Title: Costume Rating 89: New Wasp

In the current Avengers comics a new Wasp has been introduced, Nadia Pym, the long lost daughter of Hank Pym and his first wife. This is her costume:

I would have to give this one a strong dislike. There's just so many things that to me, are totally wrong about this outfit. The shoulder boards and the skirting seem totally dysfunctional and to me, pointless. The headgear isn't too bad, but it looks a bit awkward and bulky. Personally, I think they should have streamlined it a lot more. Looks too much like an anime character to me.

Dislike. Way too busy. Would have preferred black and yellow color combo too.

Don't mind the character, gave a hard dislike to her costume. As others have already pointed out, it's just too busy.

That said, I don't mind the Red/Black motif for her, and hope they keep it whenever someone has the good sense to simplify that mess... For one thing, it feels like a return to a classic era Wasp (as silly as that costume was) AND it makes more sense given that she's not connected to Janet so much as to Hank. PLus, it gives us some visual distinction when the two are together (since as far as I'm aware, Janet hasn't actually stopped being Wasp as well)

What happened with the yellow/black ensemble one of the Wasps was sporting awhile back?

First wife?  *sigh*

2, Dislike: Anyway, this is, as others have said, way too busy and overly ornate.  I like bits of it, and I think the basic aesthetic could be cool.  It seems way more like a design from a modern Flash Gordon comic.  I mean, really, it looks like it could have come out of the pages of Flash Gordon: Zeitgeist.  It just doesn't really seem 'superhero-ish.'

I had to go with a very soft dislike, only because of those shoulder and thigh pads. Otherwise I think the design has a lot of potential. I quite like the helmet, the colour scheme is good, and the parts around the gloves look neat. I think one more revision on this and I'd be pretty happy with the design.
For what it's worth the design seems to be toned down in the actual comic art. (http://static7.comicvine.com/uploads/original/11112/111123579/5214592-all-new%2C+all-different+avengers+%282015-%29+009-006.jpg)

I haven't had the chance to read any stories with this new Wasp yet, but I'm quite interested. From what I've heard and seen she seems like a neat character.

Which one?
Janet's current costume (http://static1.comicvine.com/uploads/original/1/14487/5299862-wasp.jpg). Janet is also active with a different Avengers team.
Her previous regular costume. (http://static8.comicvine.com/uploads/original/11112/111123579/3289612-uncaven2012012008-col-copy-270ee.jpg)
There was a temporary future one around the same time. (http://vignette2.wikia.nocookie.net/marveldatabase/images/2/22/Janet_van_Dyne_%28Earth-13133%29.png/revision/latest?cb=20141203035505)
And the costume she wore through most of the 2000s. (http://vignette2.wikia.nocookie.net/marveldatabase/images/a/a3/Janet_van_Dyne_%28Earth-616%29_020.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20080601213433) She's gone back to it once and awhile too.

Maybe we'll do some more Wasp costumes one day.

TBF Benton, I feel like it's their attempt to bring the MCU Wasp into the comics, without making her Janet Pym's daughter and having to kill Janet (we JUST got her back). This way, she has a lot of the same emotional baggage with her mom being dead, but without having to deal with yet more Hank/Janet baggage on top of the existing pile we already have.

Frankly, I like what I've seen of her. She was introduced in All New Avengers (which features a lot of younger heroes already, such as Miles Spiderman, Nova, and Ms Marvel). The book has issues (see every plotline involving the Vision in any capacity), but I like the focus being on secondary characters... Iron Man's about the only A-lister, and he's not exactly on top of the world atm.

I've done a couple of those.

I suppose one more bad choice on top of all the other bad choices hardly matters at this point, whether or not the immediate result is good or bad.
