Title: Toon Page updates
Post by: SickAlice on November 07, 2014, 11:02:08 PM
On the linked page I put stuff that's linked to well known animated or just " cartoony " in general type things.

Sonic the Hedgehog is on Gren's Makarri. I removed everything except the hands and converted Sonic The Hedgehog from the game Sonic Adventure 2: Battle for Gamecube, added a handle and resized it. Original model submitted by divx2k60.

Note that as usual this is for  :ffvstr:. I know there's a strong desire to have this one in  :ff:. I don't have that game. However, I did save the work files for this one. Just two pieces that need to be weighted to a male_basic and the head needs to be skoped in and the mesh resized. If anyone has the means and motive shoot me a PM and I'll walk you through it (except finalizing for  :ff: of course, not my area of expertise).

Super Sonic is the same as above with a head switch from the same game and an additional run animation which is a copy of the original hover one.

Knuckles is the same as Sonic except a Knuckles model of course and I used Gren's Flashback keyframes instead.

Shadow The Hedgehog is on Makarri by Gren. I removed everything except the hands and converted Shadow The Hedgehog from the game Sonic Adventure 2: Battle for Gamecube. I also brought in two guns from Gren's Punisher which I left unchanged as well added FX to the boots. That effect isn't as profound as I would have liked it but when angling the particle spray it was a matter of going too far in any direction shot it more unnaturally through the body. I of course reworked the keyframes to compensate for the new parts. Thanks to Tomato for advice on how to go about this character. Original model submitted by thegameexplorer.

Miles Tails Prower is on Makarri by Gren.I removed everything and converted Tails from the game Sonic Adventure 2: Battle for Gamecube. I then added a chopped down version of Gren's Nighthawk keyframes and skoped in some keys from TJ's Toad and Gren's Superman keyframes and added values for his tails. Original model submitted by divx2k60 and Doronetty. Thanks to hoss for help with the rotation.

When I was on the site grabbing the model for Sonic there was a really cute one of Q*Bert from the game Q*Bert Reloaded. I decided to bring him in as well for the retrogamers. Q*Bert is on male_basic.

Dr.Eggman's models are from the same game as Sonic. He is on a male_basic frame, his vehicles on INK's Proffesor X. When I tested the vehicles in game my FX where coming off the head. I'll look into this a bit later. * Nvmd. Make or copy FX in the Editor and make the origin assignments the center bounding box.

Captain N is on male basic. I skoped in keys from male surfer and a special from Gren's Taskmaster to emulate his controller moves. I added a jacket from INK's Gambit then remade it into a varsity style jacket. I then made his NES controller, Light Zapper and Gameboy. Bugs: some parts like the hair and collar tend to flicker in CTool depending on the angle viewed at during the surfer keys (hover/fly). I'm uncertain what causes this but tested it in game and no problem there.

Mario was made by converting Nintendo's model from Smash Bros. Brawl to male basic. I then worked in some parts from some of their other games and made some new ones. I resized all the portions and brought in a cape from Ren's Superman. I also gave it Ren's Superman keyframes since they seemed the closest match to Mario's moves. The bug is on the knuckle covers which drag though it's more noticeable in CTool than in game.

Luigi was made by converting Nintendo's model from Smash Bros. Brawl to male basic. I then worked in some parts from some of their other games and made some new ones. I resized all the portions and brought in a cape from Ren's Superman. I also gave it Ren's Superman keyframes then brought in a ranged from TJ's Ghostbuster and worked that and keys for the propeller into every animation. Special thanks to hoss20 for making a spinning propeller. The bug is on the knuckle covers which drag though it's more noticeable in CTool than in game.

Toad is a conversion of a model from Mario Party 8 to male basic. A blue line appears on his face for reasons unknown to me but is resolved by using the texture copy instead of the standard.

Bowser aka King Koopa is on jiksdragon. I made heavy alterations to the nif and mesh itself and brought in parts of a model from Smash Bros. by Nintendo. I also changed the keyframe values to compensate for the new positions. This was about the closest I could reasonably get it. The height was also a judgement call between making the attacks look right and the fact that his size is variable in media representation.

Princess Peach, Daisy and Rosalina are on INK's Psylocke and the models are courtesy of Nintendo with the main bodies derived from Mario Sports Mix and the rest from either a variety of games or myself. There are nine vehicles, seven from Mario Kart, one from Kingdom Hearts and one from Doctor Who. The pumpkin coach is hidden on Peach and Daisy's nifs and takes the place of the Wild Wing on Rosalina's. I imported a driving animation from TJ's Judge Dredd but changed how the arms rest. They all have a variety of game based skins and I gave Daisy and Rosalina new ones for the games they didn't star in as well. I also made Summmer Fun (swim suits) and Disney cosplay skins for everyone and a bonus holiday one for Peach. The weapons and vehicles used switch depending on which skin is chosen. A few bugs here and there though this was largely experimental. The body is female basic compatible.

Yoshi's model comes from Mario Party 8 and is imposed on TJ's Toad. I removed everything except the tongue and change the sizes.

Goomba is a conversion of a model from Smash Bros Brawl to male basic. I added a few more parts for variation. The keyframes are original Batroc keys by Grenadier which I chopped down then brought in keys from Wonderman. The character model was captured by Xerox.

Koopa Troppa was made by converting Nintendo model to Gren's Boomerang. Models are Koopa Trooper from Super Smash Bros Brawl, Drybones from Mario & Sonic Winter Olympics and Hammer Bro from Mario Party 8.  I resized all the portions and brought in a cape from Ren's Superman and made and imported some extras like the torso and mask. I added keyframe information so Drybones can throw it's head. Included are eleven skin variations: Koopa Troopa (green shell) as the standard, Para Koopa Troopa, Super Koopa Troopa, Drybones, Para Drybones, Mask Koopa, Hammer Bro, Boomerang Bro, Army Hammer Bro, Fire Bro and Ice Bro as alts. There are also some hidden extra parts including sunglasses, an 80's cartoon Ninja Turtle head and an 8-bit Mario sprite candy ranged weapon alt. The texture is examples for those are located on the extras.tga in the standard directory.

Sackboy is an attempt to convert the model from LittleBigPlanet to Freedom Force Vs The Third Reich using male basic. The pack comes with wireframes and the original texture. Parts hail from various game series, mainly LittleBigPlanet, Marvel Vs Capcom 3, Deadpool The Game, Smash Bros. Melee, Hyperdimension Neptunia and Project Diva. There are four skin packs. The 2nd and 3rd contain the additional textures from the game. I didn't use the proper naming conventions as I couldn't recall what they all are and just made up whatever I pleased. The Sackgirl (2nd pack) texture aside from the attachments is not the native Sackperson texture. I couldn't acquire that so I made my own and tried to get it as close as I could. The rest of the skin packs are customs I made to show off some off the parts and are as follows:

Skin pack #3: Candy Cane, Cork, Deadpool, Dr.Doom, Frankenstein, Hello Kitty, Marilyn Manson, Mega Man, Miku, Newton, Vanessa and Wonka.
Skin Pack #4: Bear Kuma, Bunny, Cammy, Fresh Prince, Gwen Stephani, Johnny Bravo, Kitty Pryde, Pirate, Rose LaLonde, SaconiƱo, Summer Fun and Tiger.

If you end up checking out multiple skin packs I suggest you don't exceed twelve textures per directory lest you crash your virtual memory. There are additional parts that are not displayed by any texture. The Sackboy directory has premade textures for these and the rest as well as the wires of course.

Amy Rose is on Gambit by Gren. I removed everything but the heirachy and added parts from various game models by SEGA. I also added a second idle to hide the hammer mainly for screenshots.

That's pretty cool.

I think so too, then again probably because I didn't make it the model, lol. He's already running around the danger room beating everyone of the Flash's rogue gallery down.

I forgot to mention sorry anyone that it's sort of chincy. I just tossed this together in about forty minutes so we could have a Sonic to work with.

....... OMG!! Sonic!!!!!!!! I know its early to ask, but can the other characters be done (as in plausibility, not a request)? Would love to see Super Sonic or Shadow? OMG EGGMAN!! Sorry geek-gasming.

Btw, I think the back spines are attached to the wrong node? (or something to the effect). They follow and deform to the arms during animations. STILL AN EPIC MESH!!!!
Title: Re: Toon Page updates
Post by: SickAlice on November 09, 2014, 03:47:01 PM
Ha. It's not too early. So the way I made Sonic there his head piece isn't weighted. That means one could export the 3d model, line up a different one and import it. I did that on purpose so those characters and ones like them could be modded in with ease by anyone. If no one else does it I will ghazkul. I'm already at least working on Dr.Eggman in his first vehicle as well.

Your right about the back spikes. It was a quick job and experimental. I'm probably going to do a version 2 down the line. The spikes need to be separate pieces attached to the Spine01 node is all.

Sonic has been updated to version 2. There is still some vert dragging in the armpits though I usually have that with male basic. It's mostly visible in the pick up animation. It doesn't stick out in game however.

Post by: SickAlice on November 12, 2014, 10:49:18 PM
Thanks. Other than taking them apart and assembling them to work in game I can't have credit here other than Captain N. I've really wanted to make him since  :ff: or at least a Light Zapper in game. His Nintendo swag was pretty easy to sculpt given it's all basic geometry.  I love the Sonic though I have little experience with him past the SEGA CD game. Except the Mega Man comic cross-over and that was excellent. I read the MM comic religiously so the Sonic cross-over part was essential.

Luigi and what not on the way, though easily enough since he's going to share much of Mario's bits. I'm pretty ill right now so I'm going to be less outspoken here though know I'm making good strides on everything. Sorry I didn't add some of the costumes. I looked into the Cloud and Bee ones but I didn't feel comfortable doing them since I'm not very familiar with them.

Thanks both. I'm sure I will. I have a condition that's on and off, just pretty on right now. I just keeping swallowing the medicine and napping. It makes it a little hard to concentrate though (more so the meds as they make me sleepy but the infection isn't helping). It's like nine below zero right now anyways so I suppose this is good timing since there isn't much to miss out on.

Changed Mario's keyframes, repacked and reuploaded.

I noted while testing in game stuff that his object keys had him in a hovering stance. I changed these to the proper ones where he walks on the ground instead.

Post by: SickAlice on December 09, 2014, 09:22:01 PM
Thanks. Hope that breaks for you sooner than not.

Bowser was a massive pain in the sit muffin, not sure why. I should elaborate more since I think it'll come up that the choice of size was determined by placing him with Mario and Luigi and seeing what worked best for interaction. However I did add a handle already. If anyone wants theirs larger just check the Scale of the handle in Nifskope and save it. I think it's .50 right now. Going up to 1.00 makes him about the height of a city tree.

Working on Peach now. Like stated in my site thread I'm going to go big and take my time with this one. I have all sorts of ideas for alts.

Title: Re: Toon Page updates
Post by: SickAlice on December 12, 2014, 04:52:02 PM
Thanks. I can't wait to lay Peach on you people. That one differs from most of these in that it conforms right to female basic. Whereas most of these can be used to make similar characters (Mario-ish on those, Sonic-ish else) she will instead provide a new bodytype, one that's more anime style for users to work with for whatever. I got really lucky with the weighting on both the body and the clothes thus far. As a result I expanded the project to include as many basic clothing articles as I can put into it as well switches for different dresses, hairstyles and weapons and of course for the other Princesses (Daisy and Rosalina). Of all the retrogame conversions this one is easily my favorite so far if for no other reason than how versatile it is. I'm hoping to drop it within a weeks time if everything goes well. Considering adding a run animation switch as well to include kart style vehicle driving though no guarantee since that would increase the time I'm putting in a bit.

My Daughter LOVES Daisy, and if you were able to add in a Kart driving animation, I think she would be in Heaven.

Post by: SickAlice on December 12, 2014, 09:33:03 PM
I finished all of the Peach bits just now, about to add the Daisy and Rosalina bits. I did a test to add a second run that has karts. Worked fine so those will be in the release. Last thing to address will be extras (stuff normally not found in the game characters, like sunglasses and a Santa hat). The mach bike will probably take the most time next to the keys since I have to build it but if I'm having karts then I want that one in cause it's awesome.

Glad they're well received. I put a lot of TLC into these and the devil is in the details. There's a lot of different things depending on which character and skin you use. Sorry I released it so late at night, we had a family emergency here to contend with and it turned into a long day. Good eye spydermann93. Make sure to check out the vehicle on Cinderella.

The FFVTTR textures work very well for Mario-themed maps.  Not sure how deep you're going with this project, but if you were to extract some in-game resources (mostly the unique buildings), I could probably recreate some of the Mario universe maps.

For example:
Paper Mario (N64) Goomba village: http://www.mariouniverse.com/images/maps/n64/pm/pro/goomba-village.png

(Very Rough) Cuba Goomba Village: https://www.dropbox.com/s/31vwfk8t29u41ma/goomba_sample.png?dl=0
Just need to tweak the sand texture a bit and add the house/tree stump

Hey joemama! First off, thank you for your map making tutorial. It helped me with a lot of things. Second I still totally stink at maps, definitely a weak area for me. As it is I'm still only working with my first test map, mostly figuring out how to make custom walls and ramps and such. For video game characters I'm going to stick to characters myself, mostly hammering out some requests.

If yourself or anyone wants to make some maps though I'm sure everyone would be overjoyed. I know the Sonic stuff in particular is a real big hit here (I'd do a ton of those if not for the fact that I'm only familiar with the Genesis characters). The Princesses likewise are for our friends daughter here so if I had a request it would be Peaches Castle. I bet she'd love to have the girls hang out there. Thanks and I hope the season is finding you well.

Thanks. It was fun to put them together and gave me a few laughs. Honestly though glad it's over and I think I'm going to avoid anything that dolly for a bit. I got a little too permeated from it and it started to feel like when I managed the Barbie aisles at a toy store (my dreams took on lemonade hues in other words). Also and not to knock anyone's niche though to affirm my own preferences here, as mainly a retrogamer I had to do much research into those characters and that took into a really excitable and um, interesting fanbase for these characters. Too each their own I guess but these eyes have seen too much and I'll leave it at that. Again really pleased that anyone's kid was happy with this, knowing that improved a rough holiday ten fold.

these are totally awesome! they make me feel like a kid all over again. is there any chance that we will see custom fx for any of these meshes? I was looking at mario and trying to figure out a way to make his fireball, but I don't know what settings to use to make the ball bounce up and down. thanks for all your hard work in making these characters they are awesome!
Title: Re: Toon Page updates
Post by: SickAlice on January 08, 2015, 07:29:07 PM
Thanks both of you. I've been fishing on the FX front, I'd like to see some basics like a Mario style fireball and a ground traveling-richocet shell but I'm weak in the department of making FX. I know in the case of a shell you can assign the end to low node, like a foot, however all my experiments with that glitched (an increasing amount of the FX piled up onscreen). The fireball no clue here either. My guess would be to use an optical illusion where the fireball is spinning and moving up and down a few clicks to give it a " bouncing along " appearance. Hammers and boomerangs should be simple enough otherwise. Again not my strong suit though. I'm putting more effort right now into Black Lanterns (and snow shoveling) but I'll note it for later if nothing else develops in the meantime.

Sorry...I should have posted something about having added the Mario Characters to my FX "To Do" List. I'm just trying to re-do, and finish up the previous batch of FX. It's taking me a bit longer to finish these than I had planned (Darn you Murphy's Law!!! ).

On the other hand, I do have a ideas for both, Mario's Fireball, and the Ground Shell Attack (The Ricochet could be done when setting up the Power in-game). Now whether or not I can actually execute my ideas, that's another story altogether. It's been a while since I've actually played any of the Mario Games, so I'll need a visual refresher before I start trying to make FX for them.

You'll have an easier go than me I think. If you need model bases let me know, they'll just come right from a native game anyways for authenticity so it won't be hard to do. The movement is of course where I get shaky. PM me whenever you feel like giving it a go. Like I said I'm swamped but on the other hand I'm also snowed in for a few months so I'll be on deck either way.

King Koopa has been updated to V.2 by Cyber Burn as to include nodes for the great FX he's working (seriously he has put a lot of elbow grease into those, make sure to give him some applause people). The old file is replaced with the new so you can download it and copy it over the one you have now.

* Oh also I'm still working on Shadow The Hedgehog. The hold up is the gun keyframes and I'm not familiar with what his guns actually look like. Sorry for the delays. I'll get a Tails going as well soon enough, hoss gave me an idea on how to approach the flying animations.

Yikes that preview came out humongous! Fixed now, sorry about your eyes.

Sackboy is...well not really needed I know. This is more or less a parts bin for skopers. As well a decent " short big head small legs " body for anyone that needs that. The head and torso are not weighted so anyone can get away with simply switching the objects out and in. Also there's a male basic version of this on the Workbench. The parts included that are not visible on any of the textures (I forgot to list them sorry) are a jetpack (same one from LBP), a professor hat (akin to a graduation ceremony cap), a french beret, a fez (the hat Abu from  Aladdin wears) and a big Monty mask (Monty model from LBP). Would love to see anything anyone can come up with from this stuff if they feel inclined. It was a nice breather to just do something really random like this.

Not a new addition (though I'm in progress on some things for this page) but I was working with the Sonic nif and noticed a flaw where the feet sink. Amateur mistake I know and sorry for any inconvenience it caused anyone. I uploaded new patched character nifs for both Sonic and Knuckles over the old ones. You should be fine to dl the fixed ones and copy them over the ones your using. Sorry again for any hang-ups that caused.
