Next DC animated film Justice League: Throne of Atlantis will adapt the crossover comic series by Geoff Johns that sees Aquaman going toe-to-toe with his fellow superheroes.

Sounds good
I'm super excited about Aquaman getting his own movie, especially since I'm still annoyed that they cut him out of the JLA adaptation. I can't say I care for the random black pants in this design, though. I don't understand why the folks who make these movies feel compelled to reinvent the wheel with every project. They've chosen a good story to adapt, though, and I look forward to it.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I got the feeling you didn't read many modern mainstream comics these days, especially something done after DC's big Nu52 reboot.
IIRC, Benton's been reading Aquaman pretty religiously (I don't know if that's still the case... I dropped it after Didio's BS, so I haven't been checking the thread so much) and I doubt he let an entire Aquaman-related event slip by unnoticed.
And btw, benton: they're not quite black (http://i.toynewsi.com/g/generated/DC%20Comic%20Toys/DC_Collectibles_Solicitations_February_2015/DCA_ToA_AF_Aquaman__scaled_600.jpg). It's just that screencap.
'Mato, you'd be correct. I gave the New 52 a shot, JLA, Flash, and Aquaman, and I eventually dropped them all because of various shades of terribleness and/or stupidity. My final thoughts on the first two books are here:

I dropped the last book, Aquaman after Didio's incredibly imbecilic comments about marriage, just like 'Mato. I have kept up with the book and read them on loan after the fact, though, so I know what's going on.
'Mato, I can't see your link, it doesn't seem to work. I saw a set of action figures based on these designs, and they looked black as well. Is it just really dark green? That's still silly.
I'd say this film looks interesting, mainly because Aquaman infrequently gets the spotlight, but considering how bad Justice League: War and Batman & Son were, my hopes aren't high. The animated New 52 just hasn't been very good so far
War wasn't terrible, just... eh. It worked for what it was.
also: http://toynewsi.com/news.php?catid=10&itemid=22908 that work better?
Yes 'Mato, that works. I see, they are just dark green. That design is still a minor but unnecessary departure from his current, really excellent look, and I really don't care for Mera's redesign either. Still, if the movie is good, I'll quite happily live with the changes.
I'm fine with the costume, but I'm not big on Aquaman's face. It doesn't look right for a King, seems like a face and hair more suited to Nightwing or somebody young.
trying new designs doesn't bother me. Artists are creative people, they want to try different things. It's actually surprised me how long many of the Golden and Silver age characters kept they're iconic looks.
I haven't seen JL War yet but I do like that they're making a series of these movies. I guess something resembling Trinity War/Forever Evil would be next?
I bet we'll see a Forever Evil movie. That was a pretty big deal.
I see what you mean about the face, Pod, but I think it's just the art style, which I'm not crazy about.
Well...here's a behind the scenes feature on this movie:

I can't say that any of this sounds particularly good to me. The description "A hero defined by anger, rage," really illustrates a complete and total misunderstanding of the character, one that has plagued him for way too freaking long at this point. After his father dies, Arthur Curry spends his time brawling in bars? Yeah, HEROISM! Hooray for postmodern cynicism. I really enjoy a story about a character learning to be a hero, but that just doesn't sound anything like the character I love. It sounds like the rageaholoic Namor-lite that haunted DC for a decade and we've only recently moved past.
I want this to be good. I REALLY want this to be good, but pretty much every time the folks behind it opened their mouths, I found myself thinking, "who gave these people control over the DC movies?" I found their description of the team dynamic of the JLA particularly enlightening, focusing as it did on how they can't get along for two minutes at a time and how that was their favorite element. I like some tension and repartee, but come on, there's more motivations than selfishness and arrogance. These people are heroes, and they should darn well act like it.
As for Aquaman, I hope my fears will be unfounded, but I can't say this fills me with much hope.
After watching the behind the scenes, I think they are going to jam 3-4 hours of story telling into a 1 1/2 - 2 hour movie and they are going to leave out some stuff. It still might be a good movie, but I wouldn't go in expecting the same stuff that you read in the comics.
Trailer is out

Looks good
The trailer looks pretty cool, but the portrayal of Arthur still has me worried. Also, the monkeying they're doing with his origins makes me nervous.

Benton, be more excited. For once in Aquaman's miserable fictional life he doesn't seem lame.
