So in last year's version of this thread, someone spoiled Walking Dead for me. So I'd like to ask that you all refrain from doing so in this thread. If you want to include it on a list you should just list it by the episode title and/or number.
I honestly don't have too much to add to this, but I guess I'll throw my two cents in. ;)
Best Movie
Kubo and the Two Strings
Best Series
Luke Cage
So I have to ask: what about the first episode of Luke Cage made you want to watch the second?
Because his tastes differ from yours and many of us actually really liked that series? Because all art is subjective and opinions can differ wildly based upon background and personal history?
Just saying, you're free to dislike something, but don't be a jerk to someone else for liking it.
Movie: Deadpool
Series: Game of Thrones
Actor: Ryan Reynolds (coin flip between him and Grant Gustin; Reynolds won the flip)
Actress: Melissa Benoist
New Series: Stranger Things (the only other show listed I've watched is Timeless, and I gave up on it after 2 or 3 episodes.....)
Cameo/Special Appearance: Spider-Man (Deathstroke was a silent stuntman, so...meh.)
Scene (Movie): Airport Fight from Civil War
Scene (Series): Battle of the Bastards from Game of Thrones
My pics...
Best Movie
-Rogue One: A Star Wars Story(I'm a fanboy. What can I say.)
Best Series
-Game of Thrones
Best Actor of 2016

Best New Series of 2016
-Luke Cage
Best Cameo/Special Appearance
-Princess Leia(Rogue One: A Star Wars Story)
Best Scene(Movie)
-Darth Vader's boarding party(Rogue One:A Star Wars Story)
Best Scene(Series)
-Daredevil hallway fight(Daredevil)
Animated kinda got the shaft here :( No Zootopia, no Kubo.

Hey 'Mato, that seems like a fairly legitimate question; no need to get so defensive, my friend. I had similar trepidations about Cage when I started the show, though I eventually came to love it.
Wow, clearly I need to watch Kubo! I thought it looked really neat, but it's interesting to see so much love for it.
Good thread!
Here are my picks:
Best Movie
-Captain America: Civil War (hands down!)
Best Series
-Daredevil (also hands down)
Best Actor of 2016
-Robert Downey Jr.
Best Actress of 2016
Abstain
Best New Series of 2016
-Stranger Things (the most hands down of all, just...all the hands, down, completely)
Best Cameo/Special Appearance
-Spider-Man (Captain America: Civil War)
Best Scene(Movie)
-Airport Fight (Captain America: Civil War, though, Vader's is a very close second)
Best Scene(Series)
-Daredevil hallway fight(Daredevil)
There have been some truly great movies and shows released this past year. There's been some terrible disappointments too, but it's still pretty amazing that we got films the likes Civil War and, despite its flaws, Rogue One., given the profitability of lesser movies.
Mostly because the post is not a question about Luke Cage. "Did it actually get better after episode 1?" would have been a question about Luke Cage, but the way it was worded felt like it was asking about kkhohoho's character rather than about the show.
But ANYWAY, back to the topic. Here are my picks (I'm sticking purely to stuff that came out/premiered in 2016)
Best Movie
-Captain America: Civil War
Best Series
-Luke Cage (this one was close, but DD season 2 had too many flaws, and the CW shows aren't quite on the same level this year)
Best Actor of 2016
-Ben Affleck (Movie was garbage, but Affleck's performance was one of the best aspects of it)
Best Actress of 2016
-Scarlett Johansson (CA3:CW. Gal Gadot is a close second, but she just didn't get the screen time or show off the range to edge out Scarlett)
Best New Series of 2016
-Luke Cage (TBF, I have not yet had time to hop on the Stranger Things bandwagon.)
Best Cameo/Special Appearance
-Superman in Supergirl (Don't get me wrong, Spider-man is a VERY close second, but I'm just so happy to have a decent Superman in SOMETHING.)
Best Scene(Movie)
-Airport Fight (CA3:CW)
Best Scene(Series)
-Final showdown with the Dominators (Legends of Tomorrow. Again, not going to count the hallway scene, as it's from 2015)

I didn't critisize anything about the show, I'm just interested in hearing someone else's opinion on it.
EDIT: If I had said "does it get better after the first episode" it would be a presumption that others share my opinion of the first episode, which is not something that should be assumed.
Fair points about the timeline, 'Mato. I forgot those were from the previous year.
Ha, how very true about Superman. I should probably watch that episode for that reason.
Oh wait... guess I wasn't specific enough with my thinking...
It was the rooftop-to-hallway-to-stairwell-to-staircase-to-basement scene from season 2. That scene.
Sorry bout that.
Glitch Girl, I hear you about the animateds and I agree. I was thinking about a separate category, but I hadn't seen enough to say, but again, you're welcome to add however you wish.
Tomato, really like the way you think, bruh.
Ouflah, you might want to check this thread (http://freedomreborn.net/forums/index.php?topic=56740.0) out. We specifically started discussing Luke Cage here (http://freedomreborn.net/forums/index.php?topic=56740.msg801591#msg801591), but you'll probably find this portion of the discussion (http://freedomreborn.net/forums/index.php?topic=56740.msg801725#msg801725) more relevant, since Benton shared much the same opinion about the first episode.
I haven't shared my opinion yet, but I'll check out that thread, thanks!

The world would be a much nicer place if people lived by what they are preaching. :)

Okay, none of that, now. This thread is a fun little rating project with no room for that.
What?I was just agreeing with him there.
So I looked at that topic-- I think my question was misconstrued to be related to the nudity in Luke Cage, which it wasn't. I wasn't specifically referencing any one flaw that I found in the first episode with that question.
I did not misconstrue your question. You did seem to talk down to hoho about his particular taste, which you obviously did not share. Whereas if you read the thread, Tomato referenced, Benton did indeed express his displeasure with the same episode you pointed out without any rancor at all.
Fact is, if you didn't like, you didn't like it. This thread is full of stuff I don't like. It's full of stuff others don't like too. But just because I don't watch Supergirl or certain animated features don't mean others don't watch and enjoy them.
It make sense to be critical of a show. But being critical of someone's opinion is something entirely different.
<walks in, sees drama and quietly backs back out>
I apologize, I had no intention of causing any drama. Let me try to clarify myself.
I never made any judgement on hoho's opinion. I did not talk down to him. I only watched the first episode, so my only point of reference for discussion is the first episode. My own judgement of the quality of the first episode is not relevant at all to this discussion. I was asking someone else what drew them to the second episode, instead of stating why I was not drawn to the second episode.
In hindsight, my interest in hoho's thoughts could have been expressed in a clearer way-- but understand that I passed no judgement on anyone.
Fair enough. I think that's a good point to end that on (though I would invite Ouflah to ask any questions he has over in the Luke Cage thread), and move back over to the discussion at hand.
Sadly, I don't really have too much to add to my original post. I agree with GG about animated films being represented, buuuut... I didn't watch either film this year. It's sad, since I have every belief I'd enjoy them both, but to be fair, I also haven't watched Rogue One. As for the hallway scene, I had a feeling you meant the staircase one, but it was also clear most people were referring to 2015's DD Season 1 scene.
Yeah, I was thinking of the 1st season scene, though the 2nd season one was also pretty amazing.
Thanks Tomato but I think I'm done with questions for 2017, apparently I'm rather inelequent at it. :P
I'll add my two cents here.
Best Movie
Civil War
Best Scene(Movie)
Airport Fight
Best Series
The Flash (it's the only one on the list that I've watched all the way through, so I suppose I'm biased haha)
Best Cameo
Superrman(Supergirl) (made me want another Superman tv show)
Yeah, ikr. I'm over here like "Supergirl-Superman-spinoff show in 3... 2..." #crossesfingers
And again, folks I just want to clarify like Jey said last year and as GG and hoho did earlier, you are completely not limited to the nominees that I listed. I was going off memory, what I've seen and just trying to generate ideas of all we've seen this year. If there is something else a Best Actress or Film or whatever you think stood out, feel free to add as you wish. It's your opinion that I/we want to hear.
