Title: Yahoo Groups and the Crimes Against Sanity
Post by: BentonGrey on October 08, 2013, 05:20:10 AM
Howdy guys, has anyone else realized how utterly terrible the new format of Yahoo Groups is?  I wish I could personally backhand the people who designed it.  It makes everything you might use a group for about 400% harder, and you can't even order your freaking groups alphabetically anymore in order to browse them.  It took me an hour tonight just to locate a group I needed because I didn't know the exact name.  What's more, ctrl+F won't search the group list.  Ohh my gosh, I've never seen web design this bad.

I will definitely agree, the new format is extremely frustrating at best.  :banghead:

Same here, even moving around in the group is different. The only bright spot I saw (I think) was that the group limit for files went from a total of 100 megs to 2 gigs. Means I won't have to open new groups as I create more meshes.

Yeah, I'm definitely not liking it.

However, I did find one canadian-based yahoo group for Freedom with the old layout :P

I spent a good 30 minutes basking in its radiant glory.

I just found this out, but if you click on manage groups from that yahoo group, you get the old layout back!

Thanks for that link, Spydermann. Give yourself credit for keeping all of us sane. Now, I still have to get back to deleting 600+ spam messages from my group one at a time because we can no longer choose multiple messages. I can't even delete the spammers as Yahoo doesn't give us access to their Yahoo handle anymore, merely the bogus name used on the account. Thanks, Yahoo!

The new yahoo mail is a mess too.  I guess they want to look more like gmail, but it just ain't working.  I use yahoo mail because I'm not too happy about the gmail interface and I prefer the simpler yahoo version...now that's gone.  I may have to actually use my MS live account which I only registered because it's required for a my WP 8 phone.

A couple of weeks back, Yahoo sent me an e-mail asking for feedback on the "new look" of their groups. I did manage to keep it family friendly...

Checking that as of this moment, all the yahoo groups seem to be down.

I'm trying to start a couple of new Yahoo Groups for some stuff (Some for FF, some personal), and keep getting this error:

We're Sorry...
We are unable to complete your request at this time. We are aware of this problem and are working on a resolution. (code -9997)

If you continue to receive this error for more than 48 hours, please contact our Customer Care team. We apologize for this inconvenience.

Is anyone else having this issue? For the personal Groups I created, I haven't noticed any issues besides that original error message, I can still upload and download files, and I haven't started working on the FF related Group yet, but I was just curious if anyone else recieved this error.

I seem to be unable to upload anythign to my groups. I even created a new group, but no dice. The Canadian link gives access to the old layout of the My Groups page, but the links send me to the Neo interface. I've left two message on the Groups Help page telling them, and asked that they return us to a interface that works.

I'm not holding my breath.

Also when they "updated" the look they went through and deleted a lot of older accounts that they deemed "not used enough".  I know this because my account got dumped even though I opened and browsed it every two months or so.  Even worse, when I went to register for a new account (because they made me), they required a phone number from me to start a new account.  So more or less, I'm not using Yahoo or their *censored* (yes, I censored myself) groups from now on.

I tried messing with Yahoo Groups yesterday for various stuff, and  :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:, I was not thrilled.

Yeah, I hate that, DJ!  Why the heck do they need my phone number?  There is no reason for them to have it, and I don't WANT them to have it.

I feel the same way about Facebook and Hotmail.

Yeah, those too, PG.  I hate that they keep freaking asking me too.

Ha, maybe I should start doing that Epimethee!

I'm sorry to reveive an old thread, but I wanted to post this in case anyone else was having issues with links to Yahoo Groups not working.

I have found over the last week or so that when clicking on a link for a Yahoo Group, that I either get a "This page can't be displayed" (Explorer) or "ERROR - Description: Could not process this "GET" request" (Firefox) error. It looks like Yahoo has changed the address format for their groups.

It used to be this (using my group as an example):
http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/hoss20/

Now it is this:
https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/hoss20/info

The main difference is that the word "games" is no longer present in the address. The neo, info, or even the "s" after https or groups isn't necessary, as you will be redirected to the current address, but it is having "games" to start the address that is causing the problem. Just an FYI if necessary.

Is anyone else having issues with Yahoo? Not just with Yahoo Groups, but with Yahoo in general? I keep getting booted out, am I the only one?

Not here. Homepage works. Groups are up. Mail works and is still filled with several thousand indecent spam links from groups. Probably something you need to configure with your browser, like the cookies. Other peeps here are a bit more versed on how to fix all that than me though.

With as many issues as I've had with Yahoo Groups, this is actually a bit different. I had logged in, went to Yahoo Messenger, started typing to talk to someone, and when I tried to send the message, I got kicked off with an error message stating that I wasn't logged in. Tried this a few times, each with the same result. Same goes for checking my E-Mail, after I log in, I try to open my Mail, and I get kicked out with the error message telling me that I'm not logged in. I only seem to be having issues with Yahoo, all my other accounts seem fine. I'll go ahead and clear my Cache/History, and see if I have any luck. Thanks SA.
