Title: Downloadable Manual for FFX?
Post by: UltraSuperGuy on March 25, 2014, 12:43:36 AM
Just wondering if there is a downloadable manual in pdf form or whatever for FFX squared? Yeah, I know I can read the manual online at http://www.fundamentzero.com/index_games.htm but that's cumbersome.

Thanks

I don't know if this is a decent alternative to what you're looking for, but there is a direct link to the manual in the FFX3 folder when you install the mod, just so you don't have to go through the site every time you wish to take a look at it.

Double-clicking on it should take you directly to the manual, but I'm not sure how those things work on a Mac (never used one).

Thank you, but that's for FFX3 which is for FFVTTR. I'm talking about FFX2 for the original Freedom Force game. Or are the powers and everything the same between the two?

Oh, my bad! For FFX2, I have no idea (I don't think so, though), but if you go to the website, right-click anywhere and select "Save as...", you should be able to get a link to the page on your desktop.

A PDF could be made for the site, but it would take some reformatting, I would think.

It should already be on your computer, under Freedom Force\FFX\Manual.

Yeah, but all that is is a whole bunch of webpage links to the online manual. As I've said.... cumbersome. I'm amazed nobody made a pdf of it.

I think the reason why nobody made the page into a pdf is because nobody's really ever asked, before.

It most certainly is possible to do, however.

yeah, well, it's just silly to me that I have to open up a whole page to see a two sentence explanation of a power, go back, open up another page for another two sentence explanation. Repeat. Repeat. Arduous.

Sorry, UltraSuperGuy, but I didn't have any PDF creating software when I wrote FFX. I'm a pretty basic HTML and Notepad kind of guy.

If you open manual/index.htm in your Freedom Force folder, you're browsing HTML files within that folder. You could do this without an internet connection, but its still HTML, if that's what's bugging you. There's a link called Freedom Force X Manual gets put in your root FF folder, but you'll need to repoint that if you havent installed to C:\Program Files\Irrational Games\Freedom Force

I'm sure there's a programme out there for converting a batch of HTML files like the manual to PDF format. Have you Googled for anything like that?

That probably could be done with Adobe Acrobat, but you still would be left sometimes with two sentences on a page.

Ah right. If there is an automated solution for this, you'd be looking at replacing all page breaks with line breaks or something, once the whole manual was compacted into a single pdf or Word doc or whatever.

I have no idea how to help you there, I'm afraid.
I'm not convinced that would make it more readable or easier to search, though.

It's seemed pretty useable for me.

It may be a bit time consuming, but you could probably go through the Manual, page by page, and copy everything onto a Word Document. At least that way, you could use the "Find" function to search for what you need when you need it.

USG, as Dr.Mike mentioned, you simply need to bookmark the manual/index.htm page. This will give you access to the navigation. (If you were under Windows, you'd have a start menu alias to this.)
