Wow.  You know, this is quite possibly even better than a Disney/Marvel deal.  DC was technically already a part of the Time/Warner media empire, so it makes a lot of sense to keep the film development in-house, as it were.

If it can pull more DC characters out of development hell, it's a great move.

Thanks for the news, Middy!

so , i'm not sure i understood all the article: this is a good thing, right?
they basically realised that the morron who were incapable of writing/shooting a movie in more than 10 years didn't deserved to keep the direction of their project, am i right?
and if so, is it finally the begining of an era of dc hero movies?

Is it possible?  Do the suits actually have brains somewhere in their $100 hair cuts?

According to BleedingCool someone new at WB is now in charge of handling DC. She was responsible most recently for getting the Harry Potter film adaptations. I believe she started either this week or last.

As it stands right now she (Diane Nelson) isn't going to even touch DC Comics, it's just going to fall under the parent company DC Entertainment.  I believe she will also be looking for a Publisher for DC Comics, as Paul Levitz previously held the position of President and Publisher of DC Comics.
She is most definitely a smart lady, you honestly cannot teach a class about media synergy without mentioning Harry Potter.

It's interesting to hear some of the pro's responses to the news though,  Kurt Busiek sounded kinda upset, as Paul Levitz had been a major influence not just at DC, but in the entire comics industry.

Hoping to see another Levitz/Giffen Legion run though >:D

John Jr.

Paul Levitz was partially responsible for almost all DC's big moments on last years. He always invested on creativity, even when he personally didn't like the concepts. So, he will be a hard act to follow.
By the other hand, Levitz is back on the Legion. As a Legion fan I am very happy. Levitz was one of the best Legion writer ever, and, quite frankly, I am not exactly a Geoff Johns fan.
So it's a win and a loss at the same time.

This is probably partially also a response to the runaway success of Marvel Studios.  They want to replicate that, and ultimately it may prove to be a good move.

DC Entertainment Names Executive Management Team

QuoteThe new senior executive team includes Jim Lee and Dan DiDio, who have been named Co-Publishers of DC Comics, and Geoff Johns, who will serve as Chief Creative Officer of DC Entertainment. Additionally, John Rood has been named Executive Vice President, Sales, Marketing and Business Development, and Patrick Caldon will serve as Executive Vice President, Finance and Administration. Each of these executives will report directly to Nelson.

Bruce Timm should be part of the management team.

He really, really should.  He's the only one with experience in this field.

Did anyone catch that Liefeld variant cover? Hooboy! Sadly, I pulled out X-Force number 3 (Amongst Walks A Juggernaught.) today. Why was I so...... blind back then? Page 2 Siryn says she's gonna stop Cain and her cousin. Yet 3 pages later, Uncle Tom (I know) shouts out who he is. Is he a uncle cousin?

If I were Moore or Gibbons, I would take up the "first dibs" offer and write the worst possible comic book I could, retcon the original novel and basically just write/draw a terrible thing to urine off any readers.
I apologize in advance for everything I say on here. I regret it immediately after clicking post.

Yeah, that's gonna be *such* a train wreck.

On a related note, is Rorschach the only one in that image (full image can be seen here) that *isn't* from an Elseworlds story?  There's only 4-6 I don't recognize off the top of my head (blonde green "Robin" in lower right; the one that Bruce Wayne, Green Lantern is battling in middle right; the "Superwoman" and "Wonder Woman" types on the left side; and possibly the Huntress on the left (not sure if she's original or an Elseworlds story) and Hawkman nearby (he looks like he's from Kingdom Come, but not sure)).  Would Batman Beyond be considered an Elseworlds storyline/universe?
