I've been around for a while here on and off but not a big name. Still I have always felt at home here so I'm going to share.
Last month my wife got nausea that just didn't seem to want to go away. She had trouble eating most solid foods but we didn't think it was a big deal. We had lost our insurance due to affordable health care act and had about a two week down time before the new one kicked in. She seemed to improve then it returned so we made an appointment for the next Monday when the insurance kicked in . MY wife being Scottish simply wouldn't go in earlier. On Saturday morning she could neither speak or rise. She died less than 24 hours later of septic shock for a pancreas infection.
We had been married for 30 years and been friends since meeting at the science fiction club in college in 76. The things we didn't both enjoy together could be counted on 1/2 of one hand. We have four wonderful kids, one of which is grown who are all superhero, SF and fantasy geeks.
That is horrible. I'm deeply sorry for your loss.
I am very sorry to hear this Steamteck. My prayers go out to you and your family.
So very sorry for your loss. My condolences to you and your family.
I am truly sorry for you and your families loss and I will say a prayer for you.

I am terribly sorry for your loss, steamteck. :(
I wish you and your children the very best and I hope that you guys will stay strong through this.
I don't have the words to express my sorrow for your loss, Steamteck. My heart breaks for you. The Grey household will keep you and your family in our prayers. We are here for you, as much as we can be.
Thanks everyone. We have come together and her siblings have been very supportive. Truth is, I've lived so long with the world filtered through the reality of the both of us as a unit I feel kind of lost. This is one of my "safe" places to visit though and gives me comfort.
I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. My sincere condolences.
I'm very sorry to hear of your loss. My deepest condolences.
This is terrible news, Steamteck. I am so sorry for your loss. Know that you will always have a place here.

So very true. Its hard to explain but its like she was the filter through which I saw the world. Everything I like has a little of her stamp on it in my mind.
You know, She always loved the skins and meshes you guys came up with and we used them as images and names for our pen and paper superhero game. My older kids want me to keep running the game ( same game world since the early 80s) and run it for them and their friends as well as my older crowd. It reminds me so much of her but I think she would have liked all these characters she helped create often from your wonderful images and names being introduced to a new generation.
There are no words to express the sorrow.
I'm very sorry. You have my deepest condolences.
I'm so sorry to hear that. I can only imagine how devastating this is, and wish you strength and love to get through this.
I'm so very sorry to hear about this horrible news. You have my deepest condolences and my prayers are with you and your family.

What a cool tribute to your wife! I can see how that might be a hard thing to do right now, but I can't think of a better way to keep her memory alive, especially for your kids!
Thanks, I thought so but its sometimes hard to tell about these things. My oldest daughter is really excited about the whole thing. She wants several groups including one where the old and young play together.

If your game is something that brings joy, closeness, and loving remembrance to you and your family, it seems like it is a good thing.
although i dont know you personally my prayers are with you
I am so sorry, Steamteck.
Maintaining those things she enjoyed and that others enjoyed with her is a very positive way to honor her.
BTW, when I was new at FR, we were both posting in a thread in the comics forum about the comeback of some aspects of Silver Age Superman. I remember thinking at the time what a cool place this was and how much fun was to be had discussing superheroes with folks like you.

It really is a cool place to discuss such things. Folks are so much friendlier and positive and tolerant than almost any other forum I've been on. Thanks everyone for your support and prayers.
This game thing is really taken off. Apparently my game has some local fame but has been just for my small circle. Looks like I'll be running ar least three separate games. Everyone who's playing knew and liked her also. I'm actually feeling enthusiastic, which is good for me these days.
I am so sorry for youe loss, steamteck.
I am glad that you are able to take some small comfort during this time here. I took similar solace when my mother passed a few years ago. There are good people here. Again, my deepest sympahthies.
You have my condolences, Steam...I am really sorry to hear about your wife's passing.
Best,
Dana
My sincerest condolences for this huge and shocking loss, Steamteck.
I'm so sorry to hear about this, Steamteck. I don't really know what to say...
I'll keep you and your family in my thoughts.
