to super mario dont fall in the hole action.
- Moves: I dont get why logan spends half his time spinning in the air. I would love it there was more brawling and less cartoony combat.
- Repetition: I dont know how many wendigos and fire giants I've killed... ugh... if this was an MMO they would at least come in different colors even if it was the same fight again and again.

You fight a lot of them. They not bad because they're easy to beat. It those blue gel-type ladies that are a pain to fight.
