Title: Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions

The Noir version reminds me of Batman: AA.  Any guesses what the other 2 dimensions will be?  I'm thinking one of them is a Venom/ evil version of Spidey.

A little too much if u ask me. Still interested in seeing where are they going with this.
I`m betting Spiderman 2099 is one of the remaining two.

FWIW and IIRC, in the animated series, the alternate spideys were
Scarlet Spider (not a clone in TAS)
Metal suit Spider-Man (kind of an Iron Man type, known identity, rich and famous, kind of a dick)
No-power Spider-Man (from the real world, an actor who plays him on TV)
Spider Symbiote (kind of a freaky Carnage type, he tries to obliterate the universes from existence)

None of those sound too great. Noir Spider-Man is really awesome. This game has promise, it'd be nice to play a really good Spider-Man game.

This looks pretty good, having different gameplay for the different dimensions is a nice idea.

A futuristic gameplay with Spider-Man 2099 would make sense for another dimension.

I would really like a Spider-Girl dimension (although the gameplay would be pretty much the same as normal Spidey), but I have a feeling they'll go for something like Spider-Man 1602 instead.

1602 Spidey would be too much like 1930's spidey.  I'm thinking a 2099 and and alt universe like Spidey as a kid or Spidey with 6 arms

You're actually missing two.

Six Armed Spider-Man--mutating into a Man spider form, he possesses six arms
Octo-Spiderman--Spiderman possessing Dr. Octopus's arms.

Also Scarlet Spider was Ben Reilly, who was believed to be a clone, but was actually the original.  The revelation drove the clone mad, causing him to become the Spider Symbiote.

None of which has any bearings on this game, which shows great promise.

I'm weary of this game. It seems like an odd gimmick. I would have prefer they try to take the character back to his roots and pull off a Arkham Asylum style game. But we'll see, this could very well be cool.

I'm guessing one of the alternate universes will be House of M.

2099 version could fly kinda right?
Well I guess thats what they'll go with for one of the worlds.
It seems like the game wants to highlight various styles of gameplay... we'll have a brawler with amazing, stealth with noir, probably a flying/shooting element with 2099, and jeez, probably another symbiote version for the fourth... gamemakrs just cant stay away from the blacksuit.

This kind of reeks of the latest sonic games where he becomes a werewolf with stretchy arms.

I hink 2099 could glide actually, and had poison claws. Great character, and it rocked having him as an exile.

Who know's who the next two are but you know what would blow my mind? Marvel Zombies spidey.

At first this seemed kinda sketchy. I mean the plot seemed kinda thin. If there is a seriously decent plotline this will be fantastic! I think the aspect of different style of separate games, with intertwining plots, all rolled into one game is a fantastic idea...on paper. This seems like it would make a cool comic book idea. You know, that parallel plot line sorta thing. I'm excited!

Pre-order the game from Gamestop and you'll get Cosmic Spider-man for each dimension.  Looks like one of them is from Spidey 2099 era, but I can't figure out who the 3rd spidey is.  Any Guess?

http://www.destructoid.com/spider-man-shattered-dimensions-gets-cosmic-pre-order-169487.phtml

Update: Rumors has it that the 3rd on is the Symbiote.

I was just about to guess that. That kinda bums me out. The 2099, i guess i can see as a good idea...maybe, but we have had SO many symbiote based spiderman games already.

There have been a few good "evil spidey" what if stories where the symbiote took over. Maybe that will be the "hardcore" dimension with assassin spidey.

Which is funny because 3d, swing round, beat people up spidey games predate all those games. Heck, in my opinion Arkham Asylum ripped of Wolverine a lot despite everyone calling Wolvie the ultimae "derivative" game. Arkham is better one at the end of the day, but extremely similar. Other than going completely left field (the Hitman series) there is little you can do with 3rd person action.

Honestly I regret that there is no mention of my favrite and highly original mechanic from past games (starting with Sega Genesis I think) of alloing you to take photos. I love in game tourism and takin pictures has alwas gone well wth the character.

With something like this they should have DLC with different type of Spidey

Ugh I HATED the Iron Spider outfit.  Even the Spider clone one was better than this and that one involved a sweatervest.  Still, I see they left off the three pointless appendages that made him look like a wounded spider at least (7 legs?  Really? Geez...)

Glitch Girl, hey now, it was a ripped up hoodie, not a sweater vest. There's a difference.

A sweater vest is something Mr. Rodgers would wear. A ripped up hoodie is something a band trying to recreate the magic of 90s alternative music would wear.

Another alt skin: Click (http://www.comicsalliance.com/2010/06/08/spider-man-shattered-dimensions-iron-spider-captain-universe-costumes/)

So far: Iron Spider-man (Amazon) and Captain Universe (Gamestop)

Let's hope they go about this better than they did with the MUA offering. I'd hate for this to run out of "exclusive codes" or only be available online for a month without warning.

Doesn't it seem unfair that if I get the GameStop preorder I get it for all 4 different realities, but the Amazon Iron Spider is just for 2099 (why 2099???).

I like Iron Spidey costume more as the Scarlet Spiders look than as a Spider-Man costume.

It must be carnage theres no other symbiote what fits that figure closer than carnage.

Venom is always too bulky to look like that... it kind of looks like the bonus costume for carnage on MUA2 (i saw the bonus costume on another site.)

So the final Spider-Man is actually Ultimate Spider-Man wearing the symbiote suit. Interesting choice. And of course Deadpool is in it.  :D

I heard about it late last night/ early morning.  In one hand, I like it and on the other I don't because it seems like a coup out.  They wanted to go one way, but people didn't like it so they said "It's this spider-man with this...."

Me being a HUGE Spidey fan, I'll get the game anyway.

The voice cast is pretty cool, though I wish Christopher Barnes (TAS Spider-Man) was doing the Amazing Spider-Man rather than Noir Spidey. Josh Keaton (Spectacular Spider-Man) as Ultimate Spidey is a good choice.

Really cool to see NPH returning for this. Can't remember if I liked his Spidey on the MTV show though.

I am pretty pumped for this. I probably won't play it for a long time though. I just recently started playing Web of Shadows and holy smokes... web action is great. They've come a long way since the last Spider-Man game I played.

I'm a bit disappointed that black suit spidey is the final character though. Ultimate and regular Spider-Man are basically the same, and I'm so over seeing the symbiote, which I've always hated. 2099 was rad and the noir Spidey looks great, so why not some other crazy choice? How about Spiders-Man from Earth X? Or Unlimited? Or, actually... I would have loved to see the Indian one.

Anyhow, this still looks freakin' awesome. And I would totally play a Spider-Ham game.

I've got it! So they want to use Carnage right? And have a symbiote suit?

How about Amalgam's Spider-Boy having a symbiote crisis of his own, with Bizzarnage somehow involved, of course. Now that would be awesome. Heck, he could even gain the suit a bit of the way into the game so at first you can play standard Spider-Boy, then later have all those suit powers.

I was looking at an article about the alternate costumes on Marvel.com (http://marvel.com/news/vgstories.13567.smsd_alternate_costumes_revealed) and it states that all are unlockable by playing the game, except for the Captain Universe costumes which are a GameStop exclusive. The other preorder exclusives just unlock the costume early. So if you're planning to preorder then GameStop would seem to be the best value.

I'm looking forward to playing as the Scarlet Spider.
Title: Re: Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions
Post by: Mr. Hamrick on September 13, 2010, 02:03:57 PM
Rented and played the game over the weekend.  Glad I didn't buy it but it's a good rental game.  I rented the game for two days and was honestly bored with it by yesterday.  Played through 7 of the 14 levels and a few of them twice.  Got a bit frustrated with The Deadpool and Scorpion levels and stopped playing.

The Good.

The Noir levels.  I'll probably be in the minority here.  The Noir levels are rather inventive and pretty cool.  Only got to play two of them, though.

The bosses...  Well, some of the them.  Hammerhead is actually challenging on his level till you figure out what to do to beat him.  Deadpool is as well, still haven't beat him.  Sandman was an interesting fight too.

The graphics... except the 2099 level.  Even the 2099 level looks pretty but there are some serious visual issues compared to the other levels.  The other three worlds are distinct visually and the Amazing levels feel like you are in the panels of the comic books.

The costumes... 12 different ones including the main four.  This is not including the Cosmic Spiderman that was a GameStop exclusive.

The Bad
The costumes... despite there being 12 different ones.  You can only play certain costumes on certain levels.  Not really bad per se but I suspect many will be disappointed.

The Camera... especially on the 2099 levels.  Got really bad on the Scorpion level specifically.  However, it's a pain on other levels too.   You can't always control the camera on the levels.  This includes things like being unable to adjust it to see where you are going on the Sandman level at one point and the camera jerking around on the Scorpion level to the point where it is potentially dizzying.

The controls.  Certain controls in the game make no sense.  To some extent, they vary from universe to universe.  And there are various points where certain abilities quit functioning and you don't know it until you try to use it.  This is usually the web jump (or whatever its called) so its not a big deal but there are other times.

The audio.  I will go into this more below.  Madam Web gets annoying after a while.  So do some of the other characters.

The UGLY
The 2099 levels are dizzying.  Particularly The Scorpion level.  Visually, they are pretty but playing through them is visually an eyesore at several points because it's hard telling where things are (on the scorpion level) because there is so much neon going on.  (Think neon backgrounds and neon markers for targets.)

The reliance combos.  Not really a issue but kinda annoying if you are not good with them.  I had the same issue with Batman: Arkahm Asylum.

THE AUDIO!  This really started to urine me off on The Scorpion level.  Madam Web and The Scientists started repeating stuff over and over to what seemed like EVERY 10 SECONDS or less.  The camera made this worse.

I HATE THE 2099 LEVELS!!

I'm a huge Spidey fan so I pre-order from Gamestop so I could have the Captain Universe Spideys and I like the game.  If you guys are looking for a Web of Shadows or Spidey 2/ 3 then you'll be disappointed.  Right now I'm fighting the final Sandman boss, so I'm 2/3 into the game.

I was mostly interested in the 2099 levels too and if they aren't any good...not much chance I'll be getting the game. Also what JeyNyce said about it not being comparable to Web of Shadows...pretty much killed any chance of me buying it. Web of Shadows was a blast to play.

I wouldn't rule it out entirely guys... while I would agree that 2099 is meh in terms of design and playability, the noir levels are fantastic... kind of like the spiderman version of arkham asylum. The only true fault I have with it is that I bought it at the same time as birth by sleep, and in comparison it's very lacking

Played through the first chunk of Amazing versus Kraven and wow, I haven't felt nauseous playing a game in a long time.  The controls are not fun at all.  Web swinging from pillar to pillar is just plain frustrating and those yellow indicators not only look horrible but they seem useless.  I'm glad our library shares console games because there's no way I would be happy paying for it.  Since it's free, I'll try it out some more :P

Hopefully the controls will be more forgiving using keyboard and mouse when it comes out on PC.

I recently finished Web of Shadows and I did really well with that game completely avoiding the target system and all that crud. Unfortunately the final boss battle forces the target system on you pretty often and I was suffering like a console player, swinging around and attacking the foes the computer picked (usually the last one I would have chosen too).

It's much worse on the 2099 levels than the kraven levels

I don't understand the hate on this game... it's not a great game (web of shadows is far superior imho) but it's decent... and besides, it features spiderham!

No hate here.  Much love have I for this game.  Oh, and as he himself says in the actors' interview, Dan Gilvezan rocks!

No hate from me either.  It's not Web of Shadows, but it holds it own.  I just hope they have some DLC later on.
