Title: Installing onto new laptop
Post by: ghazkul on December 15, 2013, 04:01:31 PM
Hey everyone, I am having trouble installing FFVTTR onto my new laptop. The laptop keeps saying that Attributes.dat is missing from the cd I'm installing from.

Anyone got any suggestions?

Does this happen during installation or after installation when you try and run the game?

I guess the obvious question is: Is attributes.dat on your CD? And, is it readable? (Can you open it in an app like XVI32?) It should be on the CD in the folder K:\program files\Irrational Games\Freedom Force vs The 3rd Reich\Data, where K: is whatever drive letter corresponds to that for your CD drive. If it's not there, it's possible the file is corrupt or there is a physical problem with the CD.

BTW, I am assuming this is the US English version of the retail CD game, not the Digital Jesters version or anything. The location of attributes.dat may be different for different distributions.

For Win 7 and below at least, right click on the shortcut, go to properties and run in winxp compatibility mode. I haven't gotten around to trying Win8 yet so I don't know if it works the same.

To add to what Randomdays said, I believe that either patch 1.2 or 1.3 is required to run on anything higher than Windows XP.
