I just read that his costume is a kryptonian battlesuit that apparently is made of nanites. When he wants to "deploy" the suit, the nanites spread over him like billions of ants and then link together forming the suit. Is this accurate?
That's how it's worked in the comics I've read.

...I have to admit, that is actually pretty cool.
I've always liked the charm of the story that has his mother make his costume. ;)

And the phone booth, that was pretty classic too.

That's prolly my least favourite take on it. I prefer when the suit is of alien origin.
While i think the new 52 is a decent design (too much armor looking for Superman type character though), i prefer the MoS suit and the origin of it.

I'm a fan of that origin too. Here you have this big strong guy and his mother still picks out his clothes for him. It's touching.
Nostalgia aside, it beats the classic explanations for Superman's costume and why it doesn't get shredded on a daily basis...
1. Super-durable Kryptonian fabric that Ma Kent somehow managed to push a needle through.
2. Normal cloth that's protected by Superman's bioelectric field.
And of course the presto costume changes are probably better than a phonebooth.
Still, a couple of glaring issues here that I don't understand... maybe someone who's read it can help me...
1. Where did Superman get the battlesuit? I'm kind of assuming that it didn't get packed up in the spacecraft that brought him to Earth?
2. Where do the nanites go when they aren't a battlesuit? There are obviously enough of them to cover his body and, I assume, enough left over to form a cape. Do they reform to look like his regular clothes? Do they form into really thick underwear? Do they make him look fat? Do they hide in body crevases and body cavities (ewww...)?
LOL!...BB, that was just too funny.
