Title: Ghostbusters: Trick or Terror!
Post by: BentonGrey on November 02, 2011, 10:38:28 PM
Howdy folks, and a happy belated Halloween!  I was struck with the desire to throw together a quick, one-shot Ghostbusters mod for Halloween, and it took me just a bit longer than I had thought it would.  Still, it's done now, and I hope y'all will enjoy Ghostbusters: Trick or Terror!

Follow our four intrepid heroes as they try to save New York from a Halloween gone terribly wrong!

Happy Halloween guys, and welcome to Ghostbusters: Trick or Terror II!

I'm just BARELY getting this one in under the wire, but I am proud to release the second episode in the Halloween adventures of everyone's favorite spirit chasers, the Ghostbusters!  Join them for another mysterious case as they are called to a foreboding locale and face strange events that just might be connected to their previous Halloween misadventure.

As before, this is a simple, one mission story, but I had a blast making it, and I hope you will have a good time with it as well.  So come on, celebrate Halloween in style, with the kings of creep, the Ghostbusters!

This release includes the original mod as well as the new mission and foes.  You can download the whole thing here:

Good show, Benton. Thanks for continuously providing to the community. Hrm, I think you're trying overtake my mod count now. Calm down.

I'll go ahead and add this to the mod list and make a blog post about it on FRP2.

Thanks guys!  Ha, Prev., I'm pretty sure I'm getting close to overtaking it.  I've just got to get these mods sitting on my hard drive packed up and released. ;)  What's your total?  It's definitely going to happen...one of these days. :D

It was loads of fun, B.  It was great seeing some of my monster Skopes/skins in the game (I wish I had gotten to the Wolfman).  Great work!

One issue though...The talking heads/portraits for the monsters don't seem to show up (when they speak...They're just pink).

Just tons of fun there BG!! I loved it.  exactly the type of mod I needed to get back into the game. Fun, short, EXCELLENT characterization and writing.
Thank you!

I agree, the characterization was great for all the GB guys.

Thanks guys!  That really means a lot!  I was pretty happy with how the dialog came out, and it is really awesome to hear that it 'rang true' to y'all.  The Ghostbusters are such a great group of characters.  They play off of each other ridiculously well, and their dialog just about writes itself.  I'm really glad that y'all enjoyed it!

Dana, your movie monsters are a big part of what gave me the idea, my friend!  I'm not quite sure what caused the pink portrait issue...hmm...I must have screwed something up when I was sizing and converting their pictures.  I got images from the classic movies, and I definitely want those to show up properly.  I'll try to give that a look tonight and post a small fix.

Okay, I'm not sure how I screwed up the portraits for the movie monsters.  From what I can tell they should work fine, but they don't.  I'm guessing it's got something to do with the way GIMP is saving the .DDS files.  Would anybody be willing to snip out some portraits for me?
Title: Re: Ghostbusters: Trick or Terror!

I use PaintDotNet, and I found a (.DDS) plug-in for it. So far, I have had no issues saving to (.DDS), if you send me your (.TGA) files, I'll convert them for you.

Awesome, thanks CB.  I'll have to look into that.  I've used GIMP for this before without incident.  I'm not sure what the issue is.

Okey doke, thanks to a little help from CB, the portraits are all fixed now.  You can get the small patch here:

http://www.mediafire.com/?dd4ac12c80js3ns

And I've updated the link in the first post to point to an updated version of the mod.

Also, I've been thinking about the mod count, Prev.  The DCUG should totally count for more than one.  It has four campaigns and change! :D

It's sounds similar (if not the same) issue I had with my DDS converter (if you recall, BG...I think I told you about it).  It was working fine for years then suddenly every TGA I converted to DDS was pink.

Howdy guys, someone recently asked me if I was going to do a Halloween mod this year, and it occurred to me that I could revisit my Ghostbusters mod.  Would there be any interest in another one-shot Ghostbusters Halloween mod?  I'd probably just do it as a second mission in the same setting and campaign.  Is anybody interested in that?

Take this with a grain of salt because I haven't played FF or mods in a long time but if I ever sat down and played, a Ghostbusters mod would be high on my list to play. So I would be in favor of another level/one shot.

Time depending, I wouldn't mind playing a second mission. Color me interested.

Oh, yeah!  Maybe we could get some "zombies" this time or something!

I really liked the Universal Monsters homage last year.

Sure!  I've got a very rough concept in mind, but if there is anything that you'd particularly want to see, feel free to suggest it!

Thanks Winters!

How about a crossover between the Ghostbusters' universe and the Marvel Zombies' unverse?

I'd be more interested in seeing a crossover between Ghostbusters and Zombieland (who didn't want to see Bill Murray use that proton pack on a bunch of zombies once he was running around in the old costume?).. but I can't wait to see what BG comes up with.

Haha, yeah, I don't think I'm up for a Marvel Zombies crossover.  I know nothing about the setting...though I suppose there isn't that much to know.  I have a rough idea that is beginning to sharpen.  We'll see what happens. ^_^

When it comes to Ghostbusters and zombies, I recommend everybody at least try to read IDW's Infestation: Ghostbusters #1-2 comics!

Thanks for the Ghosbusters mod for  :ffvstr:. I just played it for a bit and it doesn't seem to continue. After I destroyed the Mummy, I'm asked to destroy the next one. First I destroyed the structure, then the 'dino-man' then the wolfman and all black ghosts on the level. And I would expect that there would be a cutscene then, there was not.

So then I started looking for more ghosts to get rid of, PK-scanned the civilians and all had 'gene damaged', so destroyed them as well. And also the ghost/civilians that where thetered to each other. Still the game seems to be stuck on this level.

Any help?

Okay, I seem to be getting the hang of this mod-playing business in  :ffvstr:

First rule, don't use save games mid-level. They seem to screw up the level continue.
Second rule (at least for this mod). First destroy all ghosts, and wait untill LAST to destroy the structure. Or else the level will not continue.

So from now on, I am just saving in between the levels when playing mod's. Just hope the levels won't have a playing time that's a bit too long.

Hey! I played a mod! It was pretty neat. Tough at first, but I got the hang of it. The worst is when the group starts shooting each other! Ha ha.
After finishing the two levels, the game started the mission briefing for the first level of FFvsTR though, heads up!

Ha, hey Unko, that's awesome!  I'm really glad that you enjoyed it, and I'm thrilled that, when coming back to the game and playing your first mod in a while, you chose one of mine!  :D

"Don't cross the streams!"

Yeah, that's a function of how I build my mods.  I've had trouble with mods that are short, so I just put the regular campaign after mine, which keeps the game from freaking out.

I'll confess... I played a few levels of your Pulp Adventures mod before this one, ha ha.
Ahhh, so nothing broken then! Though, on the second mission, there's a switch that appears to be missing a texture? Not game breaking, just something I noticed.

Pulp is great! I love pulp characters, and it's cool to see them interact Wold Newton style.

The switch in question was just before the
Spoiler
first room with the goblins
if that helps?
