Title: John Carter: What Might Have Been
Post by: BentonGrey on July 06, 2015, 02:47:18 AM
Holy Hannah, why oh WHY couldn't we have gotten THIS John Carter of Mars movie rather than the one we did?:

It looks simply amazing, and MUCH closer to the original story. I would kill to see this movie get made, especially by Kerry Conran (of Sky Captain fame)!

Wow, that was beautiful!  I would even like to see a movie done completely in that art-style.  Simply gorgeous.

How much does this differ from the most recent film? I haven't seen that film, so I can't really compare.  I've heard bad things about the movie at worst and only mediocre things about the movie at best.

I've yet to see the John Carter film, but I was sad to see it bomb royally at the box office, since that probably kills enthusiasm for adapting other Golden Age & Silver Age pulp works like Edgar Rice Burroughs stuff or Turok or Magnus: Robot Fighter.

My assumption was that the brand is a tough sell in 201x, where the sci fi genre has become so saturated.  Where did the film go wrong creatively?
