Post by: Sioux City Dynamo on June 11, 2013, 03:58:20 AM
Hi everyone,

Would any of you have Alex's Hero Tool working in Window's 8?  I can not seem to get it to work....

Any assistance would be most appreciated.

Respectfully,

I've been away for a looooong time.
I too am using windows 8. To be fair I only just installed  :ffvstr: onto my new laptop and so far it's running ok.
I have Hero tool installed and it's working, but it took me awhile to remember how to use the thing (or anything FF related, lol)
What problems are you having with it?

Hi Shazam,

My issue is with Alex's Ez Hero v3.3.  When I try to launch it is telling me, "component 'COMDLG32.OCX' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered:  a file is missing or invalid.

Respectfully,

As far as I'm aware, you can download that online.  I had to do that to get it to work on my laptop.

I've pretty much given up on playing FF with windows 8. It's a sad day.
For some reason FFX control centre just won't work.

that is all you need to get alex's hero tool to work. just install that and then run under compatability mode.  Are you having problems with that or with FF?

the FFXControl centre hasn't been working for a while,  I can't do any power swaps or nything.
Also, last night,  EZNifConvert stopped working,  I think it's cause I updated to Win 8.1.... other programs are messing up too (can't even play bioshock infinite without a lockup)

Oh sorry, i should mention,  FFvTTr is working fine,  it's just some of the mod add-ons that poeople have made that im having trouble with.

I'm on 8 and all of those things work, but I haven't actually played FFvTTR. Just started it up to the menu. The other two work fine for sure. Otherwise I wouldn't have all those fancy skins I make.

On the latest update of win 8.1, the steam version of Ffvttr is unplayable.  E menu loads up.  And so does the character screen,  but a rumble room session requires a reboot... It freezes so badly on my system...

I'm still on 32 bit Win7, but one thing I've been looking at is trying to set up a dual boot. From what I've read on the net, it might be possible to take a SD card, in my case probably a 32 gig one, put it in a SD to USB adapter, format it and install WinXP on it.

If it worked as advertised, I could change the bootup sequence in Bios to pick the SD card over the harddrive and have the computer come up in XP. For normal boot, just change it back it or remove the USB connector and it boots as normal.

32 gig should be enough for the OS, FF and a few other old favorite games to be installed on it I think.

Untested but something to think about and try.

Hi Shazam,

My issue is with Alex's Ez Hero v3.3.  When I try to launch it is telling me, "component 'COMDLG32.OCX' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered:  a file is missing or invalid.

Respectfully,

Ok, I got my new PC, it's running Windows 8.1, and I'm installing all my FF/FFvt3R related stuff. So far, the only issue that I'm having is with Alex's EZ Hero v3.3.

I am receiving the same error that SCD was getting. I found and downloaded the 'COMDLG32.OCX' file and placed it into my "Windows/System32" file, but I'm still receiving the same error message.

This is the Website that I found for info on this: http://windowsxp.mvps.org/comdlg32.htm

But Windows 8.1 doesn't seem to have the "Start" Menu. Does anyone know how I should proceed from here?

Any advice would very much be appreciated, thank you.

Excellent, I think I have most of my FF stuff installed now. Now I just have to get my files from my old PC to this one, and I can get back to work.  :D
