Sorry I disappeared at the end of the semester! I got behind because of having to spend endless hours investigating possible AI cheating, and then I just couldn't get caught up until the end. It's bad in education right now, guys.
Nothing good comes from a.i. We learnt that in the 80's. Sorry to hear you've had to waste time on that problem as I bet it's a very time consuming job by itself. I hope you managed to sort it.

I just read a twitter about a teacher who doesn't give homework anymore. He makes the kids do all the work in his classroom. He said solid A's turned into B's and C's.

Thanks, guys. Yeah, it's pretty crazy. We've got an entire generation of students who are desperate to cheat their way out of actually receiving an education, and many of them are succeeding. It makes me quite worried about the future. Bearded, one of my colleagues has done that. It's basically the only way to be sure. I've resisted it so far because that eliminates the chance for the deeper learning that happens pretty much only through writing and reflection, but I may have to make the same kind of move. It's absurd. Our detection tools are very imperfect, so I often spend an hour or two, or even more, investigating possible AI instances. I think fully a quarter of my composition students this last semester used AI to cheat in one way or another.
