Im trying to locate the grey iron man suit....i believe its the hulking mesh.

In the comics I know there was a grey iron man suit but did the gold suit actually exist or is that like a fans invention....after i started thinkin about i dont recall ever seeing a gold suit when iron man first came out.....anyone have any info on that?
In his second or third appearance someone suggested that it would look better if Iron Man was golden instead of gray, so he wold look more like a "knight in shining armor", as I remember.

It was also a printing issue. At the time, Gray was a pain to print... and it often didn't look very good overall because often the exact shade would vary from page to page due to how comics were printed at the time (using ben day dots). It's why both IM and Hulk quickly shifted from being gray in their first appearances.
Yeah, what Tomato said. I just remember that a character in the comic suggested it to Tony, and he decided she was right.
