Title: Shacking up!
Post by: thalaw2 on October 01, 2013, 11:52:36 PM
So I finally shacked up with the girlfriend after 2 years of being together.  I knew there would be challenges, but geesh!  Those three letters that come once a month are killing me.  How am I supposed to know that any type of chocolate would substitute for a favorite brand of chocolate that's only sold in a city a few hundred miles away?  In an argument...I supposed to keep arguing?!?!?!    :doh:How do people stay married for years?

It's called "Admitting Defeat", the guy is always wrong, the woman is always right.

And in the event that the the opposite occurs, the woman is still always right.

That's kept me and the Missus together for 18 years.

That's what I thought i did...admit defeat by not arguing further.  But instead I should have found a way to convince her that I was right/telling the truth.  I had a depressed buddy.  I went to his house had a few beers and he told me a mutual friend jumped off out a 5 story window and ended up in critical condition.  This was pretty sad because the guy has a wife and 2 kids and always seemed happy.  I got home 30 minutes later than i said I would so naturally I didn't really go to my friend's house.  Instead I was off with some other woman (her argument).  I can't call my friend to prove I was there, because he's my friend.  Eefff me!

Even if I had been with another woman I don't think i would need 3 hours.  I pride myself on my  'skills', but 3 hours is well beyond my limits.  Heck!  I would have been back very very early if that was the case.

Too much info there Law...we don't need to know you're a 60 second man...:P

Course my advice to you would be to grab some Haggendaus yogurt and shove it down her pie hole every time she started doing this but you probably shouldn't listen to my advice on women...I date the crazy ones and well, we all know my advice sucks anyways.

You've made a terrible mistake.

Now enjoy it.

Actually, if she is that insecure about your relationship, you probably need to do some work on making sure she knows how you feel.

Just a warning: my ex-wife had (has?) similar insecurities, and she is considering divorcing husband #3.

Well, my favorite character in FR was always Minute Man.  LOL!  I dated crazy once and I'm never going back to that...never!

It turns out she was just drunk and suffering from the 3 letters.  We had a big bash for her sister's birthday and her brother's 1 year wedding anniversary all in the same evening.  Plenty of beer and wine to go around for the 6 of us.  I didn't realize how much she had.  Anyway, several apologies later and me nursing her hangover has led things back to being normal.  Lucky for her I'm a patient man, who has FR to air out on.

Thanks for the advice DB.  We've moved in together to see if we do have any long term possibilities and so far its been great except for that one incident.  This is just week one though.....

As long as your favorite character isn't The Ant. I seem to recall that his relationship with an insecure woman took a bad turn at some point

PMS and drunk amplify feelings and insecurities, but they don't "create" them.  I would suggest those feelings are present and those conditions lowered her filter.  But at this early stage I'm going to hope that they're due to just moving in together - big changes always create stress.  And moving in together is usually a HUGE step in a relationship, so it's not really surprising that it brought up a few insecurities.

I would also point out that there is a condition related to PMS called premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD), which is kind of like the King Kong of PMS.  PMS is subtle enough that we can still have fairly vigorous debates about whether it exists at all, but PMDD really messes women up.  PMS makes women cranky, PMDD is dishes flying, tears flowing - extremem distress.  If this month repeats itself over the next several months advise her to contact her doctor about PMDD.  There's medication that can really help.

Big thanks UY.  I'll be watching closely for the next month.  Right now everything is cool....because it's over (the PMS is over).

Okay, it's just sad that you're willing to step up and say you're a Minute Man...come on, maybe if you upped your game your woman wouldn't be so PMS/angry...get what I'm saying....*nudge nudge wink wink*

After a few sessions of making up things are back to normal for now.  We're ready to take the next step...getting a cat.

Wait...doesn't your woman already have a cat or did you go and date one of those cat-less "women"?   :P

LOL!  Of course I'm referring the 4 legged cat.  When you move in together you gotta have a mutual interest.  I like dogs but I think our apartment is too small for the type of dog I like and she likes lap dogs...I hate lap dogs.  So we've settled on a cat.
