Title: Saturday Morning Adventures Prep
Post by: BentonGrey on March 19, 2024, 01:20:23 AM
Howdy folks, I am starting the early stages of my Saturday Morning Adventures mod, just doing some collection of materials so I can hit the ground running this summer when I actually have time to work on things.  I'll use this thread to start gathering.

Here is the Doc for my collaborators:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1PSxCDK6fICqZlrExydkR4cGupbFsp5TPWcMbpeqYKj8/edit?usp=sharing

And here is the Mediafire folder which we can use to trade files.  I've gone ahead and uploaded the skopes that need tweaking for Mondo Gecko, Krang, and Leatherhead.

I have not seen Agent Bishop, and I only saw models of Bucky O'Hare characters, not converts.

Benton, as I said in the message I replied to, hit me up with what you need and I'll help where I can.

No Bucky O' Hare seen here either. The only models out there I saw was him, his ship and a toad ship. Maybe Dean or SA can help if they're available.

No Agent Bishop that I know of, but maybe Dean with that, or I could try to make him with the Sims 3 creator - he doesn't look to strange to do.

This was an interesting character. I liked this version of TMNT from 2003.

I'm going to do some purple dragon thugs very soon. Will just be some randoms though.

Awesome, Dean!  Yeah, that's all I need.  I'm not going to do anything major with them, mostly just use them as a source for lore-appropriate cannon fodder.  I might tie them in to Mondo Gecko's intro, but randos will work just fine for that.

Okay folks, I've added some links in the first post for the people helping me out.

This is what I have for the Galaxy Rangers;

https://www.cgtrader.com/3d-print-models/miniatures/figurines/galaxy-ranger (https://www.cgtrader.com/3d-print-models/miniatures/figurines/galaxy-ranger)

And Bravestar;

And a Berbel I don't have;

https://www.cgtrader.com/3d-print-models/miniatures/sci-fi/berbils-thundercats (https://www.cgtrader.com/3d-print-models/miniatures/sci-fi/berbils-thundercats)

There's not a Snarf in FF yet, but I have a file for him. He might be hard to reduce and use though

Since they're stl images, I would have to reduce the polycount quite a bit and setup simple textures for them after breaking them up into pieces. Alternatives would be just taking the heads for the humans and putting them on standard bodies so they could use FF skins, or have someone skope them together

Others on your list;

Giant Krang - should be easy just to enlarge him in nifskope or Blender

Leatherhead and Mondo Gecko - maybe moved on onto the Spiderman villain Lizard mesh for animations, unless you can think of something else that would fit

Captain Planet - If you can get a hold of Windblown to get his Planeteers released. There are stl filed for most of the villains out there.

Toxic Crusaders and Tigersharks - Just done recently by Dean

You're the best judge on how difficult it would be to import them.  They should be relatively easy to skope, as their designs aren't too complicated.  Goose would definitely go on the gunslinger mesh.

I know Dean did 30-30, but didn't he do Bravestarr too?

Cool, I had no idea there would be a model out there for these little robo-furballs.

I'm really surprised there's not a Snarf yet.  That's definitely one we'll need.  I'll add him to the list.  He should be a relatively simple mesh, I'd think.  Maybe SA can do him when he comes back.  He might be skope-able.  I think the real challenge is the body.  I feel like there is something that would work; I just can't think of it. The head and ears could use existing elements.  Since he's not really an action character, more like a civilian, animation variety won't be much of a problem.

Style, what do you think?

Quote from: Randomdays on March 21, 2024, 01:33:55 PMGiant Krang - should be easy just to enlarge him in nifskope or Blender
Indeed, but the issue with Krang isn't just enlarging.  I've actually done that with Nifskope, but it made his keys rather weird, and I would also like some giant-style keys for him.  I think the solution will be to port his skope pieces and skin over to a Giantman mesh, but I am open to ideas.

Quote from: Randomdays on March 21, 2024, 01:33:55 PMLeatherhead and Mondo Gecko - maybe moved on onto the Spiderman villain Lizard mesh for animations, unless you can think of something else that would fit
Leatherhead: Leatherhead's skope and skin are from Daglob, so I'm looking to preserve them as much as possible.  He's currently built on Bishop, I think, which provides his gun anims.  I'm not sure what's compatible with that.  Interestingly, it seems that Daglob included a Max file for him.  While I'd like to have more melee options for him (and more bruiser-ish options at that), I can deal with his keys as is.  The most significant issue is that his tail is too long.  I assume that could be shrunk in Blender?

Mondo: SA made a custom mesh and some custom keys for him (he's got a nice tongue attack).  Once again, I'm not sure what keys would be compatible that we could draw from, but there's probably something.  I would like someone to do some experimentation for me.

Toxic Crusaders and Tigersharks - Just done recently by Dean
Read my mind; I already sent WB a message.  We'll have to see if he'll get back to me.

As for TC and Tigersharks, I did indeed see Dean's awesome work.  Their inclusion is purely down to whether or not I have time to build their characters.

I just heard from SA, and it seems like he's probably out for the foreseeable future.  I'm going to try to see if he can send me the pieces he had in progress, but we'll have to manage without his skills for the moment.

Haha, Spyder, that's perfect.

Dean, those guys look amazing!  I love the human Bebop and Rocksteady!  I am ABSOLUTELY going to have to put them in the mod now.  I was just going to work around their human forms, but that's too awesome to pass up!

The rest of the Dragons are looking perfect!  If you can give me a couple of options for random skins for the rank-and-file, that'll be excellent.

In other news, I heard from Detourne_me, who is going to take a look at the Transformers keys.  We're making progress, folks!

Style, RD, with SA out, we will need a Party Wagon (Turtle Van).  What do y'all think in terms of options there?  I've added an entry on our Doc with some reference pics.  It seems to me we should be able to skope something together.

Benton, if you check my main thread, Cranlox just linked a turtle wagon.

Plus, I already have one in files. Probably from dm's turtle files on his backup site.

Yep, in here...some good cannon fodder too.

RD, sheesh!  I knew I had missed some TMNT stuff, but I had forgotten how much amazing stuff y'all have imported and created!  And I somehow completely missed Cranlox's post of the Party Wagon!  Well, that's one down!  I'll experiment with the mesh, but my guess is all that I'll really need is someone to rig some weapon points on the guns and missile launcher.

In that case, Style, RD, what do y'all think about Wingnut and Screwloose?
Title: Re: Saturday Morning Adventures Prep
Post by: Randomdays on March 23, 2024, 11:07:40 PM
Don't forget to look at the other wagon - it might be ready to go.

I'll have to look at those guys and see. Probsbly Dean or Style might be better at that.

Post by: BentonGrey on March 23, 2024, 11:33:47 PM
Thanks, RD.  Yeah, I checked it out.  I think Cranlox's is a better fit, more like the cartoon, which is the aesthetic I'm mostly using.

Cool, we can each play to our strengths in this.

New question, folks: What has been made for Thundercats?  I know we've got all the Cats (I think we even have the three new ones), as well as Mum-Ra and the Mutants.  I think we're missing Vulture-man, or rather, he has been made, but the skin/skope has been lost.

Do we have the Lunatacs or Hammerhand's crew?  I can't check my files right now, as I'm traveling.

Awesome, RD!  Yeah, I had Vultureman, but I apparently lost him somewhere along the way.  Please do send him my way or upload him to the Mediafire folder.

Huh, I guess those busts could actually be pretty handy for building those characters.  I'll add the team to my list.  They aren't necessary for the campaign, but I'll include them in the secondary, 'for completion' category.

How much is Hammerhand?

Dean, Bugman?  Ha, how cool!  That's actually a Turtles character that I didn't remember, and there ain't too many of them!

What are the Shredder clones from?  I haven't seen them before.

The Pizza Monsters!  That is such a great and memorable episode!  I was actually planning on including them, probably as some Dimension X monsters that come through a portal during the Baxter/Fly arc, but I was planning on using the Xenomorph mesh with a yellow skin (I think that exists).  This guy looks great, though!

Howdy folks, it is the end of the semester, so I am in my usual grading deathmarch.  Grades are due tomorrow, and then I'm going to sleep for a few days.  After that, I'll be back and can get to work on the mod!

RommyNa, I'm putting together a super-mod featuring a ton of 80s cartoons.

RD, yeah, Foxx is the only other one necessary, though it would be good to have some of the Queen's troops to put them up against.

The map section looks interesting.  It might be useful for cutscenes, even if it isn't really usable for missions.  I assume those individual pieces would just be part of the map, hmm?

Hey everyone!  Sorry I disappeared for a bit. We had a crisis in my division right at the end of the semester, and we've been dealing with the fallout from that.  Fortunately, I think things are under control, so I can actually start enjoying my summer now, which means doing some modding!

I'll be finished with my update of Pulp Adventures soon.  After that I plan to finish the TMNT campaign and start adding in tons of characters.

RD, can we do 60ft?  If you're shifting the skope to a mesh that can use various size keys (like one of the giant meshes), we can dial it in.  I'm looking to adapt this episode of the classic cartoon:
https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/tmnt/images/e/e8/Krang_%28S%26S%29_2.png/revision/latest/scale-to-width-down/400?cb=20140528162337

I'm thinking, kaiju showdown, with two of the team taking the Turtle Van and Turtle Blimp out to slow down giant Krang, while the other two go inside to disable his android body.

If the rerigging works, I can probably due any size. Unlike size changing in nifskope, I don't think there will be any speed change in the animations using Blender.

Of course, if the rerigging doesn't work(as sometimes happens) it wouldn't matter.

I'm going to look at some of the kfs that go with some of the giants. I think having a "fist(s) smashing the ground" attack would fit Krang.

RD, sounds like a plan!  Yeah, some good 'giant style' attacks are what we'll need, and at least a couple of ranged anims.  If there's one that could work for eyebeams, that'd be good, but I can work around the ranged stuff, most likely.

Alright, I've finished the draft of my Pulp Adventures update, and now I'm getting to work on SMA!

Hey folks, this feels like the kind of thing that is out there somewhere, but does anyone know if we have any soda can 3D objects anywhere?  I'd like to use them in making FX for the Rat King and the Punk Frog archer Rasputin.  In a perfect world, I'd like a can with a few different textures to add flavor (pun partially intended) to the different attacks.

Curses: I thought the Punk Frogs were completely ready to go, but it looks like Genghis Frog is using Gren's Hogun the Grim keys, and, weirdly, they've only got four melee anims, and there's no mace combo (a knife combo instead).  Does anyone know if anything is compatible with those Gren Hogun keys?  If I can import a few other options from somewhere else, we'll be good.
Found it!  Apparently AA's Aquaman skope has some compatible keys from some Gren mesh, though I'll be darned if I know which.  I think I've got what I need.

For the two I did, I just made some simple skins from pics I found on the web.

I'm not familiar with the character - what type of cans did he use? We could probably come up with some things like Campbell's soup or various sodas from web crawls

It looks like the can objects have nice, simple textures.  It should be pretty easy to make something fit it.  The characters uses soda cans of various descriptions, so really, anything would work.  It's not like the details will be particularly visible in game.

Okay, here's a weird one: Leatherhead's skope seems to work great in game...except I can't click on him.  I have no idea what's going on.  He's acting like an FF1 object without a bounding box.  I've uploaded him to the working folder:

Anyone have any idea what might cause this?

Oof!  Ha, that's terrible, PG!

Hey, here's a quick question: does anyone know of any starfish FX?  I want to give Ray Filet the "throwing starfish" from his toy.

Here's something more substantive: I've got Mondo Gecko almost completely set!  It turns out, SA is more of a genius than I expected.  He set everyone's favorite skateboarding reptile up to work with male_basic, so I had all the animation choices I could want.  This leaves only two real issues.  First, he doesn't have a melee_idle, so there's not a neutral position that will reset his board to his hand if he goes from, say, riding to punching with an imported key.  This leaves the board on the ground, which really doesn't look too bad, but comes with its own issues.  I don't know if this is possible, but if a skoper could manage to make a melee_idle deal with the board, then the anims would be pretty seamless.  The last issue is that his "run" animation has him riding his board, which is great, but it has him hovering a bit above the ground, which can look a bit awkward.  In the same vein, the board is bigger when he's standing on it than when he's holding it.  Unfortunately, that version of the board isn't visible in Nifskope, so I don't know how to fix it.  I don't know if those things can be tweaked, but if they could then I'd say he'd be about perfect.  I've already been able to import all the animations I need, and I've got him built.

For a starfish, you've got the "male_basic_starro" I think its called. The starro should be able to be removed and used. Someone else would have to make it an fx though.

I mentioned the board sizing on the other thread.

Call me psychotic but in my case, and without rush I make most of the effects for each character I add to my Freedom.
In the case of the video, they have most of the game's fx. I know they don't look bad, and that it's faster.
But it always calls me to personalize it. I uploaded my 1931 hero files of all the characters I made and the effects and sounds folder to my mediafire.
If you want to grab something from there you can grab whatever you want.
Precisely of these characters I only used Mondo, bebop and Rocksteady.

Howdy folks, quick question: I've added some cool sci-fi pistols to Dean's awesome rock soldiers to fit the Dimension X theme, and I think they look pretty good.  However, the pistols are too shiny.  I'm assuming that this is because the only texture they have is "sentinel blaster".  I tried copying another textures refl and glow textures and renaming them "sentinel blaster_glow", etc, but it doesn't seem to have worked.  Am I missing something?

Translucent or transparent?

For transparent, check in nifskope to see if alpha channel is turned on - on the materials tab for the nif, move the alpha channel slider higher and lower and see if it changes anything. If it does, move the slider bar to 0 and it should be solid.

If translucent (shiny?}, try moving specular color to the bottom left corner of the triangle and move the glossiness bar to the left.

Thanks for the response, RD!  Yeah, they are partially transparent, or translucent.  The can and its color and design are still visible, but you can see the arrowhead underneath.  I changed the Alpha slider to 0.00, but it doesn't seem to have changed anything.  It was set to 1.00.

Krang: That is a really cool model, but since the Krang we have was one of the last things created by Daglob, I'd like to keep that one, if we can.
Title: Re: Saturday Morning Adventures Prep
Post by: Randomdays on June 26, 2024, 05:58:07 PM
All right Benton. Keeping the original Krang

On the arrow, are you sure you selected the material for the can part of the fx, and not the arrow part?

Each would have its own lighting and settings.

I may have gotten the slider reversed, but either way, one end should make it completely solid and the other completely invisible.

One other thing might be that its inside out. Right click on the can in nifskope and a popup should open. Select "mesh" and either "face normals" that should automatically try to make the polys right side out, or "flip normals" that will turn the polys opposite of what they are.

If nothing works, send it over and I'll take a look at it. It may needed to be joined in Blender

Thanks, RD.  I appreciate it, man.

Can Arrow: Okay, I tried those ideas, and it remained transparent, but I figured it out...though I don't know why this worked!  I didn't have this problem with my first draft, and I realized, I had copied the can object to the scene_root, rather than to the fx itself.  In the second draft, I attached it to the FX branch.  Something about that seems to have made it show up transparent, though I haven't a clue why.  Fortunately, just putting it back on the scene_root seems to have fixed the problem!  Weirdly, I also put my soda-pop grenade for Rat King on the fx of the Nazi grenade, and it worked fine.   :thinkingidea

Howdy folks, I think I may have found pretty much the perfect solution to Rat King's minion needs.  Check out this mechanical warhound mesh, made from the wolf mesh.  I think with a rat-ish skin that gives it a rat tail and makes the plates and spikes look like bone or something, or maybe even armor, this would work great.  What do y'all think?

Hey folks, here's a new one.  I'm starting work on the TMNT vehicles, and fortunately, I've got all the assets I need.  However, I'm trying to replace the Turtles on Daglob's Turtle Blimp with the new meshes I'm using, and I can't quite get them to take on the poses of the Turtles already there, no matter where I paste the new ones in.
(http://i.imgur.com/r1MUDLAm.png) (https://imgur.com/r1MUDLA)

On a similar note, I'd like to use the "Inner Being" attribute to allow the Blimp to detach the Glider, which could then operate on its own for a limited amount of time.  The Blimp itself hexes out of the Glider nicely, but the fins on the back are actually attached to the Glider object.  Any suggestions?

Here's Lion-O's Thundercats Ho! FX (complete with sound clip from the show!).  The Thundercats symbol only lasts for a second, and I'd like the ground FX to trigger first.  Anyone have any ideas?

Could you send that my way, DR?  You can send it to username@yahoo.com

Hey folks, working on the MOTU characters, I'm finding several of them need key tweaking.  I'm starting with Beastman.  He's got killarilla keys.  Does anyone know if anything is compatible with them?

Also, thinking of everyone's favorite shaggy doofus, what might make some good beasts for Beastman to summon?  I just watched an episode of the 2002 series where he called on gargoyles, and I think we might have something around that could do for them.  What else?

Hey, does anyone have TMX's old Marvel/DC RPG conversion chart for FF?

Thanks, guys, some good ideas!  The DnD beasts could probably serve in some fashion.  I'm thinking the Hook Horrors look rather Eternian.

Maybe shadow beasts?:
https://he-man.fandom.com/wiki/Shadow_Beast

They would fit perfectly on the shurale mesh, just needing a darker-furred skin.

Yeah, I see what you mean about that Teela, DR.  Thanks for fixing the skope for me!  She looks good, but she wouldn't quite fit in with the other meshes and skins.

:Edit: Also, thanks for linking to that Write-Ups site! I've been having a devil of a time finding concrete info about the abilities of these guys, and this is perfect!

Ah, I see.  I have that same Beast Man, but I must have a DM skope, where he put the fellow on the Killarilla mesh.  That's a good fit, so I hate to lose the whip keys and such, but I don't know if anything is compatible, so I may have to.  Good to know I have another option.

There is a beastman imported by DM that is great, I have that one as my favorite.
I owe you fx if you can remind me which ones! he would be great.
I could upload something to this Shadow beast to put a skeleton on it, I was with a similar ape from Star Trek that RD liked.

Cranlox, is that DM one the one with the whip and the Killarilla keys?  That's the one I was talking about.  I like it too, but it doesn't give me many animation options for building his HF.

FX, here's the list: https://www.freedomreborn.net/forums/index.php?topic=56643.msg838004#msg838004
Thanks again!

Shadow beast: I know the one you're talking about, but I think the FF2 shurale is a pretty perfect match for these guys.  I think all we need is a simple recolor of the skin.

Super minor update, but one of the things that had me a bit stymied before the semester started eating my lunch was He Man's Beast Man, who I had a several really lovely art assets for, but each one was lacking something necessary to build the characters HF properly, wither melee keys or ranged keys.  My favorite of the versions was only had a throwing anim for ranged, and also didn't play nicely with anything else.  Well, I finally found a solution!  I imported an animation from a set of keys that distorted the mesh, but in this particular animation, the distortion isn't very noticeable, and I think it looks pretty great!  We're back on (a very slow) track!

Okay folks, my He Man setup is pretty close to done.  I'm trying to round out Beast Man's summonable beasts, and I'm not quite happy with what I've got for a quick, flying monster.  What do we have out there for flying monsters?  Are there any wyvern-esq meshes?  I'm pretty wide open, so throw whatever you've got at me, and we'll see if I can make it work.
Title: Re: Saturday Morning Adventures Prep

A pterodactyl, a giant scarab, a wasp, a hornet, a dragonfly, bats, a dragon (I think...Val?), Sauron from the Hidden Land, Sam the Eagle with lots of different skins.
Title: Re: Saturday Morning Adventures Prep
Post by: BentonGrey on January 11, 2025, 11:26:14 PM
Thanks, RD!  I think the pterodactyl would arguably the best fit, especially if it has any funky, fantasy skins.  Can you send it my way?

:EDIT: Actually, can you send me the scarab, bats, and the dragonfly as well?  I should have those.

On another, more long term note, I've got a huge set of amazing G.I. Joe skopes from Style, but some of them aren't working for me.  I suspect that the issue is that our amazing skoper built them for FF1, but they have parts from different meshes, so they don't properly convert using the EZ Nif Converter.  I know there's a way to fix this problem, but I think it's a bit out of my depth.  Does anyone know how to do it, and would they be willing to convert these for me?
Title: Re: Saturday Morning Adventures Prep
Post by: Randomdays on January 12, 2025, 01:27:24 AM
Oh, and I forgot a vulture (bird, not villain).

Everything I did should be on the megasite - Scarab, bat, pterodactyl, vulture, and dragonfly.

My bat is from Scooby Doo. Bevo did one too - I put in my request folder

On Gi Joe...

Possibly. When I talked to Style about these a while back, he didn't want them released because he hadn't kept notes on who he skoped the pieces from, and wasn't sure about permissions. Have you checked with him about those?

IF so, it might be easy as putting them into Blender and back out again, even though Blended sometimes csn't work with some skopes either.

Post by: BentonGrey on January 12, 2025, 01:42:07 AM
RD, d'oh!  I should have checked your site to begin with!  I was poking around everywhere else instead. :P

JOE: Yep, Style sent them to me specifically for me to use, and I have his permission to use them in the SMA mod.  If I sent you the skopes with issues, could you see if that would work?

It may be possible to solve this by moving the pieces with nifskope to another base mesh. And I did some gijoe skopes a time ago that you can use. Also, Gijoe is a franchise that interests me and I'm open to doing more Skopes.

Title: Re: Saturday Morning Adventures Prep
Post by: Randomdays on January 14, 2025, 02:49:08 AM
Broken Joes -

Its going to be slower than I thought. So far...

I didn't see anything wrong with the Air Chariot?

Airborne - too many errors for Blender to run

Breaker - Errors on output from Blender - I'll see If I can figure out what the problem is

Baroness and Mindbender - fixed, but on export a lot of the scoped pieces lost their attachment to the main mesh and I had to move them back to their proper positions. These two are done.

Title: Re: Saturday Morning Adventures Prep
Post by: BentonGrey on January 16, 2025, 03:24:47 AM
Thanks so much for fielding this for me, RD.  It's a huge help.  Poor Airborne.  Hopefully Style will be able to remake the skope for  :ffvstr:  eventually.  Nonetheless, that's MUCH better than it was!
Title: Re: Saturday Morning Adventures Prep
Post by: Randomdays on January 16, 2025, 04:55:05 AM
Finished with the rest, except Breaker. I think I got it figured out.

Most were just using Blender to place the skoped pieces back where they belong.

Of the rest- a total of 3 wouldn't import to Blender.

Wrapping it up soon

Edit - Break fixed

Hey folks, I'm thinking about doing the Silverhawks after I finish He-Man.  To do that, I'm going to need some help with FX, as I need dual laser beams for their shoulders to match the cartoon.  I've messed around with single beams, trying to double them, but they never come out parallel, instead firing in different directions.  I've also played with existing dual beams, but I haven't gotten those right either.  Anyone willing to take a crack at it for me?

Thanks, RD!  Yeah, I forgot about that episode.  That would make some sense.  I was thinking something humanoid, robotic, and ground-based, to allow the Silverhawks to fly around them (keep the Hawks feeling special).  The concept doesn't necessarily have to be directly drawn from the show, just some canon fodder that would "feel" right.  I feel like something appropriate exists, I just can't place it.  I was looking at some robotic options, and Tommy's LMD Cancer is in the ballpark:

Can anyone think of other somewhat generic robotic henchmen we could paint red?

Also, thanks for the link, RD: those pieces are going to be super handy for portraits!

The young Diamondhead is not a robot but it would be usable, if they use that imported original base it would also be nice to have it unmodified (although the great absentee from Ben10 is the villain Ghostfreak who is by far the most original and interesting thing in the series) besides that DiamondHead is another one different from the one Dean made. I sent you a message Benton with the fx

Thanks, guys!  The Robot Rebel one is actually pretty close in terms of aesthetics, really fits Mon*Star's feel.  I think the skin is a little too cartoony-looking, but it's the right idea.  That might work.

WF, any of Val's robots in particular come to mind?

His Battlepod and Invid meshes might function as robot minions with some skin work. Might need to be sized down as well.

Syn's gear master and gear slave might be possibilities as well.

Awesome work, Dean!  I LOVE business Casey, haha!  That is a great episode.

Cryin' Hound!  That's another I can't believe I'm seeing!  He looks great!

Can anyone send me Val's Battlepod and Invid meshes that WF mentioned above?  I'd like to check those out as possibilities.

Hey folks, does anyone have the Thunderkittens, Willykat and Willykit?  I thought I had them, but I can't find them in my files.

Yes. SCD did just about all of the Thundercats. Wingzero did them as well, but his versions are a little older with chains on their wrists.

Kittens posted in the request area as kittens.rar
