Hello, visitor! If you're looking for Batman, Incorporated heroes and villains to put in FFVTR, this is the place to go!

Spoiler
Who the Hell are You?

I have a better-sounding name in real life (I hope), but 'round these parts I go by vorelliwiseau. I discovered this community and have enjoyed it ever since. This whole thing is a new hobby for me.

What the Hell is Batman, Incorporated?

Batman, Inc. was Bruce Wayne's plan to spread Batman's influence around the world.

Recruiting an army of old and new vigilantes from different countries, Batman created a strong international crimefighting network...and prepared to face a globally-spanning war that would prove to be one of the most devastating in the Dark Knight's career.

Devastating because, uh, another Robin died. Long story. Long and confusing.

What's all this Booster Pack Bullcrap?

Like those old trading card packs, boosters contain a few meshes from an entire set of Batman, Incorporated characters.
Every booster focuses on a specific country that appeared in Batman, Incorporated. I'm loosely following Batman's recruitment trail, so it's Japan, Argentina, Paris, London, Africa, etc. Stay tuned for updates!

What the Hell Am I Downloading?

Every pack comes with three characters from a country that appeared in Batman, Incorporated. It feels weird having just a hero to play with, so I've added a villain or a mook for them to spar with in the Rumble Room!

Just unrar the zip files and paste them wherever your custom characters are stored, and they'll be good to go!

I've checked my downloads and found out who made the Redbird mesh! It's from the amazing MartialStorm, maker of quality Doctor Who meshes:

As for the Heretic, I might try fooling around with a mesh of him. Anybody know of good muscular male meshes compatible with Blender?

I did a Wingman, but it is a more-or-less silver age version, and may not be what you want.

@Amazo: Thanks! I checked out Tomato's meshes, and he has indeed allowed public use+edit. I'm starting work on Heretic's basic armor right now.

@daglob: Searched through your Character Obscura groups - damn, that's quite a collection! Aside from Wingman, I also checked out your Bat-villain henchmen folder. Hope you don't mind.

I would also send Grenadier a PM, he allows Nifskoping of his meshes, so he "MIGHT" allow for Blender usage as well. But be forewarned, he is not on the boards very often, so don't be offended if he doesn't get tight back to you.

And definitely, welcome to the community.   :D

Thanks for the tips, Cyber Burn! Glad to be here. I had no idea how massively customizable Freedom Force was until a few weeks back.

Anyway, I just finished a draft of my basic Heretic mesh, based on this image and others:

http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h308/mdg1024/SD/batman_053.jpg

I've read the rules on release permissions, but what are the rules on releasing preview images I've print-screened from CTool?

I think it's pretty much the same, if you've skoped anything that uses parts from someone who doesn't want their stuff used in Nifskope (Or Blender), then I wouldn't post pics of it.

Comments:

- I chose Male_Stocky because he seemed the tallest of the TM meshes.

- The Heretic easily towers over Batman and Nightwing, so I plan on making him a bit taller and bulkier. Here's an image for height comparison: http://bit.ly/18dAJCX

- I'll take a shot at it once I figure out why my Blender install's been on the fritz. For some reason after successfully exporting once it refuses to import anymore. Does anyone have thoughts on that?

- Anyone know of some compatible keyframes for Male_Stocky? If it helps, Heretic seems like a close-range, brawler type dude.

If anyone has some neat improvement tips on hand (skinning, meshing, sourcing), I'd greatly appreciate it.
Thanks for looking in!

Thanks, Podmark! Once I find a release-able keyframe for Male_Stocky, I'll put up the whole thing up on Dropbox.

Meanwhile, I'll be doing research into adding that sweet golden utility belt around Heretic's waist.

If I remember correctly, Tomatoes meshes all all accept _basic keyframes.  So any male_basic set will work.  There are some good ones for fighter types by a variety of meshers.  I think Mr. Mato designed his meshes to easily be skoped onto others, so if your skope-fu is working you could make him use virtually anything.

@Cyber_Burn: I took your advice and PM'd Grenadier to try and request permission for his Fighter keyframe. It seems like a long shot, but I checked the keyframe using CTool and they seem like a nice match. Thanks for the recommendations, guys!

er... guy? you don't need to contact gren about releasing the keyframes. On the one hand, it's perfectly acceptable to release keyframes with meshes unaltered (so long as credit is given) regardless of who made them, and gren has long since given permission for nifskoping his work if you need to make any alterations.

To be honest, I would rather see someone be a bit overzealous in regards to getting permissions, than to see someone who doesn't care.

I would agree with that Cyber, but there's no telling when or if Grenadier will ever get back to him about it. The whole reason the nifskope permission list exists in the first place is so people can just look at it and not HAVE to ask the individual mesher every single time.

If any mesher to have done work for FF (myself, Gren, or anyone else) doesn't like how something's being used, we have the right to ask that the specific work be removed. The permission list is just so Podmark doesn't have to PM me every time he wants to use my Teen_TM mesh for another one of his New X-men skopes.

Okay, I'll think about including the keyframes if and when I release my next revisions. If I do I'll just edit the readme to credit Gren.

@Starman: Still working on the resizing thing. I'll make sure to let you know!

=====

Speaking of which, since my Blender software and I are still locked in an eternal struggle to get it to import/export .nifs properly, I decided to look into other methods of resizing.

I've learned that if you put mismatched keyframes in a mesh, if you're lucky enough the KF will 'force' the mesh into a resized, yet still working character. So I checked out Sukhov's default KF from Irrational Games, since I remembered he was one of FF's taller characters.

Something...ungodly happened:

Source: Irrational Games Default Meshes (http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/Irrationalmeshes2/)

Gah!

But I ran him through the Rumble Room and I liked the noticeable height change. I'd use the keyframe, except he's got limited animations and his single melee animation doesn't exactly fit The Heretic.

But now I've got a desired height goal on hand to work toward, so, still good news!

What do you guys think? Any nifty resizing tips/tricks?

Oh, man, it worked! I can't believe I missed that tutorial. Probably because I got scared of messing up in NifSkope's file structures and kept searching for Blender-oriented guides. You are a lifesaver, Tomato.

=====

With that in mind, I've uploaded the latest, resized version (v1.1) with keyframes, so it's playable out of the box. All credit to the keyframe goes to Grenadier!

I've knocked the size issue down, so I'll be moving onto adding a belt next. I've fiddled with Nifskope+Blender and, some pink-skin issues aside, successfully rigged a belt to the mesh.

Next revision might take a while, though, 'cause I'll be studying Nifskope and, well, studies for a bit.

In the meantime, please enjoy the reasonably taller Heretic!

Thanks, Amazo! I've been studying how to make individual mesh pieces (particularly shoulder plates) and, man, it hasn't been easy. UV seams, unwrapping, material properties...it's been tiring, but entertaining. Can't believe you guys mastered all this.

Anyway, I think I'm almost done with the Heretic and will be posting updated pics soon, but I have a question for the experienced Nifskope users: does embedding a texture on nifskope remove the need to include the .tga/.dds file?

I think that would most likely be a question for the meshers of the community (Tomato, Bearded), if I correctly understand what you want, I don't know if that effect can be done in Nifskope.

Well,  I encountered it when I was trying to connect mesh pieces to a larger mesh. When I just copy/paste the branch, the texture never shows up. But when I click on embed after selecting the image, it sticks to the mesh piece even if I copy it into a different .nif file.

Here's a screencap of the 'embed' thing (Below the Choose button):

I was wondering whether if I released the skope - with the mesh pieces with 'embedded' textures - would you guys be able to see the texture, or would the texture path continue to refer to my computer's directory path?

That's pretty interesting, after you embed the textures into the mesh, if you remove the (.TGA) or (.DDS) files from the standard skins folder, can you still see the textures in Nifskope? How about character tool? Also, does this allow you to have other skins for the mesh? Sorry for all the questions, but like I said, this is very interesting.
Title: Re: Batman, Incorporated: The Heretic and Other Meshes (Updated 9.21)
Post by: vorelliwiseau on September 21, 2013, 03:11:39 AM
That's the thing - I don't even have the shoulder pad texture in the directory where I assume ctool2 checks it, and yet it still appears in-game. It's renderable in Nifskope, CTool and FFX 3.0, and I can change the male_basic skin, but so far I haven't figured out how to change the skin on the shoulder pad I 'embedded' with the texture.

I'm not sure though, but since Podmark gave the greenlight to use his belt mesh, I've uploaded the kinda-sorta final version of it here.

It should play out something like this:

Spoiler
(http://i920.photobucket.com/albums/ad47/vorelliwiseau/prev_12_zps7e2a4eeb.png)

(Utility belt from Batman_skope by Podmark. Thanks!)

Please tell me if you can see the skins on the belt, the edited belt buckle and the shoulder pads! I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Hi! Since it seems The Heretic is working right, I've decided to take on the rest of the Batman, Incorporated characters.
First stop: Japan!

So does anyone know where I can find these mesh pieces:

1) A front pant sash thing that swings
2) Some kind of waist length collared cape/poncho
3) A baseball bat piece/ baseball bat keyframe.

1 and 2 are pictured here:

For #1.) I would look at either Grenadier's "Taskmaster" variants, or one of Tommyboy's meshes.

For #2.) I would need a better pic (Sorry), but maybe  the top piece from Ink's "Mastermind" mesh could be modified for your needs.

For #3.) Tommyboy has a Male_Heavy_Bat mesh based off of Irrational's "Thug2" mesh, Grenadier has an "Ammo" mesh which has a baseball bat, and I believe that Texas_Jack has a mesh with a baseball bat, though I can't remember the name off of the top of my head.

All that being said, I am really impressed with the work that you've done so far, the shoulder pads that you meshed look really good. Very nice job on the Heretic (Though I have  to admit that I'm not familiar with him).

You're right - 1 and 2 were decent sources, and that Mastermind mesh works great: just needs some editing. I haven't gotten around to checking #3, though.

I'll have some decent preview pics next post. This is really helpful legwork. Thanks!

Lord Death Man's Goon

Mesh:  Ammo_Gren created by Grenadier - The actual Mesh is by Grenadier, the standard skin was by (I Believe) Courtnall6, so you shouldn't need to mention Courtnall6 in regards to the mesh, however, I would also mention Irrational in the credits because this mesh was based off of Irrational's "Thug1" and "Thug2" Meshes.
Skin:  Base Skin from Male_Stocky_TM, by the The Firey Tomato
Keyframe: Ammo_Gren created by Grenadier - Again, I would give credit to Irrational because Grenadier used their animation sets in making this mesh. Also, since Courtnall6 had nothing to do with the actual creation of the mesh or keframes, you shouldn't need to mention him for those.
Character Concept: Grant Morrison, Yanick Paquette.  Skin cobbled together from various page art by Yanick Paquette

Lord Death Man

Mesh:  male_basic_gunthug created by Grenadier and tommyboy - I would also include Irrational in the credits because Tommyboy based this off of their "Thug1" mesh.
Skin:  Base Skin from Male_Stocky_TM, by the The Firey Tomato
Keyframe: male_basic_gunthug created by Grenadier and tommyboy - I would also include Irrational in the credits because again, Tommyboy based this off of their "Thug1" mesh.
Character Concept: Grant Morrison, Yanick Paquette.  Skin cobbled together from various page art by Yanick Paquette

======================

I'll upload some links once I get the sources right. See, I used the male_basic_gunthug  made by tommyboy to make Lord Death Man, but I'm worried about this line, from tommyboy's amended rules in the Nifskope permissions list:

Quote"1. You may use my existing body of work to create original 'skopes PROVIDED that said 'skopes are not labeled as some other mesher's creation."

So if I rename the folder to say something "Lord_Deathman_v1" instead of "male_basic_gunthug,"will I be in trouble? What does that line mean?
Please tell me if I got some of the credits wrong. Thanks!
- Now that I'm a bit more awake, I apologize for giving inaccurate information last night. I was looking at the Goon, rather than Lord_Deathman himself. Since it appears that you did modify the "Male_Basic_Gunthug" Mesh, it is alright to rename it. Naming it "Lord_Deathman_v1" is fine and does not go against Tommyboy's rules in regards to the naming convention.

Quote"1. You may use my existing body of work to create original 'skopes PROVIDED that said 'skopes are not labeled as some other mesher's creation."
- Essentially, this means that he doesn't want people making skopes and then renaming the new skopes using any specific mesher's label ( Such as Renegade = Ren, Grenadier = Gren, Tomato - TM, Bobby69 = 69, Vertex = VX, or even Tommyboy = T or TV or Tvlite or TF). So basically, if you had named your "Lord_Deathman" skope "Lord_Deathman_T", or "Lord_Deathman_Gren", then you would have violated Tommyboy's rules in regards to the naming convention.

I'm kind of popped up on painkillers right now, so if anything I said doesn't make sense, let me know and I will make whatever changes are needed. I will suggest that as far as credits go , maybe check out the credits written by other content creators to get some ideas on formatting the credits file (Usually called a "Read_Me" file).

All that being said, you have some very nice work being shown here. Have you considered setting up a Yahoo Group or a website?

EDIT: I apologize for giving you misinformation last night, but now that I'm more awake and coherent, I think I fixed everything. Again, I am very sorry for providing misinformation last night, but everything should be fixed.

Thank you  so much for taking the time to pitch in!  I'd like to make sure everyone who deserves credit gets it. Maybe I'll make a YG after a few more characters or so.

Anyway, I've changed the credits below (added credits for Ink and AfghanAnt's Mastermind mesh, for the modified Lord Death Man's cloak), so once you think it's good, I'll put up the DL links.

Much appreciated, you two! Sorry it took so long to reply, but I figured the best way I could say thanks to you (and to everyone who's popped in for the past week) would be to release The Batman, Incorporated Japan 3-Pack.

And so I have! If anyone's interested, I've put up the DL links in my original post. If there's any problems or comments, please don't hesitate to PM me. Thanks for waiting!

Hey, guys, what's the editing permission status for Ultimate Evil's and Syn/Unfluffybunny's skins and meshes? I found the biker jacket/pants combo on their red_hood_syn mesh perfect for El Gaucho, but I might have to add some stripes and buttons and such, which is why I'm double-checking for permission.

I'd also like to ask the same of Ink's Professor_X_Classic [the one with the wheely wheelchair.]

I wanted to put this up before I bother them with a PM or something. I'd appreciate the help. Thanks!
Title: Re: Batman, Incorporated: The Heretic and Other Meshes (Updated 9.30)
Post by: Cyber Burn on October 02, 2013, 01:21:15 PM
In regards to the meshes (The 3D Models), both Ink and Unfluffy/Syn have given permissions for their meshes to be altered in NIFSKOPE ONLY, no Blender permissions have been given.

In regards to the skin files (The TGA or DDS files), that is up to the specific skinner who made those texture files. If you are looking to modify the existing texture files, I would definitely recommend sending a PM to who ever created the skins for those meshes.

In cases like this, some skinners might give permission, others won't, from my observation, it's usually on a case by case basis. Good Luck.

@CyberBurn, RE:Red Hood:
Aw, man, that's one lead off my list. Still, it helps knowing the score. I think I can just Blender up some sleeves and pant legs to a different mesh.

As for the wheelchair, I suppose I can just export a fresh UV template in Nifskope and work from there, right? It'll take time, but I think it's worth not violating any permissions, I guess. Thanks for the assist!

@Starman:
Glad you like it! It'll be several days before I finish the next 3-pack [some exams coming up, plus this neat side-project I'm working on for Randomdays], but if you've read Batman, Inc., I guess you might have a decent idea who's gonna be in it. Hope the waiting will be worth it!

Hi! Almost done with Argentina, but I'd like to ask help on tracking some pieces:

Spoiler
1. A bola for El Gaucho's waist, like Wonder Woman's golden lasso:

2. A super-shiny, female suit with matching arm-length gloves and boots
I figured a shiny Emma Frost or Wonder Woman mesh could do the trick, if I could find one.

3: A motorcycle helmet with some kind of transparent window:
- I searched around and it seems Eson the Searcher seems like a good start, and I remember seeing his mesh somewhere, but I can't remember which site or which Yahoo! Group.

4. An editable scorpion tail
- I guess I could Blender one up, but if there's a built-in one out there, I'd appreciate the lead!

5. Some kind of female capoeira mesh
- Or maybe a keyframe with lots of melee kicks! I have Gren's female Fighter mesh for a standard [and a fantastic one at that], but I'm curious if there's any capoeira-specific keyframes floating around.

Here are some basis pics for #'s 2-5:

Anyone know of some editable versions of these? I'd appreciate the help. Thanks!

Hi! Almost done with Argentina, but I'd like to ask help on tracking some pieces:

1. A bola for El Gaucho's waist, like Wonder Woman's golden lasso:

You could probably use a Lasso from one of the Wonder Woman meshes and then just plop a couple of spheres down for the red jimmies.

2. A super-shiny, female suit with matching arm-length gloves and boots
I figured a shiny Emma Frost or Wonder Woman mesh could do the trick, if I could find one.

I'm in agreement. It seems that the effect that you want might be achievable and could be done through skinning.

3: A motorcycle helmet with some kind of transparent window:
- I searched around and it seems Eson the Searcher seems like a good start, and I remember seeing his mesh somewhere, but I can't remember which site or which Yahoo! Group.

"Eson the Searcher" is a Grenadier mesh, and unfortunately I can't think of the location for you right now.

For a helmet, I would suggest either Valandar's "Harley_Davidson_Rider" mesh or Podmark's "Hazmat" skope.

Valandar's mesh: http://web.archive.org/web/20060113151400/http://newpowerinc.com/meshsecpages/eldar.htm

Podmark's skope: http://heroforce.freedomforceforever.com/podmark.html

4. An editable scorpion tail
- I guess I could Blender one up, but if there's a built-in one out there, I'd appreciate the lead!

Marvel Comics' Villain "Scorpion" Mesh by The_Beyonder: http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/Beyondermeshes1/ - Titled "Male_Scorpion"

Marvel Comics' Villain "Scorpion" Mesh by Tommyboy: http://tommyboymeshes.freedomforceforever.com/Marvel%20meshes%20S2.html - Titled "Scorpion_Tvlite"

Marvel Comics' Villain "Scorpion" Skope by Johnny Patches: No longer available online, but I could e-mail it to you - Titled "Scorpion_Tail_New"

5. Some kind of female capoeira mesh
- Or maybe a keyframe with lots of melee kicks! I have Gren's female Fighter mesh for a standard [and a fantastic one at that], but I'm curious if there's any capoeira-specific keyframes floating around.

@Amazo: Thanks for the hat-tip for Scorpiana - she was really a tricky piece of work, especially her helmet! I had to do some digging to figure out how to make the helmet transparent without using Blender. If anyone wants a link, I'll be happy to point it to you.

To answer your question, I've been using Blender/Nifskope for about two, two and a half months now, but I'm sorry to say I haven't done any other game content. This is my first serious modding project, see.

@Benton: I'm flattered, man! Someday I hope to make really clean, quality skins - most of my skin work looks a little rough on closer inspection. I bet there are some good tutorials out there, though.

@Podmark: Yeah, I fell in love with the comic book because I thought the concept was kickass - an army of Batmen! I hope to do more New 52 skins in the near future.
There's this group called the Court of Owls, see...

@Cyber: Thank you for the research work! I probably would have spent more hours without someone pointing me to good mesh/skin leads.

Usually barebones refers to a stripped-down or vanilla version of something; a basic template of sorts.

He's probably asking for the original, unmodified version of the mesh.

DISCLAIMER: This promotion is intended purely as a work of "fan art" and in no way is intended to compromise or otherwise infringe upon the copyrights held by the owners of the character. Batman created by Bob Kane and Bill Finger. All Batman and DC Universe characters and merchandise are property of Warner Brothers, DC Comics, or their subsidiaries and licensors.

It comes with Nightrunner (A Nightwing+Batman hybrid), Korrigan (a Poison Ivy-brawler), and The Son of Man (Paris' art-obsessed answer to the Joker).

I modified Korrigan's duds a bit to not make her look too much like sexy Ronald McDonald, (and for her and Son of Man not to look like Bizarro Steed and Mrs. Peel), but one can only do so much.

The upcoming stop on the Batman Inc., world tour is a two-part engagement, a personal favorite of mine. It was hell deciding to split this one up, but you know, learn to pace oneself and all that.

Anyway, next stop on the recruitment trail: England!

I am just in love with your Promotional Posters, vorelli.

They are just so neat and they get me excited as much as your actual meshes/skopes do.

Once again, great work on the French characters :) are there any plans to do Le Bossu and, um, the killer mime guy?

Looking forward to your take on Knight & Squire too!

Thanks, you guys! Always a pleasure to whip up some old Bat-characters. Glad you like the poster, too!

@Starman: I've always wanted to do the mime dude! He, Le Bossu and The Musketeer are gonna have to go together, I guess. The Club of Villains is something I'd really like to tackle.

These are just fantastic man!
I was wondering though,  why doesn't nightrunner use that great gun you sculpted?
Also,  Son Of Man is freaky! i might have to read more about him!

Thanks for spotting the grapnel, detourne_me!

I wanted to do like a Spidey web-pull for that, but I haven't really progressed to the point where I can rig a mesh for such a move. I understand it has something to do with shrinking the weapon. Maybe when I finish the first half and go 'round for improvements I'll animate the gun.

As for Son of Man, yeah, his whole shtick's totally about the absurd! Not much to read about him, though. I just wanted to see how much I could pull off with a Joker-style skope. Hope you like it!

Hmmm, Gren's Batman mesh has a "Yank and Pull" animation, or something to that effect, I wonder if something could be done with that?

I really like the stuff you've been putting out, V.

That Batman Inc. comicbook cover looks great! Nightrunner and Korrigan are very cool looking, but I'm really mesmerized by Son of Man. He looks awesome.

Thanks, LP! It's been a blast skoping the Batman Inc. villains. Their mesh pieces are fun to work with!

@Cyber - I think I have Gren's Batman mesh - Once I finish the first half [the pre-reboot characters and all that] I might swing around for some character improvements.

Also, I've been Rumble Room-ing Batman, Inc. (Mr Unknown, Gaucho, Nightrunner, other Bat-personnel) versus the villains, and the Dark Knight's so-called "army" has yet to win a single match.

Maybe because I set El Sombrero to blow his wheelchair up sky-high once he gets kayoed, and his reaction to every external stimulus is grenade but holy crap, maybe I'm biased!

=======

On another note, has anyone done a:

1. rotund_trenchcoat, or something of the sort? I brute-forced Ewzzy's trenchcoat_versatile into a male_belt_staff keyframe set and it's working dandy, but I'm just curious.

2. female mesh with a slingshot? I was messing with the positioning of Eve's bows and I think I might have something there, but I was wondering if there were any specialized characters. I searched the megalist and frworld for Carrie Kelly, so if anyone has leads, I'd appreciate it!

I was also looking at Grenadier's "Crossfire_Gren" mesh since it has the pistol on the back of his belt.

As for your other two requests, I don't believe the first has been done, but I thought I had seen a Carrie Kelly somewhere (Minus the slingshot though).

Yeah, I sorta kinda also remember a Carrie Kelley somewhere...I'll start with Atomic Robot's skins and track something down from there.

As for the slingshot, I guess I could whip up something in Blender. Thanks for the help!

No Cyril Sheldrake this month. Really, really, sorry I had to cut Knight for this set!

Those with rotten fruit to throw at me, please step to the line on the right. Those with tin cans, glass bottles and other non-biodegradable objects, the end of the line is outside the hall. Heh, heh.

Anyway, sorry again - I wanted to stick to the 3-piece loadout! Pace yourself, and whatnot.

Anyway, I finished this pack early and am working on Knight right now, so please expect Squire's buddy to pop up sometime mid-December!

===============================

With that in mind, anybody know where Grenadier's original Batman_Gren is located? I thought I had it, but it turned out it was Podmark's Batmen [Wayne and super-sweet Grayson] that I had.

The megalist pointed me to Grenadiermeshes14, but it's gone - I'm scared Grenadier might have taken it down already. Does he have a site archived around? Thanks!

@Podmark: Always nice to see a fellow Squire fan! Hang on a bit, Knight'll be knocking bad guy noggins beside her soon enough.

No Batman, Incorporated next month. Sorry!

Instead, I'll be doing another Bat-themed project for January, and it'll probably be the start of a new ongoing set. Podmark, if you're out there, this is the thing I asked permission for!

Batman, Inc. will be back February, hopefully alongside a new monthly skope series. Next stop on the Batman, Inc. world tour: Africa!
