Title: Young Freedom Squad
Post by: UnkoMan on October 09, 2009, 10:18:44 PM
Soooo... I made a little suggestion in the game. See, I love themed teams. And it is neat to see a group of characters grow with each other. I know that's hard. People play all different times. They do different things. And, heck, you can't have a million teams.

Still, I think it'd be cool to have one themed team.

Then I see this new Celestial power set they got coming out. Well I had a hero I used in CoH a lot, who both healed and harmed people through radiation. He was a good natured but sickly kid who, unfortunately, got cancer (not to mention a million other things wrong with him). The doctors decided to try an experimental radiation treatment and, low and behold, he was cured. Of everything. He could finally live like a normal boy, but then something even better happened. He developed super powers. Having had not a lot to do but read comic books, he was enthralled with the possibility of becoming one himself. Thus, Chemo Lad is born.

He's also the sort to want to start a super hero club. Okay, it's a bit more LoS than Teen Titans, but still... Young heroes welcome. Anybody interested in something like this? It probably wouldn't meet even once a week or anything. I'm not a very hardcore gamer, and I do lots of other stuff, after all, but I'd really be interested in this.

I am just wondering if anybody else would be.

I am going to make him either way, probably, but if other people wanna discuss this then feel free.

I was thinking GogoStar my gadgeteer would be good for a TT styled team,  I could make a blue alien girl too if it's more LOS :)

I'm in.
:)
Once I get home from holidays I'll make a young hero (yes I check FR while I'm on holidays).
Unko, any chance you could post a costume file for that teen body you made?

Sure. He's pretty young though. But enlarge the body a bit and shrink the head and he gets older!

Tell me if that file doesn't work for you. I haven't tried this just sharing the jpg thing yet.

how many people do we have so far? >_> and if 5 or more when can we meet up to get a SG setup?
and then, again, uniform? :P

I have an idea for a young hero...but it'll have to wait until Blood Moon comes out so I can use the Celestial powerset.

Okay... it's official. I need more costume slots on "Valandar". :P

Regular Costume; Civvies; FS Group Costume; Golden Age; Silver Age; Kid Valandar; and Armored. Oh, and Mirror Universe Valandar, where he's "Eeeeevil." :P

I, too, need to wait for the Celestial powerset to do Chemo Lad.

As to a uniform, I wasn't thinking a standard one was needed. If we did want a uniform I'd like something that we could change the colours of for each person or something incredibly simple like an X-Man training costume... but I probably wouldn't use that anyhow.

And, sheesh Val... just make some extra characters. You know you want to.

Sheeesh.

So, hey, what do you think a good name would be? I'm seeing this as a more innocent, original Legion origin. Like a club for kid super heroes. Unless you guys want to go somewhere else with this? Feel free to make whoever, of course.

But, yeah, name... name...

I quite liked something along the lines of young freedom personally

I'm good with it.  "Junior JSA all the way!"

I haven't been able to come up with a good idea yet.  I'm toying with the idea of a fire guy.  Fireball Boy?  Something like that.

Young Freedom
Young Freedom Force
Teen Force
Teen Freedom League/force

or any combination of the above.
Can't wait to get to my PC and make a teen hero to join the fun.

I made mine last night, "Polar Prince."  He is a young prince of the people that live within the Antarctic glaciers.  He came to Millenium City to learn more about the surface world.  He saw great injustice and decided to use his ice control powers to hlep mankind.  Right now he wears his princely garb, but once out of the Canadian crisis zone he will adopt a tradiational super-hero costume, maybe.

So, who is going to form the supergroup?

More names:

Junior Freedom Society/League
Teen Freedeom Society/Leauge
Legion of Super-Teens  :)

I'm loving these concepts so far!
I can see Chemo Lad, and Polar Prince as a nice core to the team.
I just had to create a new teen hero to join up... and well every team needs a Wolverine/Timberwolf type character so I present to you Landshark!
A 15-year old juvenile delinquent from the Sharkworld, His parents sent him to Earth with a Champions contact in order for him to learn how to control his temper and his powers.
He's got fighting claws right now,  And I might change the costume a bit, maybe earth tones, and I want to give him a fatigues uniform too! heh.

As for the team name I think Young Freedom sounds the best

I like the blue and yellow costume.  Looks pretty cool the way you have it.

I meant to upload the pics of my Robin-esq teen hero "Kid Raven," (Blackbird?) last night, but I forgot about it.  Still, he's made, and he's definitely in!  This fine young man is the son of costumed adventurer Red Raven (although apprently the name filter has a problem with the word "Red").  I'll post pics of them this evening, but he's a martial artist very much patterned after one of my favorite characters of all time...Dick Grayson! :D

Ohh, I love the shark boy DM!  Landshark is a fun name, too.  Ever seen the PvP series of strips where they play CoH?  Heh, they've got a Landshark among their number as well.  I like the costume, although I think bracers and clawed hands might look nice instead of gloves, and maybe some fins on the legs.  It would be good to bring his skin tone out a bit more in the costume.  I like the blue and gold color scheme, but I think it could bear experimentation.  Ha, I love the idea of a shark-type Wolverine character!

Stargirl!  I like the costume, Cas.  She looks like she could have shown up in the Incredibles.  She's got a good, solidly simple look.  Where's she from?  An alien visitor?

I like Chemo Lad Unko, and it's a cool concept.  He's got a striking look.  I'd be interested in, if not a costume, at least a basic design that would provide some general ideas for a shared look.

Cool characters. Glad to see people so pumped. Ha! I even got Stargirl in my Champs updater picture. I've been getting friends' heroes in there instead of my own. Is that an update or something?

Anyhow, this makes me excited. I almost want to start a temporary Chemo Lad (fire powerset, I guess) just to play a little, but I am steadfast. He needs heal or harm powers. Speaking of, anybody want to take on the 13 undead heroes to get that set early? I suspect I will play a lot on the days before the 30th/31st (because I will be at parties come real halloween).

Landshark is cool, and a great concept, but I can't help seeing those colours as "costume default." I think earth tones would suit him a lot more. A nice brown, maybe a blueish green? Still, it is a cool character.

Anyhow, Young Freedom it is. Or maybe The Young Freedom League, if you guys like that. I like the word "league" for kids. As to a group costume, how about some sort of training garments, like:
Spoiler
(http://img50.imageshack.us/img50/4820/traininggear.jpg)or(http://img94.imageshack.us/img94/6248/screenshot2009101417440.jpg)
Then you tune the colours to match your character's costume?

I think Polar Prince would be opposed to joining any group wearing "training costumes".  He is a prince, after all.  He may conceed that a more super-heroic costume is in order, but his would relfect his nobility.

So, here is Kid Raven at last:
(http://img99.imageshack.us/img99/6435/cokidraven.th.jpg) (http://img99.imageshack.us/i/cokidraven.jpg/)
And here is his adventurous mentor, The Crimson Raven (or Red, if the word filter ever gets un-weird):
(http://img399.imageshack.us/img399/9849/coredraven.th.jpg) (http://img399.imageshack.us/i/coredraven.jpg/)
The Crimson Raven is Hallam Erran, a successful novelist who started out spinning adventure tales without much success.  Finally, he happened upon his first and greatest success, a masked superhero named, surprisingly enough, The Crimson Raven.  Eventually, he grew tired of simply writing about characters that had grand adventures, and donned the Raven's mantle to experience the thrill of costumed crime-fighting himself!  Being a responsible father, he eventually allowed his son to join him on his adventures.  Their continuing efforts to hide their dual lives from Mrs. Erran are quite epic in and of themselves. ;)

@BentonGrey
Sweet designs! I love the idea that you have a Batman/Robin pair,  but the trouble is, you can't play with yourself (...er 0.o)   Maybe we should team up,  one of us builds a hero, the other builds a sidekick!

Also, I should check out those PvP comics,  I had a feeling that Landshark wasn't as original a name as I thought.
I'll give him other costumes,  probably more of an aquamarine/brown colour scheme.  At first I was going to give him the scalloped armor w/ claws for hands and feet,  but it was going into villain territory,  he shouldn't look too scary, and besides, sharks don't have claws, just big flipper-fins. maybe if there are 3/4 length shirts and pants he could have bare hands and feet.

@UnkoMan - I am so down for freeing the 13 undead heroes early - i really want the mask, and to try and get some of the other unlockables.

As for the training costume? it's a cool idea, the original X-men styled one is fine.

She's half human. Her father (a charcter still to be made) comes from a different planet. His people look human and have several genetic characteristics that make them compatible. But the difference is of course that they naturally developed abilities far beyond any normal human. A planet of super-beings and they've been that way for millenia. They live in peace and have no conflict or war. But they exsist at a stand still and there is a level of emotional detachment. He left to study different galactic cultures and fell in love with Earth...and an earthling in particular...something extremely uncommon amoung his people. She (a character yet to be made) is one of the strongest Psionic minds in the world and was a superhero for a short time. She gave up adventuring to help people in need all over the world by volunteering and acting as a "specialist" in conflict resolution for the U.N. That's the short outline I have for know. Now...two more...Stargirl's 16 year old brother and sister. Twins
Technostar - Alex Sharpe (Genius, telepath, technopsionic) [Gadgeteer and Telepathic build]

And here is his adventurous mentor, The Crimson Raven (or Red, if the word filter ever gets un-weird):

"Red" isn't filtered- I just created (and then deleted) a character called Red Guy, as a test, with no trouble. It's probably the combination of "Red" with "Raven" that's the problem. There's an old (pre-)Marvel character named Red Raven, maybe the name was on a list of names that can't be used that Marvel supplied them with or something (although, seeing some of the names that ARE allowed, it would seem strange...). Have you tried calling him "The Red Raven", with a "The" added? That might work...

Hey folks.

I guess most people already have their kids made, eh? Well I made Chemo too (as a fire guy, which is actually pretty sweet) and he's sitting at level 12 right now. Just wondering what level other people are, and when is a good time for folks to meet up so we can start this team?

Personally, I'm more busy on weekends than anything. Birthday party tonight. Rocky Horror tomorrow.
But some time next week would be good, if we can get five people together.

Doesn't have to be night... for me, anyhow. Lots of afternoons are good for this fellow. I don't know what that is for everybody else.

I am Mountain Standard Time in North America, by the way.

EDIT: Okay, maybe not Monday. Gosh, this week is getting filled up with things to do.
